Sad news today Michelle Obamas mother has passed away i offer my condolences to the Obama family Barack Obama I hope that God gives you and Michelle strength he will take care of her and hopefully over time are able to heal over time and I wanted to say this even though I don't say this very much but I do really think Obama is a good man and you know what I respect him a lot more than I have in the past he has managed to overcome a very interesting childhood situation and he rose to the occasion and he became the leader of the free world he was so many things he didn't have a free ride in his life he was middle class In that aspect I think he's a very unique president he was into basketball he grew up in Chicago and is still a major force there in his community he is a civil rights lawyer and a author in all honesty he kind of reminds me of bill Clinton in his middle class background and he did have a charisma about him but I hope you guys keep your strength and i have no doubt that she wsd proud of you Barack and Michelle

Guys I’ve tried to stay out of this thread but Trump is a fascist dictator who wants to be king (also a rapist and a murderer) and is friends with Putin and the like out to destroy the world. Biden isn’t perfect but he’s your only choice if you don’t want democracy to end. I also think Biden’s doing better than people give him credit for but it’s the media’s job to create headlines and manufacture controversy so of course they won’t acknowledge his accomplishments. But in general you shouldn’t find your candidate perfect. That is the difference between Biden and Trump supporters. You can find Biden imperfect but support him anyway. Trump on the other hand is supported by a cult. Just wanted to address this post from Scumhunter. It is now even more apparent that a second Trump term on office would turn the US into a fascist dictatorship. Anything Trump would do to his opponents, critics and groups he flat out does not like, he would end up getting away with. I really believe Biden should drop out of the race, but quite honestly, he’s too senile to realize he cannot beat Trump a second time.

I need to repeat myself- is Biden perfect no. And to be honest he seemed fine at his state of the union address but the debate showed a steep mental decline. If I had my druthers, I would rather replace Biden with Gretchen Whitmer. But once again Biden is the only one criticized for being old and senile while Trump is old, senile, a criminal a rapist and a wannabe dictator. I will vote for a guy too old to be President over a guy who wants to end democracy. I wish there were better choices and I don’t mean to sound hyperbolic but this will be the most consequential and important election in U.S. history. And as much as I hate the two party system it is vote Democrat or there will be a dictatorship. A protest RFK vote who is an anti vaccine nut job will just hand the election to Trump.
As for Biden’s chances, polls are more favorable to Trump but that is because a lot of these people answering landlines are more likely to be Trump voters. Polling is no longer an exact science as people like me and the younger generation don’t answer cell phone calls for unknown numbers.
Vote vote vote vote. Whether it is Biden or someone else on the Democratic ticket , Trump cannot be anywhere near the White House. We barely survived his last term, we won’t survive another one. Please do not 2016 this.

I don’t agree with President Trump on absolutely anything, but I also don’t condone todays events.
This is one of the main reasons why I have decided to not be affiliated with neither of these parties because of how polarized things have gotten and leads to eventual violence like this, regardless of which side it’s coming from, and all it’s going to cause now is make Trump a saint to his base and to undecided voters. This election cycle/year really is making itself be the most chaotic ever, with this attempt on Trump, and Biden not being 100%.
Moving onto the Democrats, I don’t think there’s much that can be done with President Biden, he’s become such a liability in recent weeks that I hope it becomes a brokered convention where someone else gets picked (Gavin Newsom) or Biden resigns the presidency like soon so Kamala Harris can have the incumbent favorability and it’s less baggage with regards to age. The problem isn’t, “Can Biden Win?” The problem is “Can Biden lead without any issues for the next 4 years?”.
Also if the Democrats take power in 2024, we need to start addressing the political polarization in a serious way, in a truly constructive way, by passing election reforms that allows third parties, independents, a chance to stand on the same ground as the Dems and GOP, giving voters more choices rather than the lesser of 2 evils, even if it means the Democrats give up the chances of winning going forward, but it’s to help our democracy and prevent it from going into the crapper. If the third parties were allowed to be on equal footing, it could potentially mean that the Republican Party and its hateful agenda will come in last place, and never win again either.
As of now I haven’t endorsed anyone, but if the Democrats replace Biden with Newsom or Harris, I’m all in to vote for the Dems. I’ll get back to everyone in early October on who I’d pick.
For now let’s process what happened today and hopefully both sides can learn to coexist, let cooler heads prevail, and hope it’ll be a wonderful new tomorrow.

I was going to reply to the Trump rally post but wanted to be respectful- since this is the more general discussion thread I wanted to say that while I think it's disugsting if either side wants to score political points off the shooting of Trump- the fact that Thomas Crooks was a registered Republican and apparently all his classmates described him as steadfastly conservative is confusing. So I wanted to say what my theory was. Trump is now trying to distance himself from project 2025- an extreme conservative platform about what the right wants to do if they take control of government in 2025- eliminating federal agencies- severely restricting abortions and getting rid of diversity programs while reinstating transgender in the military bans and other types of anit-LGBT actions- 912th mentioned it earlier in this thread. Alex Jones apparently turned on Trump over this. So this is just a theory but with nothing else to go on- I think perhaps Crooks was an extreme conservative actually upset at Trump as well over what he felt was his betraying the Project 2025 agenda. Of course, both sides will try to blame the other, but right now with nothing else to go it's the only theory I have. We'll say if the FBI finds anything, but unfortunately perhaps we may never know the actual motive.

Yeah every President has plots but Trump's is probably the closest to actually happening since Reagan.

Trump has picked JD Vance, an extreme MAGA Senator from Ohio, as his VP pick.
“Lil Marco” Rubio and South Dakota Governor Doug Burgum were a little less extreme.
I don’t condone it all but I’m glad Trump survived not only because violence is not the answer but the other reason is as crazy as Trump is- if he were dead it would mean someone even crazier- and competent- like Vance- would have taken his place as the nominee.
I am sorry for what happened but it also doesn’t make me still disagree with Trump and his policies any less.
I still urge everyone that this is not a “both sides are bad” election- one side is far more more extreme than the other.

Also forgot to mention Vance immediately jumped to conclusions and made a tweet blaming Democrats for Trump getting shot- even though it turned out the shooter was a registered Republican.

Just wanted to say that Shelia Jackson Lee has passed away after battling pancreatic cancer the long time congresswoman has had a pretty lengthy career and while she may not be as well known as Ruth Ginsberg or Dianne Feinstein I just wanted to say even though politically I didn't agree with them I did respect the fact that they did do a hell of a job fighting for the causes they believed in and I admire that and the did good things for their community my prayers are with them and there families
