The FBI has many methods through public tips and advanced science (they caught Neil Stammer through facial recognition technology!)
Because Curtis Brovold is not one of the more well known cases on the FBI site, it seems like there's not as much information on there as others.
Once again if I had more info it would be here but I routinely keep track of news on fugitives via google news, google search, fugitive themed websites like Fugitive Watch etc...

You would think in reality that the only way these guys that have been on the run for 15+years would get caught is if they make an error, Anthony Kendall dewater for example is another one who has been on the run since 1992 so he is probably not going to be caught and I hate saying that but logically its been years since these guys were last seen and I am from England by the way. Do you think it is possible that one of these people is living by my house as I speak ? I wouldn't think that every day I wake up. Brovold is likely to have a fake name and is probably living in mexico city. The FBI has sent numerous bounty hunters to try and find him but he was always a step ahead of them. He is an intelligent guy and knows his way around computers. Where are you from by the way ? It is so easy for one of these fugitives to go across the Mexican border and never be seen again. Do you have the same information as I do on Brovold or am I missing something here ? You are probably better than this than I am.
By the way thanks for taking the time to read my replies, I appreciate it.

I have the same info so far but you're doing great yourself!
And sorry for making you paranoid since I mentioned England as a possibility not knowing you were from there lol. I think it's just for some reason Roger Giese popped into my head and perhaps that influenced my thinking. The more I think about it the more Latin America makes sense.
I am from New York.

I don't think he will ever be found as all these years go by with sometimes no leads. I Wonder what difference it would make it they put him on the top 10 most wanted fbi list. He would not fit the criteria though. Do you think Anthony Kendall dewater will be captured ? It has been 26 years since they last saw him so it is unlikely. By the way how would age technology make a difference? I would want to know what brovold would at least look like at 65. He is still probably living in Minnesota under an alias. Some of these guys return home. What do you do to catch them ? Do you hand out posters ?

Here's an article about Stammer being caught through facial recognition technology: www.theguardian.com/technology/2014/aug/13/suspected-child-abuse-fugitive-caught-facial-recognitionThe FBI I'm sure has methods that they purposely don't reveal to the public because they don't want to show their hand or jeopardize the investigation. Fugitives wanted by the FBI are usually publicity blitzed through the agency via Facebook, Twitter, etc... And of course, back when America's Most Wanted (of course, our version of your show Crimewatch UK which I think is very upsetting that they cancelled both shows) was on the air they'd show a fugitive's face. Often times, even if a fugitive looks much different, somehow they still get discovered. They have a few too many drinks and confess to a friend they're a wanted fugitive, someone from back in the day knew where they fled to all along etc...

I read the article about stammer. It is amazing what this new technology can do. They didn't have it back then but to be honest the fbi did do facial progression on buscchau and he looked nothing like the picture. If you compare that guy from 1993 to now when he was caught you wouldn't be able to recognise him although some features of him still stood out. I think he turned himself in. If he didn't do that then it is possible he would have never been found even though they new he was hiding in South Africa but most fugitives that go on the run that aren't in America are found in Mexico because it easy to obtain a fake name and you can bribe people aswell. The fbi should look towards the countries and states down there. Do you work for the fbi ?

As far as I can tell, none of the regular posters here work for law enforcement. We just all have the same interest in getting justice for crime victims and keeping the streets safer for innocent people.

has Brovold ever been shown on TV or aired ? If so where can I find it ? he was last seen in Mexico City and if I submitted a tip like this to the FBI would they do anything about it ? He has in the past recently used the address of 120 skyline drive in granite falls minnesota where he is from. I found this out from the website truthfinder and it has his email and phone numbers on there although he probably would have changed them by now. You should take a look at truthfinder because it could include a key piece of information.

Curtis Brovold has aired on America's Most Wanted, but past episodes of the show are hard to obtain. Although I believe he was a "15 seconds of shame" anyway. To explain, the show would do a full segment (like 5-15 minutes) on like at least fugitive cases an episode. But they had a special brief moment in the show where they briefly showed photos of fugitives for 15 seconds for which Brovold was one of them. Why they didn't give Brovold a full segment is beyond me. P.S. You seem to know about other cases as well, so you're more than welcome to comment on them as well.

P.S. Also although none of us work for the FBI (that I know of) I guess whether they respond to a tip depends on how credible/serious they find the tip or if they feel the need to follow up (they may find a person's tip credible, but no technical reason to need to talk to them, just research what they told them for example).

Brovold is most likely not going to be caught as firstly it may be possible that at 64 or now 65 he may have had health problems and also the FBI dont focus on him on a daily basis as they have more dangerous fugitives to look out for. His picture from 18 years ago is more or less useless. They should do a facial progression on him and what I don't get is that I have seen John washes Americas most wanted feature fugitives that were on the same page as him on the FBI website and they didn't give him any time on it. They must have a certain criteria to put them on TV. Just think if he was put on TV for 15 minutes how many people would call in a tip. I think that the fugitives that are 75 or over could be dead due to problems with health.

I have seen some of John's programs such as the hunt with John Walsh and the featured many people on the list but how many people have been caught by the use of this program ? Did Curtis brovold possibly have no friends and decided to do something like this ? Most of the people who do these things don't have many friends and therefore feel lonely and then try and find people online. Brovold could still be on the Internet today doing this as he is an expert on computers and he knows how to stop the police from getting some of his files. I read from one article that the door in the room that they were at had a deadbolt on it. The police apparently tried to break down the door but Brovold eventually opened the door. Apparently he had a computer with him in the room and it is possible that he deleted some files which would have gotten him more time. The police were lucky that they didn't have to use brute force on him as Brovold stands 6ft 3. This is what is dangerous about these people. The girl online did not expect to meet a 46 year old man who was 6ft 3. If brovold had done worse things to her she wouldn't stand a chance against someone of his height. Brovold also told the girl that he was 29. What is your opinion ?

The Hunt featured less fugitives, but while some were just caught as coincidence, they played a hand in probably a decent amount of captures over the years. I don't have much to add, except I agree with what you said.
