Below is an AMW archived description of his case. Feel free to add your comments and thoughts after the OP: Hiers 'Spotted' Across North AmericaThe public has been keeping their eyes peeled for Dan Hiers, who was accused of murdering his wife, Ludimila in March 2005 and molesting a young girl months earlier. Law enforcement officers say they have received calls from people who have claimed to see Hiers in Massachusetts, North Carolina, New York and even in Canada. Shortly after he first appeared on AMW, a tipster told cops that they had spotted Hiers in Toronto, but a search was inconclusive. Now police think Hiers may be in Mexico after his dead wife's car was found abandoned in a hospital parking lot in Laredo, Texas -- just miles from the Mexican border. The red Chevrolet Aveo had no license plates and the Vehicle Identification Number had been pried off the dashboard. When Laredo police were finally able to retrieve the VIN, they discovered that it was linked to a nationwide manhunt for Hiers. A check of hospital surveillance cameras showed that the car had been parked in the same spot since about a month after the Goose Creek, S.C., murder of Hiers' wife. For days, investigators scoured the streets of Laredo -- talking to locals, visiting convenience stores and gas stations, and checking bus stops. "We are hoping someone will identify him," Goose Creek Investigator Fred W. Bothman said. "I mean, he stands 6 feet 3 inches tall, is an outsider, and is blond, blue-eyed. I would imagine he would stick out like a sore thumb here." Allegations Of MolestationIn addition to placing him on their most wanted list, the U.S. Marshals Service has put up a $10,000 reward for any information leading to his capture. Hiers is also on the America's Most Wanted Dirty Dozen list. According to the Dorchester County Sheriff's Office, Hiers had agreed to turn himself in on March 15, 2005, after warrants were signed for his arrest, charging him with criminal sexual misconduct with a minor and committing a lewd act with a minor. It would be the second arrest for Hiers in the same case, and this time, the charges were more serious. It all began months earlier when Hiers was first arrested by North Charleston Police after an 11-year-old girl accused him of molestation. Cops say Hiers had been sexually abusing the little girl he met at a karate center in West Ashley, S.C. The child's mother says she trusted the former school resource officer who showed an extreme interest in the child and became a family friend. There was no romantic involvement between Hiers and the girl's mother, who says, "I thought Dan was wonderful and I saw him as a positive role model." The woman, who is a single mother, says: "I thought we were lucky, that I finally had found a good father figure for my child." A 'No-Show' -- And A Crime ScenePolice say Hiers had been sexually assaulting the girl at her home and in his car, and North Charleston police arrested him in late November 2004. He was later released from jail on a $25,000 personal recognizance bond, but was a no-show on March 15, when he was scheduled to meet his lawyer for his prearranged surrender. When Hiers didn't answer calls from police, his mother and a neighbor went to his house to check on him, but discovered a crime scene instead. Police say Hiers' wife, Ludimila, was found shot to death in the bedroom. She had been shot in the head sometime between 7 a.m. and noon. Neighbors say they saw Hiers walking in and out of the house early that afternoon, but by early evening, Hiers was missing along with his wife's car. Two weeks later, investigators were able to gather enough evidence to officially charge Hiers with his wife's murder. Officials say Hiers met Ludimila on a trip to Walt Disney World in 1994, when the then 15-year-old was vacationing with her family. With her parents' permission, the two married just before she turned 17 -- Hiers was 22. Now police want to find the man who they say took the young woman's life www.usmarshals.gov/investigations/most_wanted/hiers/hiers.htmweb.archive.org/web/20110907080128/http://www.amw.com/fugitives/case.cfm?id=30956#caseAdmin Note: If you have any (news-related) updates on this case, please contact us here: amwfans.com/thread/1662/website-contact-form

I personally do not see this ending well for Dan Hiers. While I hope it's not a John Addis like ending where other people are hurt, I don't see Hiers wanting to go to prison being both an ex-cop and alleged child molestor, a double whammy for the prison population. I do see him going down one day, and I see him committing suicide upon capture.

A bit surprised there has been not much discussion on Heirs since he is arguably the most notorious fugitive on this list. Bumping this up since I'd like to hear some more theories on where we think he may be.

There are two theories I have on Hiers's whereabouts.
1: He's somewhere in Mexico or Central/South America. He speaks some spanish and porteguese so if he dyed his hair brown or black he would blend in well in say Brazil.
2: He's hiding out in the Pacific Northwest with white supremacists. Walsh actually brought that up in a 2009 airing and that location was brought up again on his 2011 profile.

A blog claims the Marshals believe Hiers "associates" helped him escape: behindthebluewall.blogspot.com/2009/08/be-on-lookout-for-abscounded-fired-wife.htmlThe problem with Hiers is because he's an ex-cop it's hard whether to take some clues seriously or if they were purposely meant to throw people off. For instance, his car was found in Laredo, Texas near the Mexican border. That would indicate he fled to Mexico and/or another country in Latin America. But because he's an ex-cop, one has to consider the possibility he purposely wanted the car to be found there to throw investigators off.

I can't really see him still being in the US with the amount of times AMW has aired this case and with the exposure of being on the Marshals Top-15 list. I do believe he is in South America, not Mexico, far far in South America, however there is some mystery surrounding this case. He took very little out of an ATM machine before disappearing, somewhat odd since he left a decent chunk of money behind. I've read on many sites that people believe he committed suicide but my question is where?

