Curious how we feel about Colin Powell. He did sort of redeem himself after 2008, but I am conflicted on his legacy since he was Secretary of State when the lies about WMDs and unnecessary war in Iraq happened. I still would have preferred if he became President over today's modern tea partiers, of course.

Huuuuge news as President Biden got his bipartisan infrastructure bill passed tonight which wasn't a guarantee since some of the more liberal members of congress wanted some concessions.
I also think it's a good thing Democrats underperformed this past Tuesday since Democratic voters tend to have this lazy habit of only voting in Presidential elections when in my opinion it is actually the midterms that are most important. A President can't do anything without a congress to back him up. This might be a weird analogy but it's sort of like only caring about the FBI's Top Ten list when there are fugitives just as dangerous not on any top lists and not paying attention to those as well lol. So maybe this past Tuesday will inspire people to get off their collective butts in 2022.
Ironically, I was discussing with my dad who voted for Biden and was disappointed in some aspects of his Presidency so far. And I told him that its actually a good thing since it shows how democracy works. You're not supposed to agree with or like everything the President says or does whether it's Bush Obama Clinton etc... No one is infallible and you can still like a President overall but disagree with some aspects or decisions. The problem with Trump is his Presidency became a cult where he became a perfect flawless human being and how dare anyone criticize him for anything.
And the midterms are important because Biden has the issue of having to deal with Joe Manchin and Kristen Synema who are DINOs (Democrats in Name Only) and slowing down some of his agenda.
I think Biden is overall doing a good job considering the circumstances and the mess he has to clean up. At the same time, I can understand those who are disappointed or think he's not cleaning up Trump's mess fast enough or not putting out the fire fast enough. But the solution is not to go back to the guy who started the fire in the first place- as that's absolute insanity.
The infrastructure bill is a good start. The party just needs to focus on 2022 instead of whining and in-fighting.

Interesting start to the new Mayor's term in NYC (Eric Adams). The month's not even half over and he's had to deal with a snow storm, a tragic apartment complex fire in the Bronx, and a callous case similar to some we have seen on AMW where a 19 year old was shot and killed during a robbery while working an overnight shift at Burger King, despite complying with their demands. Obviously he just started so none of the three especially mother nature are his fault, but so far it seems he's handled them well, and thankfully they caught the bastard that killed Kristal Bayron-Nieves. I don't think I've ever seen a Mayor have so many challenges thrown his way right off the bat (Bloomberg came in after 9/11 but it already happened) so I'm encouraged to see him look like a leader and promise changes to further prevent the tragedies in the Bronx and Harlem in the future, now he just needs to act on them.

Just wanted to share with everyone that starting this year I will be disconnecting with anything politics related as it’s become very toxic to discuss since 2016 and only having gotten worse over the course of this pandemic.
Despite me taking a step back from politics, I will continue to address racism, advocate for workers, universal health care and immigration reform as those are issues that I’m the most passionate about.
But I no longer want to discuss democrats or republicans as both parties are a bunch of snakes and don’t do anything for people who are just trying to get by, plus I don’t want to add anymore fuel to the partisan fire that has been present in America since 2016.

Tbh I sort of two but I do want to stress the upcoming midterms are important. Right now both parties suck but Democrats are the least crappy of the two, while the Republicans still need their come to Jesus moment and to denounce the tea party/former guy-ism. Also the Democrats are having difficulty because Joe Manchin and Kristen Synema are Democrats in name only and holding up a lot of legislation in the Senate. But like you I am worn out by politics and by people who don't understand politics affect their lives but act like it's a sporting event and frame it as "winning" and "losing" when it's so much more important than that. All the news networks are the same whether it be Fox News or CNN or MSNBC. They all want to scare you for ratings but they all also frame politics like they're football or basketball games and I don't really watch much cable news anymore (never watched Fox News anyway but all cable news). The irony is our favorite President claimed the cable news networks were against him when it actuality they loved him because he gave them ratings. But yeah politics has unfortunately sports and this side vs the other when people used to work together and understand this isn't just who gets to win elections, but how to best improve America. But yeah in the past year or so I've taken a breather myself, but I still think it's important to vote but to try to get your news from places like BBC or NPR which are more matter of fact one way or the other and straight forward news than like CNN or social media. I obviously still comment about politics here and there, but not at the same level I used to because of the unique threat to Democracy we had from 2016-2020.

Just wanted to state that I know I've been oddly silent considering the latest concerning international events, and then of course there's things going on in our own country- but as toptenhunter eluded to, I'm a bit politicked-out and exhausted from it all. That's not to say we shouldn't care- the midterms are important- but that if I engross myself in the news too much or read about things too much I'll be in a state of existential dread where I'll never get to sleep.
I know this might sound nihilistic of me when I consider myself an optimistic agnostic, but my feeling is whatever happens happens and I can't spend every waking second of the day worrying about things I have no control over. Maybe this naive or sleeping in the fire but when I get home, I just want to have a glass of wine, watch The Office or Schitt's Creek or a true crime show (I realize the irony of the content I'm watching) and not have to worry about the outside world.
We still need to care- we shouldn't be oblivious- fight when necessary- but we also need to not be in a constant state of panic.
Sorry if this is ominous but it was ominous on purpose lol.

