While I was looking up Newslibrary articles from Utah based on fugitives the FBI was looking for there in the early 90s, I was shocked to see a 1991 article about Dennis Melvin Howe there. Apparently they believed he may have been in the Salt Lake City area in that year. No idea as to where they came to that conclusion, but Utah isn't far away from Washington and Montana where other leads were focusing on.

According to a 1994 Newspapers.com article, a Regina, Saskatchewan hotel owner believed that Dennis Melvin Howe was a guest there. The owner stated a drifter matching Howe's description stayed three times between 1987 and 1990, and the drifter even walked quickly like Howe.

Dennis Howe had severely decaying teeth, so my personal feeling is he may have eventually died of natural causes unless he was ever able to finally see a dentist. There is a guy who worked at an art gallery in Boise, Idaho that is mass posting all over the web claiming a conspiracy theory. That he himself reported Howe to AMW back in 1999 and he soon was off the website without any acknowledgement of what happened to him and that he was told to leave when he came back soon after his sighting. Or is this a case of mistaken identity? This man posts all over the place and is rather adamant the man in question was Howe. Howe would be 72-years of age if still alive. P.S. My apologies. I know Derek you're from Canada, and Czar, Howe is on your personal dirty dozen, and wanted to wait for one of you guys to post about him. But I just felt this case was too important to wait any longer.  You’re absolutely right. Believe it or not, abscessed teeth have been known to kill people if untreated. I don’t doubt that death is a likely possibility. What the RCMP should’ve done is reached out to dentists and someone may have recognized him after treating him. |

This past January marks unfortunately the 40th anniversary of the disappearance and eventual murder of Sharin Morningstar-Kennan and manhunt for Dennis Melvin Howe. On a side note of extreme coincidence, Kennan's disappearance at the hands of Howe and the murders of Rob and Marcia Edwards by allegedly Joe Sinnott Edwards happened a few days apart from each other.
