Looks like Adams has maintained his lead in the NYC Mayoral race after new absentee ballot results after-all but the race is still not officially over.
I'm mainly just pissed at the NYC Board of Elections for their massive screw-up in the biggest city in the country (actually screw-ups since today they promised the results by "brunch" and then released them around 7 P.M. which is quite a late brunch) since it gives credence to the guy who I am no longer naming's claims that the election was stolen from him-. It wasn't, but their screw-ups couldn't have happened at a worse time.

I also wanted to mention Curtis Sliwa is the Republican nominee for Mayor. I actually have some respect for him as the founder of the Guardian Angels who helped patrol the subways and keep NYC safe in the 1980s (they were controversial as they were technically vigilantes and not cops but the city seemed to allow it and ironically Eric Adams was supportive of them as well), I also appreciate that he's not a orange guy who shall no longer be named butt-kisser but he feels like a relic of the 80s, maybe someone who should have been Mayor in the 1980s, and not the solution in today's world. He's also rather a one-trick pony imo. Crime is a big issue, but it's not the only issue, and Adams seems to grasp that despite being a former police captain.

Well I guess it was going to happen eventually but I've now lost a family member to the Trump tea party craziness- my own brother who has blocked me on Facebook and now refuses to speak to me. (My brother is one of those people who claims to not like Trump, just he doesn't like liberalism, yet everything out of his mouth is something Trump or a tea party person would say. Honestly it might be even worse than being a Trump supporter) Had what I thought was a polite and civil political discussion with him when he suddenly got nasty and ugly.
In fairness, me and my brother have never had the best relationship but it's still sad to see the Trump virus make an unhinged lunatic out of him. He then proceeded to insult me personally which is fine since it's the usual older brother trying to get over the younger brother's skin playbook but he crossed the line when he said it's not politics it's morals and tried to insult my value system. He apparently doesn't know I run this site where I've helped capture fugitives and find missing children. (My parents know but he doesn't).
In other political news, I want to be fair and say Andrew Cuomo absolutely needs to resign. I did not support his resignation a few months ago because I want to see the Attorney General investigation first. Now that it has been established they believe he did harass and potentially criminally harass women as well, he has no argument other than oddly showing montages of other politicians hugging people. What is frustrating though is how liberals hold their own members accountable, but the other party doesn't. Al Franken had to resign for hugging people (Cuomo report went way beyond hugging) but Trump has never been held accountable for actually admitting to p***y grabbing, Matt Gaetz has still not been held accountable for his underage sex scandal, Ted Cruz and others haven't been held accountable for inciting the riot at the capitol. Two wrongs don't make a right, but it is frustrating to see one party get punished for doing the right thing and holding their own accountable while the other party gets rewarded for not doing so and I hope that changes soon.
Also I think I've mentioned before but I actually voted for the most conservative of all the Democratic candidates for Mayor of NYC who also happened to be a former Republican and ex-cop. I know it's not the same for voting for an actual Republican, but I just wanted to use that as an example that I don't always vote for the radical progressive candidate and am a little more on the moderate side. I just wish this climate of us vs. them can finally calm down. I understand that's never going to fully happen, but at least for it to not be as bad as it's been the past five years. (Or honestly since 2008 when the racists came out and lost their sh** because a black man was elected President and started this spiral of the destruction of civil discourse).

And now Cuomo has resigned or will in two weeks (he has more groping to do j/k).
Absolutely deserved and two wrongs never make right, but now that one party is holding their own accountable, time for the other one to do so as well...

Absolutely deserved and two wrongs never make right, but now that one party is holding their own accountable, time for the other one to do so as well... I didn't give a (censored) that Cuomo was out of office, despite his popularity among Democratic Party aristocrats. But I was worried about who would replace him. I think her last name is either Hochul or Hoatul, something along that line. I don't know what her voting record was like, but I'm just hoping she's not Tea Party, Family Research Council, or Charles Koch aligned. All I know is, back in '010, the gubernatorial election was between Cuomo and one Carl Paladino. I don't know if anyone here knows enough about New Yorkish state political history to answer this, but do any of you know what Paladino was like or what direction he might've taken New York in if he would've won the '010 election?

Absolutely deserved and two wrongs never make right, but now that one party is holding their own accountable, time for the other one to do so as well... Honestly it’s good that they’re holding wealthy A holes like Andrew Cuomo and Roy Moore accountable or at least they get a good taste of their medicine knowing their reputation is down the toilet. I must admit that the Democrats do a better job at holdings those accountable when it comes to MeToo related issues. Off topic but as for my politics currently…. I have sorta shifted somewhat, while I am still left leaning, it’s just that I’ve come to the conclusion that both parties don’t really work in the interest of regular, working Americans. The only ones holding power in this country are the wealthy jerks at the top, and both parties put up this show in congress like they genuinely want to help working class people, when in reality all they do is sneak provisions into good legislation that screw regular Americans. In the end , I hope Andrew Cuomo’s victims, they get all the justice in the world and Andrew Cuomo deserves to go to jail or at least have his reputation tarnished for eternity.

