...continued from last autumn. Seeing the success on this forum with the Autumn 2013 Post-AMW Fugitive Face-Off, I dug up the contest I had running when the old AMW forums crashed back on 12-12-012. I will give 4 weeks for voters to refamiliarize themselves with the captures via the Old Captures Directory and get our bearings in general, or until enough people say they're ready to resume, then we'll pick up where we left off last autumn. The bracket has been kept safe all this time. Shortly after this concludes, I'll be planning a series of mini-contests divided by centuries of captures.

Here's the match-up that was in progress when the forums crashed on 12-12-012

Christopher Cornelius Goins and Monique Michelle Littlejohn, #325/#326, Nvb 17, 1994
The trouble started with a sexual relationship Goins was having with a 14 year old girl in Richmond, Virginia named Tamika Jones. Before long, he got her pregnant. In October 1994, someone tried to view the ultrasound images. In an attempt to cover it all up, he opened fire on the entire family. The girl's parents, her 7 month old fetus, and 3 of her younger siblings were killed in the bloodbath. The 14 year old girl and her youngest sibling were wounded. Monique Michelle Littlejohn (#326) was Goins' girlfriend at the time. She was a convicted drug dealer and forger charged as an accessory to the massacre for storing Goins' guns and ammo. They were both busted in a Brooklyn, New York apartment. Condemned to death in July 1995, Goins was executed in December of 2000.

Paul Michael Merhige, #1099, Jnr 2, 2010
A former honors student on the fringe of his family. On Thanksgiving 2009, he bought a small arsenal of firearms, then somehow gained invitation to his family's Thanksgiving dinner in Jupiter, Florida. After dinner, he shot and killed his two sisters, an unborn child and his aunt, and wounded 3 other people before killing a 6 1/2 year old girl in her bedroom. He spent just over a month on the US Marshals' 15 Most Wanted list. A tipster in a Long Key, Florida motel looked under a tarp his car was veiled under, matched the license plates, and busted Merhige trying to fake his suicide in the motel. He's since been sentenced to 7 life terms.

John Emil List, #50, Jne 1, 1989
A lawyer and accountant. In November 1971, he shot his wife, mother, and 3 teenage children to death in their crumbling 18 room mansion. In spring 1989, AMW hired Frank Bender to create an age-enhanced bust of what he might look like after more than 17 years. List was busted working as an accountant and attending church services in Richmond, Virginia. His appearance matched Bender's bust almost perfectly, glasses and all. Sentenced to life without parole, he died in March 2008.

Marvin Earl "Smash" Wooten, #376, Spt 3, 1995
He got into a gang shootout in North Carolina where a stray bullet killed a 7 year old girl in the crossfire during a birthday celebration. He was busted in Akron, Ohio.

I vote for Goins and Littlejohn. They had a death toll of 6 (counting the fetus, compared to Merhige's 5), 3 of the victims were children (as opposed to Merhige's 1), and the child sex element where he wiped out nearly her entire family to try and cover it up. Second, I obviously vote for John Emil List for his death toll of 5, plus Frank Bender's bust perfectly predicted what List would look like after 17.5 years.

I will give people up to 2 days to vote for this one, just in case anyone needs more time to get their bearings.

This one is easy for me.

Although Goins and Littlejohn are obviously terrible, Paul Merhige is my personal all-time favorite AMW capture! So yeah I'm going with a personal reason here, but it's not like he's not bad. I still vivdly remember the chase and the impromptu applause break I gave my computer screen when I learned he was caught. Alan Eugene White had been my previous favorite capture since he was my first as a weekly viewer.

Second is John List, who will probably win in a blowout.

Calvin Allen Bennett, #912, Nvb 19, 2006
For almost a year, he'd been hiding out in an elderly Arkansas couple's barn. In October 2006, he robbed and brutally murdered them, tied their bodies to a rope connected to the hitch of a truck, and dragged the bodies into the woods, disconnected them, and left the bodies to decay. Somehow he managed to steal their truck and make his getaway. On Nvb 18, 2006, he was aired on America's Most Wanted, and John Walsh made him the newest member of his Dirty Dozen list. In the fastest capture of a Walsh DD12 fugitive, an 18 year old college girl in Rothschild, Virginia had been dating him, saw the show, and busted him in the morning of Nvb 19. He's now serving life in prison without parole.

