For AMW viewers, it's one of the most infamous- and bizarre- images in show history. A drunken and naked William Greer being questioned by police making an odd confession. Although Greer was removed from the show's website- I found his full AMW-profile description from archive.org:


"Odd Arrest Helps Put Pieces Together

On Dec. 22, 2006 police in Cleveland, Texas made an unusual arrest. A man was wandering naked in a field, visibly intoxicated. As the officers were interviewing the man, 41-year-old William Greer, he said he had done some cocaine and confessed to accidently shooting and kiling his live-in girlfriend.

Since the cops didn't have anything to prove what they were being told, they released Greer the next day.

However, a week later investigators in the Harris County Sheriff's Office, heard gruesome testimony from Greer's 9- and 13-year-old children.

According to cops, on December 19, 2006, the kids, who lived with Greer and his girlfriend, Tammy Myers Esquivel, heard the two adults arguing violently between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. Cops say the kids also heard a gunshot followed by Tammy gurgling and Greer asking her if she was dead or alive.

Where Is Tammy?

The next morning, the kids left for school but didn't see Tammy. That same day, their mother picked them up to spend the holidays with her. The kids kept what happened to themselves.

But on December 30, 2006, the day they returned home they told their mother everything.

When cops went to Greer's house and searched the bedroom, they didn't see Tammy. However, they found clear evidence of a shooting, blood, and a roll of clear wrap, indicating a body had been removed. They still haven't been able to find Tammy's body.

Greer Takes Off

After Greer was arrested in Cleveland, Texas, cops believe he went to see a relative in Houston. Police say he told his realtive that he had messed up his life and that he was heading to Georgia to see his brother, and that he was not coming back to Houston.

Once in Georgia cops say Greer told his brother that he had shot Tammy by accident, but that he buried her body so nobody would find her. He also said that he was going to go to Canada and start a new life there.

Cops say Greer's brother dropped him at a truck stop and that was the last time he was seen.

However, cops believe there are ways to spot Greer. He enjoys practicing martial arts and he is skillful with numchucks. They also say he has a cocaine addiction, chain smokes and drinks a lot of alcohol. But the best clue may be the fact that he lacks his right index toe."





Thoughts? Since then, Greer has become one of the most frustrating fugitives in AMW history- as the show just missed him multiple times. It seems he would get a new girlfriend, see he was on AMW again, and flee right before the cops would come in. (If I recall correctly, Kentucky and New Orleans were two locations he fled to)

The video of an AMW update I linked to above, tvweb.com claims he was finally captured, however I have no definitive proof of that. That site isn't a law enforcement site, he's still listed as a fugitive on the US Marshals page, ( www.justice.gov/marshals/district/tx-s/fugitives/ ) and he is not in any inmate database, so as far as I'm concerned, he's still a fugitive until it's proven otherwise. Of course if anyone has proof, they are more than welcome to post here.

Although it's tempered by the fact he has not yet have been caught and not trying to make light, but I also remember these airings had one of my favorite John Walsh lines in history, when, referring to Greer's cowboy headgear, Walsh stated "Wherever he is, I'm sure he's still wearing that stupid hat."

In my opinion, John Walsh is right and although I remember he had to leave it behind after one close call, he is likely still wearing a similarly stupid hat. Rather odd to me he's successfully been on the run for so long and imo he's probably still down South somewhere. Some fugitives are smart, but I think Greer has just been unfortunately incredibly lucky. It's time for his luck to run out.