Paladino was a tea party homophobe against gay marriage. New York is still a solid blue state. Paladino had no chance being way too far right in NY state. Pataki was a moderate Republican which is why he got elected here.
Hochul is fine. She's a moderate Democrat but not an ideologue to the left or right so I have hope for her as I think she'll be more focused on executing the job and is more of a pragmatic person as opposed to being too political.

Sorry I didn't reply to you sooner but the fact we are attempting to get out of Afghanistan- as messy as the media portrays it to be- is a sign we're not going to be war mongers anymore.

I want out of the wars and focus on infrastructure, Universal Health Care, Universal Basic Income and build a bigger middle class, an actual middle class. Covid exposed the weaknesses every country has and these wars are the reason health care isn’t great, and the stimulus checks could’ve been a lot more had we not wasted money nation building in the Middle East.
These politicians and media talking heads if they want war so much, maybe they should send their kids instead.

I just want to add so that I don't sound callous that I feel terrible for the local Afghan people- but this was sadly going to be the outcome no matter when we left- although we weren't expecting it to be this quick. The Afghan government had no interest in fighting back. Their own President fled the first minute he could. We can't keep playing world babysitter for countries that won't change- and the only thing we can do is lead by example- which unfortunately hasn't happened at all for pretty much this entire century- but it's never too late to start trying.
I actually applaud Joe Biden for having the balls to do what not even Obama was willing to do. (I still consider Obama the best President in my lifetime- but unlike Orange-guy sycophants I don't hero worship and don't 100 percent always agree with everything the people I vote for do- I'm still mad at Biden for still not canceling student loan debt and sitting on his hands with that- for example- that's how politics are supposed to work- you can generally like a politician but not defend everything they do).
Bush, Orange Guy, and even Obama didn't want to deal with the optics of what could happen because they didn't want to look bad politically. Biden knew it was finally time and the right thing to do, even if it could cost him re-election. In my opinion, it took courage and guts.
I do hope we can find out a way to help the Afghan refugees though.

Just wanted to state I'm relieved Gavinn Newsom has apparently survived the effort to recall him as California Governor, with an overwhelming majority to boot.
I am rather mystified at how the Governor who tried to do the right thing had to survive a recall election in the first place, and yet we have Texas Governor Greg Abbott essentially making it impossible for women to get abortions (for any reason), and Governor Ron DeSantis not allowing schools to implicate mask mandates and they're not the ones who had to. Although I should preface it by saying Texas and Florida do not have recall elections and only certain states have that ability in the books. But still even though it is a moot point, it's amazing.
I am still rather amazed at the ability of conservatives to make things political that shouldn't be political. Wearing a mask and getting a vaccine to reduce the spread of Covid-19 is scientific fact. Even former Cheeto-in-Chief encouraged a crowd he was speaking to to get the vaccine and they BOOED him! (I still don't give him credit because he started the distrust in science among his followers in the first place).
Global warming is another scientific fact- that like 99 percent of scientists believe the planet is getting warmer and there is severe climate change happening- somehow made political.
If you want to debate tax rates, there's no technical right or wrong, or even if there is, it's a conversation where both sides can use examples for their side or have a pleasant disagreement. If you want to debate how to handle crime, once again, no technical right or wrong.
Even abortion is a moral issue and an issue of even if you're morally opposed to it, being against it being regulated. But it's a moral and not science debate.
But science should not be up for debate! People are entitled to their own opinions and not their own facts.
Also, I wanted to be somewhat somber on 9/11's 20th anniversary but I read that more people died on September 10th, 2021 from Covid than people did on 9/11. Yet some people still want to act patriotic, while encouraging the deaths of their fellow Americans by spreading vaccine lies. 9/11 was a terrible day, I admittedly probably have lingering trauma from that day as well, but it's rather ironic us New Yorkers came together and are still an overall progressive city that doesn't hate immigrants, gets the vaccine etc... yet the same people that have never even stepped foot in New York City use 9/11 as an excuse to fuel their racism and ignorance when that the actual victims or witnesses of that day don't.
I'm still always a positive person, and although ever since 2016, it's been much more difficult, I still hold out hope for the future.
I'm hoping the failed recall of Gov. Newsom, which is a win for science and sanity (especially considering his main opponent was a batsh** crazy radio host of the MAGA crowd), and it is a step in the right direction.

I’m glad the recall in California against Gavin Newsom failed, because despite Newsom’s imperfections, he handled COVID the right way compared to Governors in Texas and Florida.
In Texas, with what’s gone on in recent weeks, they’re fixing to get flipped blue in 2022, or 2024, Texas has shown it’s more of a GOP Police State than small government IMO.
In Florida, the situation with Governor Ron DeCrapis isn’t going to get much better in terms of the pandemic, he’s basically playing politics, while kids in his state public schools are getting sick left and right and even more so without mask mandates.