I've read on many sites that people believe he committed suicide but my question is where? I have a hard time seeing Hiers committing suicide. I can definitely see him committing suicide upon capture, as a matter of fact if he's still alive that's how I see it ending. I agree with you on South America and with Derek specifically on Brazil being a possibility. I can even see him meeting a woman and/or fathering a child in another Central or South American country. I remember when Jesse James Hollywood mistakenly thought if he fathered a child in Brazil and was caught he wouldn't be extradited, but I take it Dan Hiers being an ex-cop would know the law better. So I don't see him fathering a child for that reason, but rather to try to appear to be living a normal life. It is a race against the clock if he is still out there, because of the tragic end to the John Addis case.

I just realized Hiers wife was Brazilian. Doesn't mean he still wouldn't go there but I take it it would be incredibly gutsy of Hiers to go to the same country of his murdered wife's family. So now deep, deep down in South America makes even more sense. It wouldn't be the first time a USMS top 15'er fled there, since we all know Paul Eischeid was captured in Argentina. This map should help with the possibilities. www.mapsofworld.com/south-america/

All these theories y'all are coming up with about my brother, yet you have no idea of anything that happened leading of to my sister-in-law's murder and my brother's disappearance. Nor any of the evidence that the police have not revealed to the public, or even investigate. What about the blood found in the bed that was not hers? What about the defensive wounds on her hands? Who did she struggle with? That doesn't go along with how they say she was murdered.

Bogart,
From your posting, it sounds like you are the brother of Dan Hiers. You might be surprised to hear me say this, but I want to express my sympathy for the situation you and your family are in. Regardless of what I or others think and whether or not he is innocent or guilty, he is your brother and I can't imagine what it's like to be in a situation like this. The stress on you and your family must be unbearable.
At the same time however, I think the best thing your brother can do is turn himself in. If he is innocent, he needs to say this in court. It ultimately should not be up to any of us but a jury of 12 people to decide on the facts of this case. And while the American justice system isn't perfect, it's one of the fairest ones we have on this planet. If he's that afraid he won't get a fair trial he can always ask his lawyer to ask to move it to another location. I am hoping this is also the outcome you're rooting for if you're that confident he's innocent.
Also, I'd like to ask the posters here to please treat bogart with respect. I don't want this turning into a repeat of John Schlump's daughter on the old AMW.com forum. We're all entitled to disagree and I get a feeling some might, but he's entitled to his freedom of speech like anyone else.
I wish you luck bogart.

Scumhunter,
Thanks for your respect and for asking other's for the respect of other's. Honestly, I don't think he left on his own free will. That's why I don't think he could even turn himself in, even if he could. I don't think he's still alive. My opinion. There are some things that we know about that makes me wonder if he killed her, but the detectives never seemed to look into it. We feel they always suspected we knew what happened to him, but we have no idea. Really wished things could have been different. Maybe we will all find out the truth one day.

If I'm correct, bogart57 is Scott Hiers. I've seen his postings on several news sites defending Dan expressing that their was "other evidence" suggesting perhaps Dan Hiers didn't commit this crime. I remember seeing you had said someone was watching Dan's wife in the days prior to her murder and some other information regarding the crime itself. I do find it unusual that it took the police nearly a month to official charge Dan, perhaps there was something that made them think otherwise at that time. Please enlighten us further however, I have followed this case for years and am interested in learning more about it.

Also not that anyone has brought it up but I just wanted to stress if we can please leave the little girl (who is now older but still young) out of this current conversation. The murder of Lyudmila is one thing but the other accusations should be held for another time other than mentioning how Dan may have reacted to them and the events after he was charged. As said on the blog I linked to, she hasn't had her chance to be proven to be telling the truth because of Dan Hiers disappearance, be it willing or unwilling. Some of you already know I had to ban a user for calling the victims of a group of alleged sex traffickers prostitutes who were only in it for the money. Slandering the victims is much different from what's being said here which is calling the evidence against someone accused of murder into question. (Once again Scott not saying you would ever do this but unfortunately sometimes things get heated. Thankfully rarely on this forum so far but I saw it happen a lot on amw.com's forums)

ja2013,
Just some things that we pointed out to the detectives that I feel like they never looked into. A few weeks before her murder, my sister-in-law told my mom that she noticed had been noticing a lady watching her at work on several occasions. Also, we believe someone was watching my brother's home. While he was wearing an ankle monitor, he had been reported by someone, whom I will not mention, whenever he would leave home for an extended time. For instance, whenever he came back to his hometown to visit and go hunting, he was reported, even though he was within the rules of his release. Now, his house was at the end of a cul-de-sac. You can't pass his house on the way to work or the store. You have to actually go up into his neighborhood to see his house, plus watch it to know how long he had been gone. There was other blood found in the bed that was not Mila's. I know because my parents gave blood samples to test against the foreign blood, yet we were never told whose blood it was. Also, whenever we went to the funeral home to view Mila's body, we noticed cuts and scratches on her hands. Like she had been in a struggle. I called the lead detective in the case and asked him to please check it out, but I don't think it went anywhere. The very next day, after I told him about these wounds, my father and I went back to the funeral home to make arrangements for payment and having her body flown back to Brazil, and we wanted to see her one last time. I immediately noticed her hands were covered with make-up. You couldn't even see the scratches. Now, if she had been struggling with someone, this would contradict their theory that she had been murdered in her sleep. Still would like to know some answers to these questions.
