I realize this is technically the least important part of the article- but there's a tricky case involving former UFC champion Cain Velazquez- he is in jail on attempted murder charges. He shot at a car attempting to kill a man who was molesting a relative of his, only to miss and hit the man's stepfather instead. The writer of the article somehow managed to turn this tricky case into a tirade against "woke" culture- and somehow found the time to state "Just think: perhaps we could have been treated to an episode of In Pursuit With John Walsh, the far less successful sequel to America's Most Wanted, profiling the former UFC champion." www.sports-central.org/sports/2022/04/19/cain_velasquez_victim_of_woke_zeal.phpFirst of all, The Hunt was actually the technical sequel to AMW. Also In Pursuit while not AMW is now going into its' fourth season on ID and is one of the channel's most successful shows. It is not "far less" successful but while nothing will be the original AMW, the show works and is successful. The case itself is tricky though. It is still taking the law into one's own hands, even if the intended victim was not someone anyone would feel sorry for. I will admit this is a case I would not want to be a jury member on. But technically this case doesn't constitute self-defense if the "victim" was not threatening Velazque's life, so I don't know why the writer would think things would be any different in Texas. Maybe Velazquez might have gotten bail in Texas. Also its hilarious how everyone is complaining about everything being woke now. I'm not sure they even know what that means it since it is being overused constantly and in examples like this that are about legal technicalities that have nothing to do with "wokeness". (For me, woke means actually being self-aware of society and caring about others, but that's just me). But yeah I realize there's more important issues, but it just pissed me off they called In Pursuit the less successful sequel lol.

With Jeffrey Dahmer having been in my feed for about a week or so, I noticed that the category of criminal that Dahmer falls in, the infamous “Serial Killer” has actually been in decline in recent decades, which is a wonderful accomplishment for society that this type of killer for the most part has been eradicated from our society, despite there being a few here and there. If we look at it, the serial killer phenomenon has given us many things in our modern society that despite being a bad situation, good came from a bad situation, like people being more alert and aware than decades before, parents have gotten overprotective of their children compared to 50 years ago, and unfortunately John Walsh was dealt the most heartbreaking blow life can throw at a parent, but as sad as the murder of Adam Walsh was, good came from it in that, John Walsh became a victims rights advocate, and he’s still going to this day. According to this article, the reasons for why serial killers have declined, apart from what I mentioned, but as a society, social media is quick to spread the world about potential weirdos, not many people go outside to play much anymore, mental health has been getting addressed a lot better than previous decades. Also this last one is a sad truth, but perhaps many of the people who could’ve possibly have been would-be serial killers are doing stuff on the internet landfill that is the dark web. www.discovermagazine.com/the-sciences/what-explains-the-decline-of-serial-killers

It's also a lot harder to get away with being a serial killer today thanks to advanced DNA and technology. There wasn't even a 911 system when the Golden State Killer was at their worst. So it's a combination of things I think.
I still haven't seen the Jeffrey Dahmer series on Netflix, not sure if I want to maybe I will.
Annoyed at all the new articles about the claims he was the real killer of Adam Walsh though. We've been through this.

I had a dream last night in which Tamera Renee "Tammy" Williams was added to the US Marshals' 15 Most Wanted. I wonder how effective publicity from the list would be, in tandem with her 2021-era AMW and In Pursuit airings, would be in flipping the manhunt.

I'd rather discuss this in us marshals general discussion thread but she would be a good addition. Although she's now been on three TV shows (Unsolved Mysteries as well) and still hasn't been caught yet. But I'd say being a female on the list would stand out.

