"A gasoline can was found in the vehicle's front seat, but the cause of the fire has not been determined, LaBarbera said." Uhhhhhh, dur, you think it might have been arson, especially since they were robbed and killed? Thanks for finding that as well! I can confirm that this unsolved murder has since become a wanted fugitive case. I'm guessing shortly after the episode aired, Hilario Sierra was identified as the killer. I noticed because in both the unsolved murder and fugitive cases, the victims were found under Los Angeles's Harbor Freeway. Unfortunately Hilario Sierra is still at large. amwfans.com/thread/557/hilario-sierra-california-1998www.lapdonline.org/all_most_wanted/most_wanted_view/12730

partial 1998 episode (aired week after the last one I reviewed), 521 fugitives caught to date
Captured: John Grub - Bank robber from last week captured.
Jimmy Lawson - Is wanted for murdering Cheryl Ann Durkin, who used a chainsaw to cut off her head, arms and legs. His mother buried parts of her body in two different states and was arrested. Mother now pleading for son to turn himself in.
Ryan Harris - Update to this case of a Chicago girl who was murdered. 2 boys (one 7, one 8) were arrested, becoming the youngest people in the country to ever become murder defendants (?!?!), but thankfully released after it was proven they didn't do it. Search for real killer continues. (Some of the details of this crime are so horrific, I don't feel comfortable mentioning them here.) (Relatives Floyd and Eddie Durr were eventually tied to the crime and both are behind bars. Ironically, one of the boys would go to be convicted of a different crime. Sadly, Ryan's cousin Shaneda Lawrence was also killed, in a park named after Ryan while attending a family funeral no less).
"South Florida Rapist" - Searching for a white man who has sexually assaulted three black girls in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Identity unknown.
And on that note, I believe that is the last of the 98 episodes and that is a blessing in disguise because if Eric Rudolph or Alan Golder popped up one more time, my head was liable to explode. I believe the next ones that are going to be reviewed are a bunch of 1999 ones and possibly a 2000.

There's been a few Florida serial rapists profiled on AMW unfortunately so I think I'll just wait for HeadMarshal or Pakman since I don't want to update the wrong case. I'm wondering if this case is Nick Stoumbelis. He was profiled in 1998 and his case was the first time FACES led to the arrest of a suspect. AMW commissioned FACES, a digital composite company, to create a composite of the suspect. AMW used FACES for years after this, but I heard once awhile back that most police agencies hate the technology because it taints the memories of the victims. Basically they have the victim there as they're constructing the composite, and sometimes it makes the victim second-guess what they remember. Here's a story on Stoumbelis' capture: articles.sun-sentinel.com/1998-10-31/news/9810300885_1_detectives-police-reports-childrenThe Ryan Harris case (which I have vague memories of, being from the Chicago area) was apparently solved following a "no contest" plea, but many have their doubts that Floyd Durr, who made the plea, actually did it. Here's a 2006 article about the case: www.chicagoreader.com/chicago/who-killed-ryan-harris/Content?oid=923436

Yes Pakman, I'm sure it's Nick Stoumbelis since everything seems to fit. And FACES was featured heavily in the segment.
I read part of that article on Ryan Harris (not the whole thing since it's very long). It seems sympathetic to Floyd Durr, who has sexually assaulted numerous girls. In my mind, there is no mystery, he is responsible. He had a history of doing that sort of thing, DNA linked him to the crime and he entered a "no contest" plea. I really do not think young boys could have been responsible for such a vicious murder.
It seems some were trying to argue he was not the killer because of the possibility that he masturbated near her corpse (which he said he did do), but left and the boys killed her. That is ridiculous. So he found her dead, masturbated near her but elected not to tell the authorities?

December 18, 1999 (594 fugitives caught to date, last show of the 90's)
Captured: Ronald Fleming - Michigan child molester of young boys caught in Chicago during first week of December, 1999.
Captured: Robert Bryant - Last remaining member of quartet wanted for sextuple murder in Baltimore was captured (was profiled on previous week's show)
Miguel Rangel - Is wanted for shooting his girlfriend to death in front of their 6 year old son.
Captured: Kathleen Soliah - Member of SLA who committed many crimes in the early 70's such as the kidnapping of Patty Hearst, numerous bank robberies and the murder of an innocent bystander has finally been apprehended. She is selling copies of her cookbook in an attempt to raise money for her defense. Still looking for her boyfriend James Kilgore.
Alvaro Jara - Gang member wanted for the murder of a young boy.
Timothy Mobly - 26 year old man wanted for prolonged, brutal rapes (he placed one victim in the trunk of a car, then a suitcase).
Update: Evans (first name not revealed?) - Child molester committed suicide while on the run, his three young kids have turned up safely.
Xiana Fairchild - Girl from Vallejo, CA is missing. (Her remains turned up a little over a year later. In 2005, Curtis Dean Anderson pleaded guilty to her kidnapping, rape and murder. He was already serving a 251 year sentence for sexually assaulting another girl from the same city and may have more victims. It is near impossible he will ever get out of prison).
Eric Quesada - Wanted for killing a teenager and shooting at three other teens.
Ernesto Hernandez & Erica Ariano - Wisconsin couple wanted for abusing their young child to death. A police officer stopped them as they were walking along the interstate in the middle of the night in Michigan, but let them go after they gave him false identities.
AMW off for the next two weeks because of the holidays.
Also, about half of the 12/11/99 episode preceded this on the disc. However, it was mostly repeat segments, and that also includes most of the missing half (which I can tell from the rundown at the tail-end of the episode). The only ones that appeared new to me were the following:
Pedro Santa-Ana - Wanted for slitting his girlfriend's throat and fleeing the scene.
William Zepeda - Wanted for double murder near Atlanta, GA.

- Steven Nanoo was arrested in New York shortly after his airing. Despite an article saying it was because of AMW, it was an indirect capture. jacksonville.com/tu-online/apnews/stories/061803/D7RO7KQ00.html- Marvin Mercado was arrested in the Philippines in 2006 I believe. He has since been sentenced to eight consecutive life sentences for eight murders. - Mario Betancourt was arrested in Mexico in 2001. It took three years however to get him extradited back to Florida. - Tito Dominugez was arrested in Mexico in 2002. - Jesus Salazar is still at large. He was given a much larger profile in 2010. amwfans.com/thread/174/jesus-salazar-texas-1999

Timothy Mobly was apprehended not long afterwards. He jumped bail, was caught again, then put on 5 million dollars bail, then sentenced to 3 consecutive life terms, so he is probably never getting out. He committed his crimes in Sparks, NV and had fled to Mexico.

Btw, it sounds like Timothy Mobly was an indirect capture. I'm not good at determining those things, but the tipster got suspicious of his frequent violent sex talk, went to the FBI's website and saw his picture there and phoned the authorities.
