According to another translation I found on Facebook, Greer was living in an indigenous community in the Mexican state of Tabasco, where he had been known under the name Daniel Ortega

Also Greer can say it was an accident or whatever, but I hope now that he's caught, he'll at least have the dignity to say where Tammy's body is and defend himself later.

Wow! Considering he was all the way in Tabasco, Mexico, it's understandable as to why it took a total of 11 years to locate him. For those who aren't aware, Tabasco is a Mexican state that's pretty much between Mexico City and Cancun. Since he probably had no family ties there, no one likely realized who exactly he was.
The question I have is that when after the sightings in New Orleans and Kentucky did he go to Mexico? He was hitchhiking during his time in the US so did he hitchhike all the way to Mexico, or did someone purchase a ticket for him? The most important thing is that William Greer has finally been caught, so good work to US and Mexican authorities for not giving up in this manhunt.

I'm not surprised Greer wound up in Mexico since the very good public tips seemed to dissipate over the years suggesting he fled the country. However like you I am curious as to how he even got into that part of Mexico.

Right now no mention of the show so I wouldn't want to get my hopes up (that's not to say we'll find out otherwise later but I'd rather not assume anything and be pleasantly surprised instead). But in some weird way I do feel you have to at least credit the AMW airings for forcing Greer to be constantly on his toes. |

You know what's crazy about this? The fact he was in Mexico implies that he was back in the south at some point, and may have even been in Texas. I don't know how he entered Mexico (I assume Texas, Arizona or New Mexico) but that's crazy that he may have returned to the state he was wanted out of!
EDIT: Even if The Hunt played no role in his capture, you have to give AMW and The Hunt credit for keeping the spotlight on him. I need to go back and count, but I'm pretty sure Greer received a whopping 15 profiles on the show between 2007 and 2011.

Two more notes:
-Greer expected to be extradited quickly since he was living in Mexico without documentation.
-No word on if he had any nasty hats with him.

Greer is already back in Houston!

Greer is being officially held without bail. He did not appear in a court hearing after claiming he "wasn't feeling well." Normally I'm not the biggest fan of being concerned about a fugitive's health but this concerns me as imo he's playing games/acting funny already and I really hope they put Greer on suicide watch.
