Just wanted to say my thoughts are with those affected by the Vegas shooting.
Police say not currently looking for any active shooters right now (one believed shooter dead).
20 people reported dead so far but unfortunately number could get worse.
2016 was a pretty rough year for society but apparently it was just the warm-up act for 2017.

Now looking for suspects roommate named Marylou Danley.
Some people are posting a picture claiming it's her but I want to hold off until that's confirmed.
Should be stressed Danley may be innocent or even a victim but she's also a person of interest.
It's late now and I may fall askeep but if more info is compiled to make a thread later anyone else can feel free to do so.

As someone who works in the travel and tourism industry, chances are you'll never encounter a horrible tragedy like this, but I advise everyone to watch their back just to make sure nothing happens to you (whether it be a shooting or even a robbery). Over the past several years this is largely limited to deranged gunmen in the United States, but this has extended to ISIS/Middle East inspired terrorism in mostly Europe. The motives in the US are different of course and it's up to the US to come up with a solution, just like Europe has to as well

The thing here is it seems a complete mystery as to Stephen Paddock's motviation. ISIS is claiming he's one of theirs and was radicalized but there's no proof of that. ISIS always seems to claim responsibility for tragedies. Sometimes it is them but often it isn't. While it's important to not live in fear we also need to do more. Many people mock when people offer thoughts and prayers in tragedies. I have no problem with offering prayers or anything to help comfort and solace the loved ones of the victims of these tragedies. The problem is prayers alone don't solve the problem. Legislative action does

Wow this is just nuts. It seems despite their father, the Paddock family was relatively normal and not like him. Eric seemed genuinely in shock and dumbfounded at what his brother did last night.
We seem to often forget often the family of the shooters in these situations are victims as well and I feel terrible for Eric and others in the Paddock family that are also probably in shock as well.
Still so many more questions than answers, but at least it does give some kind of background in that even though Stephen himself had a clean record, there is a family history at least.

I guess Paddocks father will be on the same level of notoriety as Whitey and Osama on the Top ten now.
But my prayers go out to those affected, this is a another example of a senseless act of violence that seems to plague society nowadays.
Guys we really need gun control, even if the person had no significant criminal record, we need to make it extremely difficult for anyone to get a firearm, and this tragedy changed my opinion as I used to be very libertarian about this issue but honestly I’m sick of this s**t, all that ever happens is mass shooting after mass shooting and politicians just want to score points or just drag their feet.
Every time this happens Gun Control comes up and most tend to ignore it, but now that this has become the DEADLIEST SHOOTING in the U.S. this issue needs to be discussed now, we need to change the laws and make getting a firearm extremely difficult for everyone whether your a criminal or clean.
More importantly we don’t need weapons specifically used for battlefields on the streets of the United States, this is what sickens me the most, why did this a**hole need to own automatic weapons for? Was he going hunting? No he murdered 58 people.

Not only is the 1st world, as a whole, stumped on how to foil these atrocities or slow down the overall mortality rate, but those people who know how imordinately loose our regulations on military weaponry are can't beat the gun manufacturer lobbies, and many more who don't know how different types of guns are classified can't figure out how to tailor the legislation to prevent any semantic loopholes. There are various arguments that certain guns that fit the stereotypes of assault guns, such as magazine capacity, size and mass, and firing speed, are NOT assault weapons, and thus an assault weapons ban would do nothing to mitigate the crisis. The message I get from the biggest gun manufacturing shills is that I should own a gun anyway, even when I don't want to, because some bad guy will strike me at random, it'll turn out to be destiny, and there's no other way to spare my life but to beat a robber-murderer to the trigger. And if I would be too much of a threat to myself and others with a gun, too bad, I'm just seen as one of the "bad guys with a gun", and if I'm done away with, it probably serves me right and spares some other innocent victim out there by default. They always get me, and I never have a counter-argument to justify my own existence to them.

Rescinding my comments from earlier after I’ve cooled down a bit. I think some assault weapons need to be banned, but not all, because at the end of the day it’s all about the individual that grabs a firearm and what they’ve got going on in their mind, what their situation is.
I mean we as sleuths see this on a daily when we post cases and a good example of an individual up to no good and grabbing a firearm is Jason Derek Brown, he went and bought a handgun as part of a plan to murder someone for cash since he was in a bad situation. So I’m rescinding my comments from earlier and saying it’s not entirely firearms, but the individual who doesn’t have good intentions.

The weird thing is from what I read Paddock was mainly wanted for bank robberies. If someone had to guess a fugitive from the FBI's Top 10 list in the 70's whose son would become the worst mass murderer in U.S. history, Benjamin Paddock might not even be in the first five guesses compared to others.

I do want to say though this was also not just a mass murder but also a terrorist attack imo. Stephen Paddock was white but what does it matter? His goal was to terrorize regardless of what his motive was and I'm sick of the hypocrisy.
Obviously terrorism should be taken seriously. But let's not sugar coat the word when it conveniences us.

So according to media reports, Paddock may have actually been planning to escape but only killed himself because police closed in on him. Also, him having an accomplice cannot be ruled out.
If the FBI makes an official investigation page I'll make a thread "Las Vegas Shooting Investigation" and put it in the Unsolved on TV section (since obviously this has been all over tv, crime shows or otherwise).
For the time being I want to wait until they do though.
