Bizarre update here- a woman is claiming on social media that Hiers is teaching English in China (well liked by students, tall and handsome etc..), and was a bodyguard for an unnamed star there, recognized him from the U.S. Marshals site and is definitely him- despite this not being officially confirmed, many users of Weibo (which apparently seems to be some sort of blogging/social media site) in China are seemingly convinced this is Hiers and outraged at the unnamed school letting a wanted fugitive become a teacher. English teacher in a foreign country seems to be a common occupation among fugitives and was the occupation of a few AMW fugitive captures in the past, so imo this isn't outside the realm of possibility and I wouldn't be surprised if this turns out to actually be true. But for now it's just a potential lead. shanghai.ist/2018/09/10/woman-says-she-recognizes-her-former-english-teacher-in-china-on-us-marshals-most-wanted-list/If this is true and I agree this hasn't been confirmed but needs to be looked at as a lead, I guess the question every single poster here will be asking is "how likely would China extradite Dan Hiers back to the US"? Some of us will remember how it took Kenneth Freeman to travel from China to Hong Kong before he could become a direct capture. I'm also not going to be surprised if this turns out to be true, since it is a logical occupation for a fugitive on the run in a foreign country and it would explain why this manhunt has gone on for 13 years.

Yeah, we might have another Ira Einhorn situation on our hands if this lead turns true. Or ironically, more like Claudia Hoerig, since she was simply located in Brazil but not arrested before she finally was after years of legal drama and sent back.

former FBI domestic terrorist and Eco terrorist Justin Solondz was arrested in China in 2009 and was sentenced to 3 years there for manufacturing drugs there, and was deported to the U.S. in 2012. This would be big if true since I didn’t expect he’d be located in China of all places, and it would be the Marshals second long timer captured in less than a month. Assuming that it is Hiers and hasn’t committed any additional crimes since, I feel like he’d be brought back ASAP from China. Below is a link about Justin Solondz. archives.fbi.gov/archives/seattle/press-releases/2012/last-defendant-arrested-in-uw-horticulture-center-arson-sentenced-to-prison

Nothing would really surprise me with Hiers considering he's been on the run over a dozen years.
We'll see what happens if it turns out he's actually in China.

A couple new articles: -The man the woman claims is Hiers was known as the campus playboy for dating and pursuing female students. -The woman accuses the man she says is Hiers of sexually harassing her friend and sending her pornographic images after he was turned down by her. -China seems to have a history of hiring foreign fugitives in its' schools and is criticized in the first article for not doing proper background searches. Another problem seems to be the fact there is no formal extradition treaty between China, the U.S., Canada, or Australia. www.globaltimes.cn/content/1119351.shtmlnextshark.com/daniel-william-most-wanted-china/

Also, from what I'm looking up it seems the best way to get back Hiers from China (if he's there) is not for his alleged crimes in America but if his passport was cancelled (I'm assuming it was already), which would mean he'd now be in their country illegally.

This is wonderful news that he has been captured, and I knew the China lead was solid.

Well that sure was quick after we got the news story on the lead 10 days ago! Obviously really amazing news as Dan Hiers was among the most frequently profiled fugitives in AMW history, and now soon (depending on how long extradition takes) he can finally face a court of law in South Carolina for the charges that he's been avoiding the past 13 years. I thank all the investigators and tipsters for not giving up on this manhunt, and especially authorities in China for hopefully getting this alleged piece of trash out of their country soon.

Wow! Looking forward to seeing new pictures of him, as he wasn’t a guy I could perfectly envision as he aged

It also leaves Bablu Hassan, Yaser Abdel Said, and Jose Fernando Corona as the 3 last remaining Walsh Year-End #1 Fugitives.

This is pretty crazy! I also like that pakman was the first to post about this capture. Did a random Google News search for AMW and this was the first result. Came here and saw nobody had posted it so I did the honors

It's just it's usually me or HeadMarshal so I find it fun when we get someone different get to give the good news for a change. Although in fairness, you were pretty good on the old propsero forums on reporting captures lol.
