The ratings were not that great I admit, but for Friday night, they did increase Lifetime's ratings by 50% and improved in the young 25-54 demographic. It was a nice fill-in for those nights How do you go from a 20-episode in season extension to cancelled? Unbelievable.

I want to start a petition but not sure how to go about and who to appeal to. A regular petition site. That government petition site where there's a reply from the White House if it gets enough signatures? And who are we demanding put it back? Lifetime? Back on Fox since they own the rights? This show NEEDS to stay on the air. Any ideas would help greatly.

There has GOT to be a network out there somewhere that's even better suited for AMW than Lifetime that'll strike a deal with Walsh's crew. I read the article, which seems to assert that AMW is "down but not out". It's a travesty that there've been no broadcasts since October, but there's always next academic year.

What I don't get is AMW's EIC posted pics on his Facebook in the past few months that seemed to hint towards filming segments for AMW. There was even one where a girl was holding the AMW logo. (It must have been for JWI unfortunately)
And I will say despite liking the production quality better than the last few years on Fox and reruns leading to increased captures, I always found Lifetime to be an odd fit. Yes they did air Unsolved Mysteries, but that was an odd fit too.
But even if AMW finds a new network, I am still pissed. AMW has to continue to claw and scratch to fight to stay on the air, and I worry about when John Walsh gets too old to do this, who will continue the fight? Who knows if they get a new host and they try to cancel AMW again, if that same host would have the passion to fight just like Mr. Walsh did to get it back? I don't care if AMW finds a new network, I'm tired of them HAVING to.
When I'm an old man with a cane, I hope this show can still be on the air. I hope they finally find a network that gets it and it stays on the air for a long time to come. When I'm 85 (God willing), I hope to see Walsh';s son or grandkid or someone just as passionate as Walsh Sr. hosting. I have a bit busy a weekend planned but I do plan on looking into petitions such as the one zekcat posted for next week.

I'm also concerned they said "whether to shop AMW elsewhere or not". It doesn't seem like they've ultimately decided to try, even though John Walsh made a statement when AMW went to Lifetime that he was going to try to make sure AMW stayed on the air for good this time. I hope he lives up to that promise.

So I have a question in regards to my planned petition/s. Do you guys think maybe it's best to see if AMW finds a home on a more suitable network first or "strike whike the iron is hot." The irony is I can see this petition becoming successful and AMW goes back to Lifetime when perhaps they coukd have went to an even better fit. Do we really want AMW back on a network that cancelled it? Every year we'll have to play the same guessing game again because lifetime takes forever even when their shows aren't cancelled.
Still the old saying goes the devil you know is the better than the devil you don't know and AMW has experienced capture and I don't care how it's spinned, "ratings" success on lifetime (by Friday night standards at the very least).
Should I wait to see if AMW can find a new home first or is time of the essence? Remember, we'll be petitioning to get it back on the very same networm that cancelled it.

So here's at least a reason to be optimistic, Unsolved Mysteries which was somewhat similar to AMW, has gone through the same kind of vagabond network transfers in the later years. It went from NBC to CBS to Lifetime and after a long hiatus returned six years later on Spike TV. I hope AMW doesn't have to wait that long, but wouldn't it be crazy if it as well wound up on Spike TV? I hope unlike UM, AMW finds a permanent home. We need the new network to run it for at least as long as Fox did. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unsolved_Mysteries#Lifetime_.282001.E2.80.932002.29

When I first saw this I was like "kingroman was actually right about something, lol". Anyway, I have to wonder if the reenactment-heavy format of AMW was too costly for Lifetime and wasn't overly appealing to it's viewer demographic. The articles about AMW's cancellation still mention John Walsh Investigates which might be a more emotionally-appealing and interview driven show. Nevertheless, I hope either John or Callahan Walsh can set up AMW somewhere else, perhaps on Investigation Discovery which would be such a fitting network.

