What was your cousin's town like when word reached them about the boys being nabbed in Pensacola, FL? Relief more then anything else. That and a lot of folks wanting the two killers to pay with their lives for what they had done, hence the reason they were tried in federal court under the carjacking statue since Iowa has no death penalty. Have you seen both the AMW airing as well as FBI Files episode from season 4? Also I was just wondering did your cousin know any of the victims or cops/agents since that area is so remote and Island's body was found by a deputy who happened to know her as well as her family?

I've seen the airing of this case(it's on Youtube) and noted that they didn't mention America's Most Wanted, just like I Almost Got Away With it never did due to copyright issues. As for my cousin, wanted to clarify she wasn't in the exact area these crimes happened(about half an hour away) so she didn't know any one involved but it still got massive coverage just the same. As Pakman rightfully noted,it was likely the most notorious Iowa case ever to be featured on AMW.

I've only seen the FBI Files episode "Lost Boys" I was only 8 years old when they went on their rampage and their capture in Florida.

knpr.org/headline/2016-06/inmate-dies-high-desert-state-prisonWanted to do a few more updates on AMW Captures. AMW Capture 812 Frederick Rosato, who was serving an 18 year to life sentence for killing his wife Elizabeth in Yonkers,NY won't be making his first parole hearing in 2022 due to him dying in prison on July 29,2016. Likewise,AMW Capture 830 Ronald Lee Lennon who was serving a life sentence for the murder of Mary Lou Moore in Nevada died in prison in June of 2016 as the link above shows. On the other hand,a couple of AMW captures appear to have left prison alive via parole. AMW Capture 347 Tammy Weller who shot a man in the head nearly killing him and then escaped prison until AMW busted her in 1995 has been granted parole per Nevada prison records. Not sure when she got it but she is out among us again. One can only hope she isn't the same person she was when she shot an innocent man in the head for no reason. And finally AMW Capture 29 Raylene Brooks, who was the driver when her boyfriend Kirkton Moore(AMW Capture 28 who is serving LWOP)killed a police officer and appears to have been granted parole in the past couple of years despite strong opposition from the LAPD. Can't find any articles where it says she was granted parole but since she isn't listed as an inmate when you search the California Inmate database like Moore and other AMW Captures like Fonisha Jones(AMW Capture 295) are,it's safe to assume she was granted parole. As with Tammy, one can only hope Raylene meant what she wrote about wanting to help troubled youth not make the same bad choices she made 31 years ago when she agreed to be the driver for her murderous boyfriend. She owes Officer Daniel Pratt's family that.

One more death update on an AMW capture. AMW Capture 452 Charles Manley, who murdered his ex-girlfriend Roxanne Logan and went on the run until AMW caught him in New Jersey died in a Nevada prison where he was serving a life sentence at the age of 53. legacy.sandiegouniontribune.com/uniontrib/20080210/news_1m10carrier.htmllegacy.sandiegouniontribune.com/news/metro/20080123-1346-bn23coldcase.htmlWanted to add an update to this post based on new information I found out while researching old AMW captures. Charles Manley died in prison in Nevada in 2001 at the age of 53 of Hep C(not a nice way to go.)while awaiting execution for the murder of his ex-girlfriend Roxeanne Logan. After his death,a cold case squad investigating old cases positively linked him to the 1976 murder of a woman Anita Marie Carrier in 2008. He had long been considered a suspect but it wasn't until advances in DNA came along that police could prove he was the killer. IMO,there is no way these two women were his only victims. One has to wonder how many unsolved murders of women were linked to him.

In this case, they had well preserved physical evidence to work with. As we all know, police departments don't always do well in that department and in other cases, there is simply no DNA evidence to work with. I have no doubt Manley has other victims but we'll never know about them all.

Wanted to provide updates on a few more AMW captures based on what I've found searching prison records. AMW Capture 103 Joey Mark Higgins who killed 19 year old hitchhiker Francis Perrin in a scheme to fake his own death was sentenced to 50 years in prison. However, due to the gain time laws in place at the time,he only served half of that and was released in 2013. Amw Captures 1038 and 1039 Bradley and Luann Chase - A husband-wife child predator team busted by AMW in October 2008. Bradley was sentenced to 38 years while Luann got 20 years but again, due to Indiana's gain time laws in place at the time(they have thankfully been changed since then) Luann was released on Dec 27 of 2017 while Bradley will likely be released around 2025 or so. While her prison sentence might be done, her registration on the sex offender list as a predator will remain until she dies and rightfully so. Amw Capture #205 Gwendolyn Carol Dowell Benton who was busted by AMW for murder and robbery in 1992 was released from prison in 2006. Again, laws in place at the time(that have been changed since then)meant the 30 year sentence she got for 2nd degree and robbery was cut in half due to gain time. AMW Capture 487 William Edward Coday who was condemned to death for the murder of his ex-girlfriend Gloria Gomez decided he would impose that sentence himself by slashing his wrists. He died on April 28,2008. AMW Capture 630 Ronald Bernard Thomas Jr was released on Dec.13,2017 after serving 17 years of a 20 year prison sentence for 2nd degree murder. And finally AMW Capture 1017 Thomas Gleason was released from prison on Oct.2,2017 after serving an 11 year prison sentence. He will be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

Even more updates for everyone.
Amw Capture 79 Seymour Pinckney, who murdered his common law wife and her oldest daughter after years of abuse in 1979 and was on the run until AMW busted him 11 years later in October of 89 died in a New Jersey prison on April 16, 2017. AMW Capture 486 Timothy Aoktorral White was released from a North Carolina prison on December 14,2015 after serving 18 years of the 21 year sentence he was given for the murder of his wife Patricia Gray. Amw Capture 500 Amy Dechant had her first degree murder conviction for killing her boyfriend overturned and agreed to plead guilty to 2nd degree murder. She was paroled in 2011 per Nevada prison records on that charge. AMW Capture 552 Martin Allen Johnson who was on Oregon's death row for the rape and murder of 15 year old Heather Fay Fraser had his murder conviction and death sentence thrown out due to his lawyers not allowing him to argue that Fraser died of an unintentional overdose and not deliberate murder, which would mean the difference between a life sentence or death. He is now awaiting his retrial in the Washington County jail. Amw Capture 563 Eric Zessman, who was part of a four person AMW capture in regards to robbing a coin vault in Nevada was paroled in 2018 and is thus free as the rest of his partners in crime are. And finally,AMW Capture 846 John Lockhart who was given a ten years to life sentence for raping babies was denied parole at his first parole hearing and won't be eligible again until 2025. I will say based on his recent prison mugshot that he has some health issues so it's possible he might not around for his next hearing. Even if he is,I suspect that the only way he'll be leaving prison is in a body bag.

On researching capture updates,I'm finding some states are better at letting you know what happened to inmates no longer in their custody then others. Florida,New York and Nevada are great. New Jersey,West Virginia and California..not so much.
