I know it's been established I'm the only one here who cares about sports but for posterity reasons just wanted to state my Super Bowl 2020 prediction is the Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Chicago Bears. I mentioned a long time ago I'm actually really good at predicting and normally get at least one of the two teams right (would have gotten the Saints right this year had the refs not screwed them). I just hope we don't see the Patriots again. It's not even a matter of not liking them (even though I also hate them), but it gets boring seeing the same team in the playoffs year after year and it would be nice to see new teams for a change. Hence, why I was happy when HeadMarshal's Raptors beat the Warriors. P.S. I thoroughly acknowledge my hypocrisy if the Yankees win the World Series this year as I'd like to see that again and again and again and again just like the 90's Just realized for once I was way off and need to admit it lol

I'm going to admit my own ignorance here but does anyone know what this "abolish prison" movement is about. I've said before I agree with the general premise of "defund the police"- which is NOT to get rid of police but allocate resources used for them to social services instead and retool police departments to only deal with the most serious issues. I think the wording is what I have the issue with, if there can be a way to have a shortened phrase otherwise it should be done- but in cities where this practice was done crime actually went down, and trust in police actually increased.
But abolish prison seems for the most part to focus on rehabilitation which is a good thing but it seems it may want no incarceration at all- apparently even with murderers they pay restitution to families or something. I think that's way too extreme but perhaps I'm misunderstanding. I'm all for prison reform and focusing on rehabbing and not punishment- but there are some people in our society that need to be caged and away from others. Once again though I'm admitting my own ignorance here so perhaps someone else here knows more what is actually meant by "prison abolition."

Hey all if anyone has noticed I've been a little less active than usual, it's not because of the election (which has been very entertaining) but because I've been a bit under the weather the past few days. Thankfully not Covid and just a bug, but enough to make me not as energetic at commenting. Hopefully I'll be a little more active soon.

R.I.P. Alex Trebek. I grew up watching Jeopardy! daily so it feels like a part of my childhood is lost. Obviously 2020 has been a year of notable deaths, but it feels personal when it's someone who has been in your home every day. Will miss Alex and the hilarious way he playfully teased contestants. Celebrity Jeopardy! in heaven with him and Sean Connery is gonna be lit though.

Happy new year everyone!
Obviously 2020 was a crap year but the orange menace will be gone soon and while that won't solve all our problems it's a start! Here's to 2021! 🥂

Seeing all the news headlines throughout '020 felt like witnessing some giant cast-iron mechanical fist slug most of the country's people a million times over the face every day, fast enough to smash almost any mortal being into fine pulp in a few seconds. That's how alarmingly the year went for me. If '021 is so much as mediocre, I'll be very grateful that it wasn't a year that completely ripped the world apart.

Just a reminder that we're still in a pandemic and I encourage everyone to continue to wear masks. Here in NYC, I see too many people not wearing masks lately. I feel that once people see the numbers go down/weather gets nicer, that gives them carte blanche to be careless again when it's still out there. I saw like 15 people walk by without a mask last night and it's like I can't even say anything not because I'm afraid but because what am I supposed to do, get into arguments with 15 different people? Arguments take up at least 5-10 minutes of cussing each other out so that would equal possibly over an hour and a half of lost time trying to get where I'm going lol.
But yeah please wear your mask. Even if you think you're invincible, for the sake of other people!

I wanted to continue what was started on the Hate crimes thread as Scumhunter brought up a good point at the end and I wanted to add on to it on this thread. Places like California though they are not perfect, they get a lot of backlash by small minded conservatives that think it’s a “Left Wing Paradise” or “it’s a socialist state”, and I think many people are duped when it comes to the tax codes and brackets as they think a place with higher taxes means higher taxes for everyone and that’s not the case, it’s only higher taxes from the rich and the news media sad to say but it’s the media mouth piece of the elites. The reason California is so expensive is because you have a lot of millionaires and billionaires from out of the country pay top dollar for properties and thus making it expensive overall for the rest, also the millionaires and billionaires from the U.S. are the ones that pay a lot in taxes in California compared to a working class person, which is the way it should be, but many of these guys head to Texas for lower taxes and yet demonize California. You also have the fact that many people leave California, but a lot of people are coming into California too. Vermont is another place, they pay a lot in taxes there, but it’s beautiful up there, I mean gorgeous scenery, and the quality of life is much better, however everyone is leaving Vermont because of higher taxes, but me personally, I would appreciate it if the rich paid their fair share in income taxes regardless of where they move to and I myself would be glad to pay my share of the income taxes, if we put that money to good use like say for example universal health care, and a universal basic income. They did try out universal basic income in Stockton, California and here is the article detailing the experiment. www.npr.org/2021/03/04/973653719/california-program-giving-500-no-strings-attached-stipends-pays-off-study-finds

Cool, good to know, there's a lot of lies about not being able to afford things because they want the lower and middle class tonight against themselves. They want the stock "why should someone at McDonald's make almost just as much as an EMT per hour" line instead of it being about people having a basic income to help in life.
This universal income thing is especially interesting to me because- at the moment at least- Andrew Yang is leading the polls the become the next Mayor of NYC and he's a huge proponent of it. Of course, the big question is will it work in NYC but hey I wouldn't mind having an extra 500 a month or whatever it is lol. (But I also wouldn't mind if people less fortunate than me were the main beneficiaries).