Thanks outlawtaco, now I’m gonna be changing gears to a story that really made me uncomfortable today and it’s about the Dalai Lama, the guy literally kissed a little boy on the lips on video and then preceded to ask the boy to suck his tongue. This seems like a custom of Tibetan culture, and other cultures have their own thing i guess but the way I view it, it’s very disturbing and disgusting to ask an underage boy, who literally has no understanding of those concepts and shouldn’t have an understanding of those concepts, the Dalai Lama has apologized, but an apology doesn’t do jack s**t in this situation as this is one of those things that your reputation just doesn’t recover from, doing nasty things with children is a huge no in our society and it’s looked down on, and imma say this mateys, any individual who thinks this is okay, cute, or finds pleasure in this is sick in the head…. and you need to be put in front of a firing squad. www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/rcna79035

Children don't have as developed of immune systems, especially in their single digits, so any pathogen the Dalai Lama was carrying which transmits through tongues or saliva could've spread to the boy and ruined his future, if not killed him. India isn't known for having access to sanitation or medical supervision or treatment, so that also compounds such a threat.

Is anyone familiar with the mysterious murder of Don Henry and Kevin Ives In Arkansas in 1987? It appeared on Unsolved Mysteries in the early 90s, it was these 2 boys that were hit by a train, but it turned out they were already dead when the train struck them, which then turned into an alleged coverup and alleged misdeeds by powerful people in the area that included an ex U.S. president en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Killing_of_Don_Henry_and_Kevin_Ives

I believe I've seen it but tbh I don't think the case piqued my interest enough to remember it vividly. Not that there can't be conspiracy theories related to it but cases like that get a little too out of hand for me sometimes.

A quick off-topic rant. I realize this is a first world problem and luxury problem to have but I wanted to rant anyway- I've been an Android fanboy for my entire life when it comes to phones- but I'm probably going to have to switch to iPhone soon- not because I'm no longer a fan of Android, but because Apple is making it impossible for non-Apple users to communicate with Apple users. Friends will want to Facetime me when it's an Apple product and I can't really do that or want me to Apple pay them if we're at a bar or restaurant and splitting a bill on something and/or cross-platform communication won't work as well in text messages.
I have Apple products (ironically typing on one right now), usually people stick to one type while my apartment shows a very confused man with Apple Amazon and Samsung and Google products lol, but basically when it comes to phones, I'd say I enjoy the freedom of Android- ability to move around apps, having a back button, none of the notes app with Apple I like as much when they are crucial for organizing for this site, better notification system imo. Apple is more restrictive as far as their ecosystem goes- however that is the argument for them as their stuff just works- it might not be as "fun" but I will give that Apple is more reliable in that way as strictness does mean sort of easier use- if you stick to only Apple it is very convenient- I just hate the way they sort of force you to have to.
But yeah, I hate to give in and let Apple win, since they basically make it impossible to communicate with non-Apple users on purpose to get people like to me to cave and buy their products lol, but unfortunately I may have no choice in the future.

I'm not sure where to post this but in NYC there is a controversy and protests because a white marine put a black and mentally ill man in a chokehold on the subway where he died. The man, Jordan Neely, allegedly was harassing passengers. He was being held in a chokwhold with some help from another passenger until police arrived. Some are calling for the marine, Daniel Penny, to be arrested, claiming he used excessive force and/or there wasn't a need to resteain Neely, while others are saying it was self defense and a microcosm of the lack of control over mental health and the homeless in our city.
I'm going to do something I feel not everyone is doing- agree with our Mayor- in that I will wait to reserve judgment until the matter is fully investigated. I feel everyone is jumping to one side or the other automatically when I don't think this is a case of obvious murder like George Floyd was. I am NOT saying I am taking the marine's side but there is enough nuance where investigation is needed and I will accept results and possible verdicts afterwards.
What I will say is New York City and the country in general need to do a better job with mental health issues where these situations don't have to happen. Neely should have been getting some sort of help and been in some sort of rehab clinic rather than roaming the subway asking for food etc...- That does not justify killing him (once again I will wait for everything to sort itself out) but there is a mental health crisis country that is going unnoticed other than it being used as an excuse to justify lack of gun control laws. (Gun nuts claim it is mental health and not lax gun laws- and my response is why can't we address both).

Reading about the budget slash and truncated season of In Pursuit, I have a question: Does anyone here know enough about the TV industry or TV economics to explain why the transition to a primarily streaming oriented nation has been so bumpy? I'm having a harder time making sense of it than with feature film economics.