Hope I explained. I am still monitoring all these concerning situations and have some vested personal interest reasons- it's really sad what's going on- just I want to try my best to also maintain sanity from all the sadness and insanity.

I am still monitoring all these concerning situations and have some vested personal interest reasons- it's really sad what's going on- just I want to try my best to also maintain sanity from all the sadness and insanity. I know I said I didn’t want to comment on politics, and I’m not, I won’t discuss anything related to domestic politics, rather I’m going to discuss what’s been going on, on the international stage Personally I’m very interested in anything that has to do with militaries, and this conflict has pretty much highlighted the struggle of the Ukrainian people not only in its current war with Russia, but it’s history at the hands of Russia. The way I see the whole thing, this is Vladimir Putin’s biggest miscalculation that could likely signify the beginning of the end of his regime, he’s reached the point of no return, and his military just can’t fight in Ukraine, as the spirit of the defenders will always prevail, we live in such a connected world today due to social media and all, that I doubt Russian army officers, and even the people of Russia want to fight with their Ukrainian brothers and sisters. We live in such a connected world that Russia is currently seen as a pariah because of its government’s actions, which I applaud, and I love how Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy went from comedian to a fearless wartime leader who didn’t flee, and chose to stick with his people during these dark times. In this current global situation, I stand with Ukraine. 🇺🇦

I'll admit it now. I have Ukrainian ancestry on one side of my family and the other half is Irish.
So it's like one of those things that I have to follow but I try not to think about too much if that makes sense.
Zelenskyy has been awesome so far though.
I concur with you toptenhunter.

Don’t know if anyone heard the news, but this week the FBI and Dept of State issued a $5,000,000 reward for former FBI Top Ten Fugitive Semion Mogilevich, which is surprising but given the current international situation, the timing makes it unsurprising.
The aspect of the Top Ten List, I had touched on in bud thread, but I think this move should’ve been done in 2009 rather than go through the trouble with adding him to the FBI list and subsequently removing him 6 years later and If I’m honest I’d rather have Rafael Caro-Quintero on the list than Semion Mogilevich, because RCQ is catchable or wound up dead.
However I wanted to touch on the political aspect, as right now it may be likely Mogilevich isn’t as safe as he once was due to the fact that Russia’s economy has taken such a heavy toll because idiots that run that country made a very bad move and underestimated worldwide unity and outrage.
I’m pretty sure even one of the oligarchs will give Semion up if things get worse in Russia, and if the conflict in Ukraine drags on, which I hope it ends soon because people don’t need to die because of a psychopath in Russia who has this fantasy of the past.

I'm getting really disturbed by the rhetoric informed by one Christine Pushaw, press secretary to autocratic Florida dictator Ron DeSantis, and one Chaya Raichik, cult leader of LibsOfTikTok. They're trying to prime their followers to think of everyone who saw through DeSantis' recent cis-het supremacist legislation, everyone who doesn't believe the Fundamentalist Church of Birth-Again's assertions about the supposed moral inferiority of LGBT-etc orientations and identities, and occasionally just people opposed to oligarchic rule by billionaire donors, as Dean Arthur Schwartzmiller clones. They've almost got their followers thinking of actual LGBT-etc people, especially school teachers, as Gordon Stewart Northcott clones. Many communities across affected states have devolved into doxxing, firings from jobs, killing threats, and the brink of terrorist takeovers. They're bringing about more cis-het supremacist legislative bills in right-wing states and more bigoted rhetoric from some of those same states' public officials and figureheads. Is there any better idea what can be done about this than letting millions of LGBT-etcs and their allies migrate into states not controlled by fundamentalism?

The Supreme Court, as expected, just overturned Roe V. Wade. I was talking with HeadMarshal about this site, and I doubt it will happen, but just in case, I would absolutely refuse to profile any woman or doctor wanted for having and/or performing an "illegal" abortion, since I believe in a woman's right to choose. (I am morally opposed to abortion and it shouldn't be used as a form of birth control, but I also opposed to women's bodies being regulated by the courts). However, because of how controversial any of the cases would be, I don't think there will be too many cases like that but what I feel what we have to worry about more are cases like Shadia Muse, where they kill their newborn after they're born, and it would be a tough situation to determine how much sympathy they should have if abortion wasn't an option.
We will just have to wait to see how things play out on this one.

Even though roe vs Wade was overturned I still think the republicans will take over the Senate and house I'm afraid but who knows maybe gas and inflation will go down and maybe we can have some compromise but Im not counting on it

Even though roe vs Wade was overturned I still think the republicans will take over the Senate and house I'm afraid but who knows maybe gas and inflation will go down and maybe we can have some compromise but Im not counting on it We'll see, but inflation and gas have absolutely nothing to do with Biden being in office but trickling down post-covid, gas companies gouging knowing we're going electric soon etc... It seems to be a history of Republican Presidents doing irreparable damage to the country, a Democrat gets elected to clean up the mess, and then people get mad at them for not cleaning up decades worth of messes in only a year. Honestly I only wanted to discuss the current ruling as far as site policy if the reversal actually ever gets implemented.
