Who to call if you've seen him: Ohio State Highway Patrol at 614-677-2792 or e-mail wwwohp@dps.state.oh.us or US Marshals (Who are offering a $15,000 reward) at 1-866-4WANTED (1-866-492-6833)UPDATE: As of January 14th, 2020 anyone with information on this fugitive's whereabouts can also call or text "In Pursuit" on the Investigation Discovery channel at 833-378-7783 and/or submit a tip at the show's website: www.InPursuitTips.comUPDATE #2: As of March 29th, 2021, anyone with information on this fugitive's whereabouts can also call "America's Most Wanted" at 1-833-3-AMW-TIPS and/or submit a tip online at amwtips.com. "Lester Eubanks is wanted for escaping from jail. On May 25, 1966, Eubanks was convicted of murdering a teenage girl during an attempted rape in Mansfield, Ohio. Eubanks shot the victim twice. He then returned to the victim's location and smashed her skull with a brick. At the time of the offense, Eubanks was on bail for another attempted rape. On December 7, 1973, Eubanks walked away from an honor assignment from the Ohio Correctional Center in Columbus, Ohio. Reportedly, Eubanks was taken to a shopping center in the south end of Columbus and dropped off to go Christmas shopping by prison officials. Eubanks failed to return to his scheduled pick-up point and was reported by prison officials as a "walkaway." Eubanks had been sentenced to death in the electric chair, and after three unsuccessful appeals, his death sentence was commuted to life in prison. This was due to a 1972 Supreme Court decision that ruled the death penalty unconstitutional. An arrest warrant was issued for Lester Edward Eubanks by the Court of Common Pleas, Franklin County, state of Ohio, for escape from confinement. Additionally, on March 1, 1996, a federal arrest warrant was issued by the United States District Court, Southern District of Ohio, after Eubanks was charged with unlawful flight to avoid confinement." Thoughts? The above was the FBI's archived profile for Lester Edward Eubanks, who is no longer on their website. According to a long-time AMW viewer who e-mailed us, Eubanks has aired on the show. Although I am surprised his case doesn't seem to have received as much attention on the show as other cold case prison escapees. Despite the passage of time, I believe that whether Eubanks is dead or alive, this is a solvable case, and it is still possible he is alive considering 71 is not that old nowadays. (Heck, that's only 2 years older than John Walsh!) Although the FBI no longer has Eubanks listed, the Ohio DRC (Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections) Most Wanted website still lists Eubanks as an active case as of this posting date (10/11/2015). It's the only reason I put their number for tipsters since I'm not sure if the FBI is handling this case anymore. www2.fbi.gov/wanted/fugitives/vc/murders/eubanks_le.htmwww.drc.state.oh.us/web/wanted.htm (Scroll down or hit ctrl + f to find Eubanks) UPDATE: As of July 27th, 2018, Eubanks is still listed on the U.S. Marshals website as one of their most wanted fugitives out of the Northern District of Ohio: www.usmarshals.gov/district/oh-n/fugitives/ Admin Note: If you have any news-related updates on this case, please contact us here: amwfans.com/thread/1662/website-contact-form

This was a very memorable case for me as a kid since it was in northeast Ohio and not many cases were. I remember the murdered girl's sister was interviewed and the reenactment showed the two at a laundromat when the guy first spotted the one he murdered. When did this case air? I want to say it was in the mid to late 90's.

Hi hrlovinstuff, welcome to the forum! I e-mailed you as well via the contact form. But in summary, a guy who contacts the site anonymously who watched AMW from 1988 until it's demise sent us a list of fugitives he felt were still at large that he kept from the show. Sorry for referring in third person, but I would like to ask Machete (his nickname on the contact form) if he's reading this if he knows the exact date and episode or at least the time frame if he could please e-mail us. Hopefully we'll get somewhere but if you feel you vaguely recalled him being aired in the mid-late 90's, then it's probably in the ballpark.

The girl's name was Mary Ellen Deener, 14. This happened on November 14, 1965. Her younger sister Brenda was the one with her at the laundromat and was interviewed by AMW. The grandmother lived two doors down and went to look for her after Brenda came home and said Mary didn't come back. Mary had left Brenda at the laundromat to get more change and walked down the street to another laundromat to get it. Thats when Lester saw her and attempted to drag her behind a house and rape her. She screamed and he panicked. He then came back later and smashed her head with a brick to make sure she was dead. Lester apparently lived around the corner from the laundromat. This is according to his confession and news clippings from the Mansfield paper around that time.

Great, I hope he does. Time flies though so it may have been earlier. I thought the story on Bizzy Bone (Brian McCane)from Bone Thugs N' Harmony in Cleveland being kidnapped and molested as a child was fairly recent. Turns out it aired back in 2002. I'm positive Lester Eubanks case was before that. Hopefully the guy knows what episode and when. I would like to try to find and watch it. Thanks!

I hate to be negative but AMW episodes are extremely hard to get a hold of, especially old ones, and we've unfortunately had to tell many people that. It's the way Fox ran the show and their copyrights and such I think. Towards the end, the show would be available on Hulu the week afterwards and that was it. It's pretty much YouTube and Vimeo now and not much AMW elsewhere. However, I hope against all odds you track down the episode.

No big deal, I see how tough it is to find old episodes. Dont worry about being negative, I see what your saying.

Even episode lists dont seem to work. Tv.com. starts listing seasons and episodes at season 15 to 25. Well, thanks for your response at least. I appreciate it.

Sure, also, it's a long-shot but perhaps maybe contact one of those people that upload the YouTube videos and maybe they'll have a few ideas. But yeah no problem.

So far no word from the guy. He only communicates via prompts from the forum and seems to have fallen off the face of the Earth lately. But yeah, I am glad to know not everyone has forgotten this case and I hope somehow it can one day be solved. I don't understand why AMW never aired it again considering he's apparently still at large and they've aired other cold cases before.

Especially since as of the early 90s we knew where he was and was still alive. Speaking of knowing where he is, here is the obituary for his father from 2012. It says he is still alive and living in Columbus. It also says he has siblings who are still living. I wonder if they know where he is: MANSFIELD: Rev. Mose L. EUBANKS, 89, died Monday, March 26, 2012 in MedCentral Mansfield Hospital after a brief illness. Rev. Eubanks was born on Friday, June 23, 1922 to the late Mose and Littie Critchfield Eubanks, Sr. in Blairsville, Pennsylvania.(Indiana County) He had lived in Mansfield, Ohio (Richland County) the past 85 years. He was a veteran of the US Army serving during World War II, self-employed contractor and owner of Eubanks Masonry. A member of the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, where his heart remained, but he answered a calling from the Lord to become the pastor at First Baptist Church of Crestline where he labored until he retired in 2010. He believed in learning and teaching and at the age of 84, Rev. Eubanks received his Associates Degree in Pastoral Ministry from Master's International School of Divinity in Evansville, Indiana. Mose is survived by 3 daughters: Diana Burroughs, Columbus, Ohio, Bonita (Jerome) Morgan, Jacksonville, North Carolina, and Marian Sanders, Bremerton, Washington; 4 sons: Clarence "Butch" and "LESTER EUBANKS", Columbus, Chris (Sheila) Brindle of Tacoma, Washington, John Eubanks of Atlanta, 22 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, and a very special and dear friend: Dan Barnhill, Mansfield.

A rebroadcast was done several months later. It was run for a second time on January 14, 1995.
