This thread is to discuss FBI top tenner Fidel Urbina. Below is his AMW archived profile:
Windy City Cops Nab Rape Suspect, Judge Releases Him On Bond
Every city has its fair share of violent offenders and sexual deviants, and the Windy City is no different.
On the night of March 1, 1998, cops tell AMW that Chicago-area mechanic Fidel Urbina met a waitress at a south side bar. She needed a ride home, and her co-worker suggested Urbina would have no problem driving her.
When the waitress' shift was over, Urbina instead brought her to the auto body shop where he worked -- but it wasn't for a kiss goodnight.
Cops say that inside his garage, Urbina brutally raped her -- and his vicious attack didn't stop there.
"If that wasn't bad enough, he takes her in his car and then drives her to his home and again forces her into his residence," says Chicago Police Cold Case Detective Saul Del Rivero.
As the night progressed, Urbina continued the perverted sexual assault, leaving her battered, bruised, and fearing for her life.
She eventually escaped, and cops caught up with Urbina two days later, placing him under arrest. Urbina was charged with Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault and a judge set his trial date for Oct. 27, 1998, in Cook County Circuit Court.
The judge also ruled to let him remain out on bond as a free man until his trial began.
Tragically, police say that decision proved to have fatal consequences.
Days Before Trial, Alleged Rapist Accused Of Rape, Murder
On Oct. 20, 1998, just days before his trial was set to begin, cops say Urbina struck again.
The last time 22-year-old Gabriela Torres spoke to her family, she told them she had to take her car in to get the brakes fixed. After not hearing from her for some time, her family reported her missing to police.
But nothing could have prepared them for the horrifying news they would receive the following evening.
FBI agents investigating the case tell AMW that Gabriela suffered greatly through her final moments, all at the hands of Fidel Urbina.
First, authorities allege that he brutally raped, beat and strangled Gabriela to death inside his auto body shop before binding her lifeless body and stuffing it in the trunk of a stolen and "chopped" 1990 Chevy Lumina.
Then, according to police reports, Urbina enlisted the help of two men to push the car into a nearby alley. They moved aside as Urbina allegedly doused the vehicle with gasoline and lit it on fire. Cops found the Lumina moments later, completely torched and still smoldering.
"The scene was probably one of the worst scenes that I have seen," says Detective Del Rivero.
The two men who allegedly helped Urbina were seen running from the burning vehicle, and were later apprehended.
According to reports, neither of the men knew that the charred Chevy had become Gabriella's tomb.
Urbina fled the scene and has remained on the lam ever since.
More Than A Decade Later, Chi-Town Cops Still Seek 'Sex Killer'
The following year, on July 20, 1999, a federal arrest warrant was issued for Urbina, though it was believed that he had fled to Mexico in the wake of his alleged brutality.
More than seven years after the fact, on Aug. 26, 2006, a Mexican federal magistrate signed a provisional arrest warrant for Urbina.
This came after Cold Case Detectives with the Chicago Police Department learned he may be hiding out in the dangerous Ciudad Juarez, a border city plagued with criminals and gang members.
But yet again, Urbina managed to evade authorities.
After a decade of running from justice, the FBI and the CPD Cold Case Squad are determined to crank up the heat on the man they now refer to as a "sex killer."
"Fidel Urbina is -- I liken him to the devil. This is somebody that we do not want on the streets," says Detective Del Rivero.
Authorities Desperate To Locate Dangerous Fugitive
Fidel Urbina is an illegal alien and is known to use a variety of aliases, including Fernando Ramos, Fidel Bahena, Fidel Urbina Aquirre or Lorenzo Maes -- the last of which he used after he was initially picked up by police on the aggravated sexual assault charge in March of 1998.
He is thought to have family in Chicago, including a young son, or he may be hiding out in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico, which is only a stone's throw from El Paso, Texas.
While Urbina has no distinct tattoos, his right cheek is severely pock-marked.
He's known to take up work as an auto mechanic, and has a history of violence against women. Authorities warn that he's possibly armed and extremely dangerous.
Thoughts? In the FBI's statements after his addition , they seemed to be concentrating on the Juarez, Mexico area but said that he could go back to the Chicago area to visit relatives.
