In Pursuit is almost finished wrapping up case selection for season 5. Once again only six episodes but I've seen some of the fugitives they've picked and they did a great job under the circumstances of both cases and balancing different kinds of crimes with limited space. So far I'm familiar with all the cases (no top list cases- but two cases are high publicity/major Marshals type cases) but usually there is a surprise.

I know some may be confused with John and Cal now hosting AMW, but In Pursuit will have a season 5 next year but it will likely be the last season. Still cool that we may have weeks with both AMW and In Pursuit (two fugitive shows a week!) for at least a short while.

This is bittersweet because in pursuit is an amazing show and has bagged a few huge captures but on the other hand amw is back in full force and hopefully many captures come from it we'll be watching good for more true crime content in the next few years

I also wasn’t sure if this or the AMW thread was more appropriate but I want to stress one thing and that’s that I will miss In Pursuit after this likely last season and I’m not easily ditching it for AMW even with John and Cal hosting. The problem is not In Pursuit itself but the channel it is on. The ID channel is now a shell of itself- not many new shows or repackaged episodes of shows passed off as “new”. Additionally, more and more people are ditching cable- and the ID channel was a niche audience of true crime fans to begin with. As we’ve seen- direct captures from the show have went down over the years- and that is not the show’s fault but rather the smaller and smaller potential audience net on the channel it is on.
I mean this with respect- In Pursuit will possibly still be a better show than AMW (it’s at least better than 2021 AMW) but as far as what is most important- catching fugitives- AMW is on the more widely accessible network and has the more likely viewers to spot and catch fugitives. (Sorry to put it this way- ID’s viewing audience are niche true crime fans who usually aren’t criminals themselves- AMW is accessibly to basically everyone- and that trashy person in a trailer park that might recognize a fugitive next door would have Fox but wouldn’t pay for cable lol).
So it is bittersweet that after this season In Pursuit is basically being replaced by AMW- but for the sake of actually getting direct results assuming new AMW is hopefully successful now that John and Cal are involved- it is probably for the best.

Also another advantage AMW has it will tape a week in advance which keeps it plenty of time to update captures. In Pursuit wraps up filming months in advance and has no choice but to still air a fugitive even if caught because of it- which also affects the capture rate.
For the TL/Dr, In Pursuit is (possibly or at least compared to 2021 AMW) a higher quality show but AMW has more advantages when it comes to catching bad guys and girls.
I made a lot of friends at In Pursuit though who all did amazing jobs at telling the stories of the victims (who the cases are really about) and I will miss them- but I also hope they can find their way to new AMW as well!

I also appreciate the irony that I/we were pissed off in 2021 when Fox hired Nancy Grace to host the AMW after show. Now Nancy Grace is on ID and has been hosting a show that comes on the same night as In Pursuit. How the turn tables…

In Pursuit season 5 (sadly probably the final season) will most likely debut in May.

Just wanted to say I’m hearing now there may be a Season 6 after all. But we should just be happy about Season 5.

I don’t want to get anyone’s hopes up just it’s not the foregone conclusion that IP would end after season 5 that it used to be and there is still some hope for future seasons but yeah can’t wait

Also outlawtaco I know you’re the rare exception but my take on both shows is that AMW is more easily accessible for those without cable or who don’t subscribe to many or any streaming services as all they need is a antenna along with profiling more fugitives per episode so in my opinion AMW is a better show for likelihood for captures but In Pursuit by going more in depth is a better show for quality (AMW improved a lot in Season 2 though obviously)

Yeah I agree like you said amw goes over a brief overview while in pursuit goes very in to the cases with painstakingly detail and I remember watching amw very vaguely as a kid my parents are awesome they let me watch pretty intense stuff like forensic files and first 48 like I said I've always loved true crime in fact I joined you guys when I was a senior in highschool but I was an admirer of this site for a long time I've always liked the web sleuthing community and im happy im still contributing and loving what i do and glad to still be in good standing😊
