Maybe it was an exaggeration? Like they know they have a bunch of binders. I dunno. I've never listened to the podcasts on Al Kite to judge them, but sometimes in the past information isn't always entirely accurate on them.

There's lots of background check websites and stuff like that. They also have a lot of time to track the case with these podcasts since they're usually dedicated to just one case a series or over a series of episodes usually. I'll admit perhaps I don't do have as much research as I should on some cases since this is an overall discussion site with many cases (although Al Kite ranks highly on my list of unsolved cases I want to see solved). I agree with you that I want this case solved, too. The reason being, in my opinion, the killer of Al Kite poses a huge danger to the public. Basically, he was chosen at random and killed just for the thrill of it, and there are instances where thrill killers (Eric Royce Leonard, Charles Ng, and Leonard Lake being some examples) go out and kill again. I’m really worried when he is caught, we will find out Al Kite wasn’t his only victim.

Yeah and that is the thing about whether Al Kite's killer reads about himself. Serial killers like to relive their crime. He might be doing so anyway, but there's an even greater likelihood Al Kite's killer reads about himself if he has more victims.

I just tried uploading Al Kite’s AMW segment to YouTube, but it got blocked automatically by FOX. That’s so ridiculous. Why would they care? I’m just trying to spread awareness about the case. Copyright rules drive me insane sometimes. Now that I mention it, it’s hard to find any AMW segments on YouTube. Do you guys know a place where you can watch old segments?

Unfortunately Fox's copyright laws make it very hard to view/watch and obtain old episodes or segments of AMW. And I agree, Fox valued money over lives which is why they canceled AMW in the first place, then made the licensing fees Lifetime had to pay them so prohibitive Lifetime had to cancel the show as well. (The ratings were not that great on Lifetime, but the license fees was the actual reason it was cancelled). It is very frustrating but we have a view AMW on YouTube, AMW on Vimeo threads in our episode request section (which explained is a just in case subforum because of the difficulty of obtaining segments) where if anyone does find something they can post it in those threads: amwfans.com/board/56/true-crime-episode-segment-requests

This is just a thought, but do you think the killer may have video taped what he did to Al, and that is the detail the police are withholding from the public, in case an admission ever happens? Unlike most people, I think it's very possible this was the killer's only kill. So maybe he wanted to capture it so he could relive it over and over again. I know that's kind of a wild thought, but I just have this weird feeling he may have video taped it. The fact it happened in a basement, the fact it was so brutal and stretched out for such a long time, idk that just screams video tape to me. Maybe he knew this was going to be his only kill. I know it would be risky to keep a video tape of you murdering someone, but who knows. These psychos do a lot of weird things.

I don't think that is far fetched and is entirely possible.

Someone reading that might say "How could the police tell if he video taped it?" Well there are a few ways. Maybe there were marks in the carpet indicating a camera stand had been there. Or maybe Al Kite's video camera was missing from the house. Or maybe his body had been moved around a bit, possibly for reasons that would involve the video. I'm sure there are other ways the police could tell if that had happened.

No I agree with you it is entirely possible. Even if no videotape, the killer probably has a few "mementos" (I hate saying that but that's what they are to him) from the crime scene.

Since he took a “torture kit” to the scene like one of the detectives described, it does stand to reason that he took a trophy of some sort. We do know that Joseph James DeAngelo took items from various attacks, and Dennis Rader did steal Joseph Otero’s watch from that awful crime scene.

One thing I’m confused about is the “torturing kit.” In a Denver Post article, Al’s sister says the killer brought his own little “torturing kit.” But AMW, Sensing Murder, and the police themselves said he killed Al using Al’s kitchen knives. Seems to be an inconsistency there. Maybe the cops were tying to withhold that detail, but Al’s sister accidentally spilled the beans. What is a torturing kit anyway? And how would they know the killer brought one?

Just listened to another podcast and now I'm rethinking whether the killer was actually from out of town. According to the podcaster, The University of Colorado Hospital Library (where the killer saw the rental ads), is a place that you wouldn't think to stop in and look for classifieds. You would more than likely have to be familiar with the campus to know that would be somewhere you could look at classifieds. The podcaster claims to have worked at the University of Colorado Hospital, making them credible. I originally thought the killer would have to be from out of town because he would run the risk of being recognized again in Aurora, but maybe he was actually an Aurora resident and was planning on moving right after the murder, or maybe even left immediately after the murder. I wish I was a detective so I could look up everyone who moved out of the area during that time.

Torturing kit is kind of vague and open for interpretation so not exactly sure either.
Sometimes killers or serial killers (although we admittedly don't know if Al's killer is a serial killer or not) often hide in plain sight but to have not been suspected by anyone he would have had to been a really quiet guy who kept to himself. I know that's a cliche stereotype of a serial killer but that's the only way he wouldn't have been recognized or thought of as Al's potential killer by now.

I was going to mention, as I mentioned, it is possible this killer has murdered other people, but if he has, I’m guessing he used a different modus operandi. Reason I say this is because since the FBI has profiled this on their Vicap site, they have more than likely compared it to other unsolved cases throughout the country. If they had a match, I think we would know by now, but that’s something we don’t know as of yet.

Good point. I thought of that as well. If he is indeed a serial killer, I'm sure he's smart enough to change how he does it every time. But aren't there only a limited number of ways to avoid detection, without a pattern emerging? To keep getting away with murders, you would have to be very meticulous. How many different ways are there to do that? Wouldn't investigators be able to notice a pattern? They would be like "Look, we have all these unsolved murders across the country where the killer was obviously very sophisticated." Most criminals aren't too bright. One thing that makes me think this was his first kill was the fact that he was drinking while he killed Al. The reenactment in Sensing Murder shows the killer drinking while tormenting Al. The same drinking glass can be seen in Al's sink in one of the crime scene photos, along with the knives he used. I guess it's possible he just likes to drink while he murders people, but that seems a bit odd doesn't it? If these psychos really get such a thrill from killing, wouldn't they want to experience that sober? Why would they want it distorted in any way?
