A few more thoughts I had-
No one can deny that Fox's licensing fees might have had something to do with Lifetime's decision to cancel AMW or perhaps even the main reason- but on the same token- John Walsh is said to be possibly moving on from the AMW brand and re-naming/re-branding the show to avoid those fees if he gets it on another network. If Lifetime really did love what AMW did for them that much, wouldn't they and John Walsh produce another fugitive-chasing show in addition to John Walsh Investigates? Instead of Walsh moving to a new network to do a new show? JWI was already being discussed as an additional project when AMW and Lifetime were still in the honeymoon phase. Perhaps AMW wasn't in their budget regardless or they really did make a judgement based on ratings. And once again 800 K is not entirely impressive, but for Friday night it was a lot better than how Lifetime had been doing, and increased their viewers by nearly 50%. These Hoarders reruns don't even rank.

I took down the thread about JWI debuting on May 29th because even though tvguide says it, Lifetime's website schedule had it listed but suddenly took it down and the website zap2it.com doesn't have it listed as well. I'm going to wait to see since maybe they pushed back the debut date.

I don't get it at all. Yes AMW's ratings were not like it was during the FOX tenure. But I find that the show is valuable to the viewers because John does a good job to keep them motivated. I really hope a network does the right thing and pick up AMW!

Hi AJM, Relatively speaking, AMW's ratings were still impressive for Lifetime. Their Friday night ratings went through the roof at one point. A lot of us speculate Fox's heavy license fees is the real reason Lifetime cancelled AMW. There is some positive news in yet another newspaper is speculating about CMT possibly picking up AMW, but we will have to wait and see: www.nypost.com/p/entertainment/tv/starr_report_hAROKAaSPTa9NIHuc2biqI

So a few more thoughts here: I talked with Derek about this and hesitated posting this since I don't want to get people's hopes up, but last week on Facebook, AMW's executive in charge, whose posts I subscribe too, posted "Amtraking it to NYC with John Walsh for some important meetings!". Abby Tiger, a friend of the show wished him good luck. I got really excited thinking it may be related to AMW, but then I remembered I've looked too much into his posts in the past. He once showed pics of the cast and crew of AMW filming along with a girl holding the AMW logo in February and it had me thinking it was a great sign, but a las, they must have been filming for JWI. He also posted a picture of himself standing in front of the FBI's top 10 list days before AMW was officially cancelled. So this latest ominous post has me wondering if there may be a deeper meaning, but I've over-interpreted the meanings of some of his updates in the past. Also, a poster on my Facebook group mentioned if Netflix would be a possibility for AMW. Former cancelled show Arrested Development just released a full season on there. Now this is embarrassing to admit, but I have never subscribed to Netflix and am ignorant as to how it works. I don't think a show such as AMW would work on Netflix since it's a time sensitive show that often has breaking news updates. I think Netflix releases a set of movies and shows to choose from a month. I think it would be hard to keep up. Does anyone not as behind the times as me know exactly how Netflix works so I can wonder better about the possibility for AMW on there? Thanks!

So I mentioned MyNetworkTV as my preferred choice for AMW to return (The ID channel on cable is a close second). Even though I have cable, not everyone does, and a return to regular tv would make it a show everyone can watch again. Not to mention, MyNetwork doesn't have to pay license fees since its' owned by Fox. A couple months ago I wrote on their wall suggesting they add AMW and they actually liked my comment and said "keep watching, you never know." and told another poster who also suggested adding AMW "whatever happens, it won't be until the fall." Usually when someone suggests a show they would give a general response like "you never know." but with this they seemed to at least be winking at the possibility. Today, someone posted on their FB page that they heard AMW has a new home on MyNetworkTV this fall. Now while I will take anything said on Facebook with a grain of salt, My Network was once again rather coy and ominous telling the poster they will have to wait until the fall to find out. Now I don't know if they're purposely being coy to keep all options open or what, but if there is any possibility that AMW may wind up on there, they do not announce their fall schedule until September! I know we had a four-month wait for AMW's deal with Lifetime when Fox cancelled them, and we didn't actually find out Lifetime cancelled AMW until this past April, but this would essentially equal a wait of almost one year! I'm starting to be a bit more optimistic we will see the return of AMW this fall. And I don't care about waiting to do so. But darn it, I want some network, any network, to at least announce it will be back already!

the user took their post down. At least I hope it was the user. I'm remaining cautiously optimistic about mynetwork since the only two channels mentioned in legitimate media as potentially being interested are CMT and CNN, but I do find it weird how coy they are when asked about the possibility.

