This maybe just me, but I think that crime is not as much a hot button issue that it was prior to Bill Clinton taking office. "AMW" is still a fantastic show, but unfortunately it only drew about 800,000 viewers during it's two years on Lifetime. Walsh needs to ship the show to Investigation Discovery or TruTV where they know the show will have a built-in audience. Lifetime was a poor fit for the show. I'm not thrilled that they cancelled it, but I'm relieved to know that the show isn't in limbo anymore. Walsh should ship it to "You Tube" if the above mentioned networks don't pick up the show. I know there's still an audience out there for it.

I apologize since I just saw your post now. I believe I answered you before but contrary to popular belief, ratings overall improved Lifetime's Friday night numbers in 2012 compared to 2011. Remember, we are comparing cable to broadcast not to mention AMW was in the Friday night "death slot" for tv shows. Lifetime did seem an odd fit at first, but the network did also broadcast Unsolved Mysteries and had a lot of capture success with AMW.
And also, unfortunately, crime will always be an issue. There will always be a need for AMW, even if violent crimes as a whole are down. (Although the victims of these latest mass shootings would disagree)
But I appreciate your comments and agree there's still an audience for the show!

Here's some interesting things I've just read this week from the guy who does MKTV in the Save AMW Facebook group following AMW's:
"Please note that it is *not* Lifetime that is holding out. It is Fox. I have been very much closely watching the situation as it relates to the contract negotiations. Lifetime aired three episodes without being under contract with Fox.
As you may or may not know, Fox owns the legal rights to the name America's Most Wanted... it's logos, theme song, etc.
When AMW was cancelled by Fox, it was eventually negotiated to a 20 episode contract on the Lifetime network.
Those episodes began airing in December of 2011.
In March of 2012, Lifetime negotiated in additional 20 episode.
This would equal 40 episodes total.
When episode 39 aired, Fox decided to greatly increase the licensing fees for AMW.
When episode 41 aired without being under contract, Fox sent a "cease and desist" order to Lifetime.
Lifetime replied that they had episodes 42 and 43 filmed and wanted to air them as a "Season Finale" while negotiations continued.
Fox allowed that.
This was last Friday (October 19th)
So to make a long story short, Fox originally cancelled AMW beacause it wasn't making Fox enough money. Now that it is making money for Lifetime, Fox wants a bigger piece of the pie. Lifetime currently can't pay what they are asking, but *want* to be able to.
So the current status of AMW is under negotations."
He further explains in February on the group:
"This means that 3 episodes of AMW were aired on Lifetime WITHOUT BEING UNDER CONTRACT."
Fox sent Lifetime a "cease and desist" order saying that it was illegal for Lifetime to air the episodes without paying royalties to Fox.
Fox agreed to not press charges of any kind to Lifetime for airing the three episodes, but that Lifetime needed to sign a new contract with Fox, not because Fox is greedy and looking for money or anything, but because is Fox is trying to keep everything legal and within the law.
I think Lifetime risking civil prosecution to air the episodes says a lot about Lifetime as a whole"
All this obviously makes a lot of sense, and as much as this might make you mad at Fox, Lifetime actually showed three episodes without permission from Fox! And, this is a capitalist country, and if Lifetime starts making more money, it would make sense for Fox to want some more money as well. It's basically like Lifetime pocketed extra cash.
I wish both sides would have just called in an arbitrator.

The link didn't load for me but I have a hard time believing that the show would wind up on something like Country Music Television. Anyway, I'll consider that to just be a "rumor".

The article implies CMT has been shying away from their country music roots and have been adding more crime-based reality shows such as one with Dog the bounty hunter.

They said executives "have their eyes" on it. Whatever that may mean but that's a bit more than implying rumor. We shall see.

If this becomes a reality I take it John Walsh would be required to host each show in a cowboy hat. "Yee'haw and welcome to America's Most Wanted." "And remember ya'll can and do make a difference." Thanks I'll be here all week!

So about CMT, as weird as it may seem at first, I just realized in addition to Dog: The Bounty Hunter they also have Cops: Reloaded which are actually newly edited-episodes of Cops: www.cmt.com/show/cops_reloaded/series.jhtmlSo although channels such as TruTV or ID would be an already perfect fit, CMT is attempting to become a little more crime-genre oriented as well. It would be nice to see AMW paired with Cops once again (TruTv also shows reruns of Cops as well). I liked AMW on Lifetime but the one part that felt odd to me still was Cops not being with it or at least on the same channel. A lot of us may say CMT, but they're the country music channel, but apparently they are going the way of MTV, which of course went from a music video channel to what today is a mainly pop-culture channel that shows hardly- if any- music videos at all. That's not to say AMW will wind up there, as the LA Times says execs have their eye on it and who knows if there's other potential bidders, but it is not as weird a fit as it originally seemed to me. I'd still prefer a channel with an already-built in audience for the crime genre as opposed to one that is just recently trying to develop one, but beggars can't be choosers, and even if AMW winds up on Animal Planet or the Food Network, I will still watch. Let's hope wherever they wind up is a permanent home for decades or even centuries to come.

So this might be really off-topic but here's what I don't get, Lifetime has been playing Hoarders reruns pretty much since last December. It's not so much just AMW as I'm surprised not even JWI (John Walsh Investigates) or any show has been aired these past few months. They have to be taking a hit on Friday nights. I checked tvbythenumbers and Hoarders never ranks on Friday's top cable shows, not even in the top 20 at least. I think once I saw they had an 0.2 which is 10x worse than AMW did. Hoarders was a popular show on A&E, but Lifetime is just playing reruns over and over. I'm surprised they haven't inserted anything there, even if isn't AMW. Although news of AMW's fate was not announced until late March, JWI was supposed to debut in early February at the latest.
It seems Lifetime does not have a budget for anything at the moment....

Not sure what this means towards AMW but COPS has now left Fox for a new cable network as well. They will air in their old time slot this fall, Saturdays at 8, but now on Spike TV. CMT shows COPS: Reloaded, which are essentially reruns but with newly edited and never-before seen footage. Spike TV will be showing the originals in the fall. Would be nice if they could take on AMW as well and pair the two once again: www.tvguide.com/News/Cops-New-Network-Exclusive-1064971.aspx

I don't think anyone ever thought it was a possibility considering it was cancelled a second time by them, but this also seems to 100% confirm AMW will never be back on Fox considering now even Cops has left it. The era is officially over for COPS and AMW on FOX.

...But does FOX still own the rights to the America's Most Wanted license?
