I never understood why he was added in the first place considering there was no chance the Russian government was ever going to turn him over to the U.S. Glad they finally took him off but the time they wasted having him on there could have been used for other fugitives.

Given how close he came to being caught several times already, I'm shocked that he hasn't been found yet. Hopefully with him being on this list he will be found.

Thank you for the welcome! Hope to become an active member and interact with fellow AMW fans about past and current cases. As for Roman, I wish I could say that I'm shocked over the Columbian government's refusal to extradite him but let's face it, here in the U.S., the punishment in so many places for drunk drivers who maim or kill is a joke. Not to mention the excuses made for the perps that will NEVER happen in other kinds of violent crime. Kill someone with a gun or stab them, go to prison for life or the chair. Have a few drinks and then maim or kill someone with your car, you are a "good" person who deserves a few days in jail or probation at best as it's no big deal. It's still not acknowledged as the violent crime it is here, no surprise Columbia and other countries will have the same viewpoints. I guess what bothers me about this case isn't just the fact that Janelle Hail's family and friends are unlikely to get justice for her unless Roman decides to grow a conscience and turns himself in (not likely to happen.) It's (as you said) the fact that he is posting photos showing he is living his life without a second thought to what's he done. He does appear to care about his family and friends but clearly doesn't give a darn about Janelle's loved ones. And neither do his family and friends who post on his page. His friends from the U.S. and other places talk about hoping to be able to visit him someday (including someone in the Navy!) and how they miss him and remember the good old days in Florida or how amazing their visit with him was and hope they hope to do it again soon and his family has made posts stating how proud they are of the hardships he has overcome, with no mention at all of his victims. Clearly the fact he killed someone is no big deal to them. I have no doubt they would be singing a different tune if it was their loved ones maimed or killed but I won't wish that, even on Roman. As you said, what an infuriating update, one that hopefully won't happen very often.

Just wanted to post an update. There is news on this case and none of it is good. Unlike Chris Ponce (I hope he's caught soon), police know exactly where Roman is at. But as this link from the Naples Daily News shows, longform.naplesnews.com/freetoflee. , he won't be facing justice anytime soon. After he was located in Columbia, a request was made back in 2009 to extradite him. And the response of the Columbian government was a big fat no. If he had been charged with a drug crime, he would have been on a plane before he could have blinked. Drug crimes in the eyes of the Columbian government, bad. Driving drunk and killing someone? Not so bad. As it stands now, unless the Columbian government changes it mind (highly unlikely at this point) Roman is free to continue to spend time with his family and friends, enjoy time on the beach and party it up , and share his thoughts on U.S. Politics or crack jokes on his Facebook page and there is nothing Florida police can do about it unless he chooses to leave the country. And as he states in one message to a friend on there that asked him about visiting Singapore, that isn't going to happen as he knows he'll be arrested the minute he leaves and tries to go someplace else. It's disgusting that he's going to get away with what he did to Janelle Hail, it truly is.