LaMont "Blake, L-Boogie" Davnielle Paris, #914, Dcb 9, 2006
A member of the Connecticut Boys assassin crew, hired by Giovanni "Chilli" Gayosso-Ruanova's drug business. In Detroit, Michigan, he had carried out about half a dozen hits. A minimum of 2 were dead, 1 was wounded, and 4 were unharmed. But most likely, he'd killed at least 5 people. He was busted in Belleville, Michigan, driving a female associate's car back to her house from the shop. The only high-ranking member of Ruanova's drug gang to be busted as a Direct Result capture, he was sentenced to 3/4 century in prison.

Kimberly Darlene Parker, #682, Spt 13, 2001
Her husband Dean was a notorious Detroit drug trafficker known for a docile demeanor. She laundered 900 Grand worth of Dean's drug revenues. They took their children on the run in March 1998. 3.5 years later, an employee in a Beverly Hills business office busted Darlene. From there, Dean's once calm demeanor exploded. He shot at every cop who passed by him for at least 3 weeks, then got killed in a police shootout as an empty capture.

David James Roberts, #1, Fbr 11, 1988
A master criminal out of Indiana and one of the FBI's Ten Most Wanted Fugitives. In 1974, he murdered a couple and blew up their home, leaving their baby to die of smoke inhalation. A few months later, he raped a woman and set down her infant son just outside of her car, leaving the little boy to die of cold air exposure. He was caught and condemned to death, then he got commuted to 6 life terms. In October 1986, he escaped from prison. He was busted working as a coordinator for a homeless shelter in Staten Island, New York. He's currently serving 6 life terms as before he escaped.

Despite L-Boogie's likely higher death toll, Calvin Allen Bennett was the fastest capture of an AMW Dirty Dozen fugitive, so I vote for him. And I obviously vote for David James Roberts for his death toll of 4, including 2 babies.

I vote for Calvin Allen Bennet since his two known victims were innocent people not involved in drugs.

Also, David James Roberts gets my obvious vote as well. As the first ever capture as well, he will likely go far in this contest.

In February 2009, he started demanding his paycheck from his boss in a Texas body shop. The argument quickly escalated, and Lopez shot and terminally wounded his boss. Law enforcement, body shop personnel, and of course his family, were hoping he'd recover eventually, but in April 2010, the victim died of a bullet-related infection. It was then that the charges were raised to capital murder. Alas, it would take almost 4 weeks before AMW would take credit for his capture.

In January 1988, in Utah, he broke into a woman's home. When her 19 year old daughter returned home from work, he murdered both of them using a knife, a ball-peen hammer, and a Pepsi bottle. He was added to the FBI's Ten Most Wanted list a few months later. And a few months after THAT, an AMW tipster busted him working as a handyman in Gulfport, Mississippi.

Jeffrey Linn Boston, #216, Jly 27, 1992
His father died in early April 1977, and the will said that the mother would inherit the money unless she died within 90 days later. Their son, Jeffrey Linn Boston, saw a cold-hearted opportunity when the last of the 90 days coincided with the Fourth of July. To claim the money for himself, he gathered 3 accomplices to shoot her to death with the pistol blasts "camouflaging" with the firework booms. Police quickly rounded up the accomplices, but Boston got away. That was until 15 years later, when he was busted in Florida

Daniel Robert "Slim" Campbell and Todd Wayne Mulder, #823/#861, Jnr 25 / Spt 16, 2005
The Unknown Jordan Allgood Killers. In November 2003, Campbell entered a rare coin dealership in Utah, tied up the dealer, a generous, charitable man named Jordan Allgood, and robbed the dealership, shooting Allgood dead. He was busted in Las Vegas after questioning. Then he gave up Todd Wayne Mulder's location: Mulder was serving time on other charges in another prison in Las Vegas. For his testimony and expressing remorse, Campbell got 5 years to life, and Mulder was sentenced to 3/4 century to life.

First, my vote goes to Steven Ray Stout for his higher casualty toll, and that he was on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted, and that he used a weapon as unusual as a Pepsi bottle. Second, I vote for Jeffrey Linn Boston in light of Daniel Robert Campbell's light sentence, and because Boston's case was more complex.

I vote for Stout and Campbell/Mulder.

Stout for being on the FBI's top 10 list. And despite Campbell's light sentence sometimes its necessary for that testimony to convict all parties. Plus it was an unknown case and those are always harder to solve.