Though I didn't understand what he meant by 9-9-9 at the time, I remember around August of '011 when Herman Cain made a few short, fleeting waves in the '012 Republican Primary for proposing a system of flat taxes. But I feel like many political candidates' messages and platforms when it came to flat taxes impaired a lot of people's understanding of economic policies, particularly those who never got familiar with income brackets and marginal taxes.

I don't like to double post, but there was nowhere more fitting for this.
I can't believe the world's actually come to this, but... remember the fugitives we almost unanimously rounded out our top 3 most wanted of Two Double-O-Seven with? Alexis Flores, Robert Brent Bowman, and Paul Erven Jackson? Well, imagine similar crimes and M.O.s to them, combining elements of their cases, but then recorded on video and sold across the Dark Web for insanely rich prices. That's the very essence of what's recently been coined hurtcore. And it's barely even considered fringe anymore, because some prosecutors and FBI agents suspect that one Josh Duggar, the eldest son of reality TV stars (granted they're disgraced so it's not quite as far beneath their usual standards) Jim Bob and Michelle of 19 Kids And Counting infamy, could've been downloading, viewing, and trading hurtcore. One agent who's apparently investigated hundreds of child sexual abuse and child pornography cases easily classified some of the videos Josh traded among the top 5 worst he'd ever seen, and other agents are looking into whether he interacted with hurtcore videos at the times he said he was busy with computer work during hours when Josh's wife and kids weren't there. To add insult to injury, this case could've potentially flown under the radar if the Duggar family would've been non-denominational centrist Christians, but instead, they were from the IBLP, the Institute in Basic Life Principles, whose founder, Bill Gothard, got kicked out of on suspection of sexual misconduct of his own, and most of the Duggar family has publicly shamed LGBTs, non-submissive women, and occasionally even the majority of United Statish families who dared to have fewer rather than more children. That kind of hypocrisy has become a major sticking point in critique about extreme fundamentalism over the past decade or two, and many people want justice against, or revenge against, any combination of Jim Bob, Michelle, or the TLC network, for any combination of wielding political connections for evil, sweeping Josh's previous crimes under the rug and getting him off easy in previous decades, or using the social power of reality TV to glorify and/or normalize an extreme sect from beyond the pale of the Quiverfull movement as wholesome and ordinary devoutness. Hurtcore is so vile, in fact, that latent and inactive pedophiles absolutely loathe it, but if hurtcore is the future among fundamentalism's worst edges, especially if it or a similar sect wields any political power or social influence anywhere in the country, then part of the dystopian future I feared most, one of my top Boggarts, will come to pass; A lot of the public will be compelled to see some pedophiles, even if they're merely latent and inactive, as perhaps not proper allies at anything, but the enemy of our enemy. And even that much, is unthinkable. One perpetrator behind a hurtcore video has even shocked prosecutors in The Philippines so badly, that their government is coming under some pressure to reopen the country's death row, which had been shut down back in circa Two Double-O-Six.

This is going to sound like a u-turn but after a year I think we can now relax a little bit if you're vaccinated- I trust Dr. Fauci and the CDC and they say if you're vaccinated you can feel free to not wear a mask ourdoors or indoors with some exceptions (hospitals, public transportation you understandably still have to wear one for example). I do feel that if we're vaccinated, it is time we can start to get back to normal again. The only reason I still wear a mask is honestly there's still confusion as to where I can or can't- CVS no longer has a mask rule but Rite Aid does for example- so just to reduce confusion lol. I applaud all of us who were good soldiers before the news though.

I applaud all of us who were good soldiers before the news though. I’m still going to wear my mask as someone who is a smoker I’m at risk so I have my reasons for wearing one. As for being fully vaccinated it feels great now, but it comes at a cost and for me the biggest side effect of the second dose is chest pains along with muscle pains in the arms. Honestly this is also part of doing our part to ensure that this Pandemic can completely go away, granted I understand why masks will still be around and some people have their reasons for keeping theirs on that we may not understand so it all comes down to being considerate of others, so don’t harass other people who wear masks. As for the people that don’t wear masks..... there are people who are genuinely tired of the masks and then there are others who are careless and reckless, those that are careless and reckless, karma will catch up to them.... no sense in getting into arguments Scumhunter lol..... just know that it’s these exact people that will pay for it down the road.

After two long years, I will be leaving in a day or two to take a much needed vacation and the forum will be in the very capable hands of HeadMarshal for the week. While what usually happens is I can't help myself and drop by anyway, now more than ever, I feel like I really need a break entirely but we'll see how that goes lol. I expect everyone to be on their best behavior. P.S. I'm not coming back until the FBI adds someone to the top 10 list. J/K But I want to see if this works.
