All I read is that he could face the death penalty but not that they'll actually seek it. Although I don't know why they wouldn't. Would be interesting to see if Yaser tried to make a plea deal for life instead- would show he's the ultimate coward.

Because father time could very well take him before the needle would.

There are times where a prosecutor is dead set against any deal and you'd think this would be a case so heinous they'd want to go full steam ahead, but in general because of taxpayer costs and court time usually the state wants to avoid a trial if they can help it no matter how open and shut a case is (as this one is in my opinion). It's sad that we care more about taxes than victims, but that's just the way it is. I'm happy either way. I'm going to be honest, for the entire time Yaser was on the run, I wanted blood, when I usually just hope for someone's uneventful capture. In superhero terms (not trying to compare myself and make it sound like I have a complex), I wasn't Batman wanting to capture the Joker and not kill him because of a moral code no matter how evil someone was, I was the Punisher wanting him to die a slow and torturous death in a hail of bullets. I wanted Yaser to just f-ing die. Which believe it or not is not how I usually feel and I usually take the Batman approach. But now that he's caught and I've had time to reflect, while I'd certainly rejoice and you know what on Yaser's grave, death might be too easy on him so I'd be happy with life as well.

Here are all the happenings in Yaser's case. It doesn't look like it shows future dates though. The one thing that concerns me is how has none of this been recorded or even reported on? Usually, arraignments are always video taped. Sometimes live-streamed. There are so many defendants lately that are plastered on TV the moment they enter a court room, yet these judicially significant court dates aren't being recorded or even reported on? I would think most journalists would be tweeting or something. At least his first court appearance should have been taped or photographed. Let's hope this is not a trend as the world needs to see what this murdering waste-of-humanity did to his own flesh and blood and show that America will not accept his or his family member's philosophy. I want to know what Yaser's defense is going to be and I want to see his evil "I'm sorry I got caught" face in prison outfit. I haven't found anything about intent to seek the death penalty but the prosecution should assert that soon. At any rate, here are some court documents some may be interested in: Motion for Discovery (9-9-2020)Pre-Trial Motions (9-8-2020)Bond Findings – DENIED (8-28-2020)Arraignment (8-28-2020)

A lot depends on the rules judges set.
I think Judge Ito basically set a precedent, for better or worse, when he allowed cameras in the courtroom for the O.J. Simpson and that soon became the expectation rather than the norm for high publicity trials and it set sort of an unrealistic expectation that every trial from there on out was going to be an open book of information. And one can argue that backfired considering the outcome.
Yaser isn't as "famous" as O.J. but this is and will be a high-publicity legal proceeding where the judges and even attorneys themselves may have their own reasons for what they want to be allowed to be reported on as it is a sensitive case.
I'm sure the trial itself- if there is one- will be well-reported on as well as any possible plea deals to avoid the death penalty will be well-reported on.
I'm just going to be happy when justice is finally served and not worry about what's made public in court for the time being.

I hope he gets every day of that 30 years. I will never, ever understand the mentality some folks(but not all) in certain cultures have that it is okay to do what Yaser did and that you will still have support from your family afterwards.

And as someone who was concerned that Yaser, a pedophile, was setting his sights on more young girls, I also hope Islam gets all that.

Unfortunately when one does a guilty plea it usually means a lighter sentence but in this case I'm hoping for no mercy. Islam shouldn't get credit for admitting he was caught red-handed.

You're right. I just hope whomever the judge isn't going to give him kudos for doing the smart thing for once in his life.

I wouldn't actually be surprised if he gets probation (it's only a possibility: I am not saying that would happen). If he's pleading guilty, especially this quickly, it likely means the Prosecutor cut him a deal of some sort in exchange for his testimony.

Unfortunately I wouldn't be surprised either. I'm just hoping he's not given a puff sentence.

Unfortunately I wouldn't be surprised either. I'm just hoping he's not given a puff sentence. If he doesn't have a criminal history, he may just end up with probation, but usually (not always) the Judge isn't bound to sentence to what the parties are recommending.

I fully understand. I just *hope* he isn't given a light sentence.