Haha. I actually thought about that and the irony if AMW winds up on Oprah Winfrey's channel since that's another rumor Roman tried to spread. Although I did always warn him he was going to turn into the boy who cried wolf and say something credible one day where no one would believe him. I also love how you go away and all hell breaks loose, positive and negative. AMW gets cancelled, Edwin Rivera Gracias turns himself in, Gary Irving suddenly gets arrested a day after we talk about him. I don't think you expected to come back to THIS much activity. Anyway, on a more serious note, Lifetime is kidding themselves if they think "JWI" will get higher ratings than AMW. If they were that unhappy with ratings from AMW (which I have already stated on here is a facade to hide the real reason for cancellation), what makes them think a show without that name recognition would do any better? And also, the JWI concept was talked about while Lifetime and John Walsh were still in the honeymoon phase, as early as last June. That is when all the articles about AMW improving Lifetime's Friday nights by 50% came out. It's amazing how quickly this honeymoon ended. John Walsh talked about how Lifetime said they get it. America's Most Wanted gets a 20-episode mid-season extension. I remember stating how worried I was last October when AMW announced their season finale and Abby Tiger, a friend of the show longtime viewers know very well, made a comment on Facebook teling Lifetime to put AMW back on. Pakman told me not to worry and you don't cancel a show you give a 20-episode in-season extension to and all basic cable channels have between season breaks. I take no pleasure in being right, but he had a great point that relaxed me and needless to say I am very disappointed. My true wish is for AMW to wind up back on regular (non-cable) TV, but Investigation Discovery is such a great fit it isn't funny. I hope the head execs there realize that. As I have probably said too much, the silver lining in this horrifying news is that America's Most Wanted may wind up on a network that's even better suited for it.

Just wanted to say in all honesty I hope the outcome of all of this despite my petitions is AMW winds up on a new network that would play it more often. I've had it with Lifetime and even if they take it back, can we ever fully trust them to renew it each season?
Still, Lifetime might be AMW's "court of last resort." Many articles point out Lifetime has a low standard for ratings and if even they can cancel AMW, it might be the ultimate death knell. That is why I'm trying so hard to get Lifetime to reverse their decision just in case they're the only option left (I hope not, and I would love for ID to pick up AMW, they have many low-budget re-enactments on their crime dramas already). But while I would like AMW to wind up somewhere else, I've still got my fingers crossed here for AMW to be back on soon, no matter the channel. The bad guys will be caught and victims will get justice no matter what.

Ok so now I'm really confused. There's an article today about an alleged DUI killer who absconded from his trial in Louisiana , and in the article, it mentions the sheriff's office is trying to get him on AMW. It doesn't talk about them actually talking to AMW, so perhaps the spokesman is just unaware they've been cancelled. I'm not going to get overly excited for that reason, but it is rather odd to see that: theadvocate.com/news/5619718-123/deputies-launch-nationwide-search-for"The Sheriff’s Office is working with U.S. marshals to get Lohse placed on the nation’s 15 most wanted fugitives list and also is trying Lafayette’s search broadcast on “America’s Most Wanted” television show, Judice said." If anyone remembers back in late November, a sex offender named Randolph Flinn was captured and it was said they were coordinating with AMW to get him on there. That calmed my nerves a lot until Lifetime apparently did an about-face. www.usmarshals.gov/news/chron/2012/112812d.htm

I was quite surprised they cancelled it, it was definitely more of a success airing on Lifetime than FOX.

I should say my one reservation about if AMW moves to a new network, we knew they could capture criminals on Lifetime, and we have no idea if say, TruTV, can have the same success. I think AMW is a powerful show that can capture criminals on any channel, even Animal Planet, but we've yet to see if my statement can hold up. They definitely had more capture success on it than the last few years on Fox thanks to the reruns. I myself was shocked and disappointed. Media outlets are trying to make it sound like the Lifetime cancellation is less of a surprise than when Fox cancelled it. I disagree. The show was getting worse on Fox, and the direction was getting much and better on Lifetime. (I'd gladly let Fox take it back now though).