On a somewhat off-topic note, Lifetime's website schedule now lists John Walsh Investigates as debuting on Wednesday, June 19th at 9 PM. Of course, we will have to wait to see if this is ever officially confirmed since they keep bumping it back.

So I posted on this forum's Facebook group reminding people that it still wouldn't hurt to try to get Lifetime to change their minds, and Steve, the guy who runs MKTV actually replied and posted this:
"Ok. Having talked with the parties involved in GREAT detail about this subject, let me expressly state here that Lifetime *WANTS* to air more AMW.
Let me repeat that so that everyone reading this understands.
They WANT more AMW.
The problem does not lie with Lifetime, but moreso with Fox...or more specifically the economy, in general.
Lifetime (and Fox) cannot *afford* to produce AMW in this economy.
I have spoken with many representatives about this issue.
Lifetime has cut as many possible costs as they could to produce and distrubute AMW, even going so far as moving the offices of AMW a while back.
The problem lies in the fact that production costs (lighting, film costs, catering, producers salaries, etc.) even cut to the absolute bare minimum humanly possible would cost more money than AMW brings back in.
I truly wish this were not the case, but it is.
The *real* problem was that there was not enough support during the last year of AMW's existence on Fox by viewers who were more tuned into other shows. Neilsen records proved that statement.
It was only AFTER Fox announced they were cancelling the show, that most people began to notice and care."
This is interesting. And I agree pretty much (except I only half-agree about the Nielsen thing. AMW did not have Big Bang-Theory ratings its' last year as a weekly series on Fox, but it still won Saturday nights. However, the 2-hour specials did not perform that well after it was cancelled)
MKTV does a great service. And yes, perhaps the answer is plain and simple.
However, I just don't want to sit back and say "Ok, no one can afford AMW. Let's just give up and be quiet about it and not attempt to get the show that has done so much good and we've been watching for decades back." In other words, I just don't think the answer is to throw our hands up and give up and say well it was good while it lasted.
It might be a long shot and perhaps naive, but I am of the opinion the more people continue to *still* voice their opinion, the more perhaps it will inspire AMW and Lifetime to go back to the negotiating table and try to think of more creative ways to save money. Or inspire another network to pick up AMW.
Still, interesting insights there.

Here's a promising sign:
WGN Chicago interviewed AMW executive in charge Roger Chiang. It was a good interview Where he discussed the Hannah Anderson/James DiMaggio case and child safety.
And of course the big question was asked: when is AMW returning?
Chiang replied they are working on it, in discussion with a couple of networks and hope to be on the air soon!
Will post the link below but fingers crossed!

So interesting thing I learned was the news of the new Lifetime deal came a day after Labor Day two years ago. Two years later, and no such luck with a new network. But we still have three days left before this eclipses even the wait from Fox to Lifetime. (Lifetime's deal was announced on September 6th, 2011)

I still believe that Investigation Discovery can cover the financial costs of producing new AMW reenactments (if they pick it up) since the channel airs true crime cases all day. I don't know how much of their shows use reenactments but I presume it's the majority of them.

According to Roger Chiang, they are still in talks with a few networks and hope to be back soon. No idea who those networks are but I agree ID can cover the cost of the re-enactments. The license fees are another story if they really are that prohibitive as people make them out to be. But I am tired of this whole "woe is Lifetime" concept. They just strike me as a cheap network in general. They cancelled Drop Dead Diva, a show I don't watch but was very popular over production costs, brought it back after fan protest and from what I read still haven't decided whether to renew it for another season. Lifetime stinks, no sympathy from me. Unless they bring AMW back.
