Okay that 3D thing they did with the fugitives is brilliant, Elizabeth Vargas is amazing and I like her being at the helm of hosting AMW, I feel comfortable knowing The Walsh father and son duo have their own show which we can also watch when it returns, so I’m fine with Vargas as AMW host.
They clearly retold the story of Godwin, however in the age progressed 3D image, he kinda looks like Macaulay Culkin. The surprising thing is they speculate Godwin could be in Miami, Florida where he was born as they think he’s wanted by the U.S., Mexico, and the Mexican Cartels.
As for the cases, it’s good to start off with a case from the first season of AMW as a throwback, Eugene Palmer’s segment is good, and off the AMW note, the FBI should really add an age progressed or altered image of Palmer, how he would look without his “Abe Lincoln Beard” (According to AMW), they do talk about him possibly having ties to Florida and Georgia, but investigators feel he’s in Upstate New York (specifically in the area of the Adirondack Mountains, and mentions Tammy Palmer’s mother passed away (I’m not sure if she passed recently or if it happened a couple years ago, but just didn’t know)
The crime alerts are pretty good segments if they are going to be more cold case focused, this is actually a great tipping of the balance.
Jennifer Settle, she’s kind of like AMW’s Genevieve Kelley, and she’s believed to be Bakersfield, CA, Baltimore, MD, South Carolina, and she loves the Denver, CO area, and they feel she could be in Colorado in the areas between Fort Collins and Colorado Springs.
They aired 2 missing brothers from California City, CA, Orson and Orrin West who are 3 and 4 years old respectively.

This is just my opinion, but I wasn’t happy with the new show.
Vargas is good, but I felt that the show lacked depth when it came to cases that the original show had. Only neat part was the avatar technology. Other than that, I wasn’t terribly happy.
Grade: D+.

Just finished watching it! Overall, I was really impressed with it! I was a bit annoyed that pretty much every case took up two segments, but that's something I can live with. The life-sized digital recreations of the fugitives are impressive but I think they're a little much. For positives, though, I like how there's no narration for the stories and it's basically just the people involved telling what happened. And the format where Elizabeth talks to the prosecutor and investigator works a LOT better than the roundtable format AMW did in its last few years. I also think Elizabeth is a great host!
The tribute to John Walsh at the beginning of the show was really nice, and I'm happy they actually aired clips from the March 1988 episode when Godwin was first profiled. I'm sure John is very impressed with the show as well!
There's room to grow, of course, but overall, I feel a lot better than I did before heading into this night.

Okay, I just wanted to say I was actually really impressed with the series premiere! The three main cases per episode was perfectly fine in my view, much better than The Hunt and along the same line as In Pursuit. The reenactments were good, straight to the point, and telling the life of the victim was done in an effective way too.
The 3D life like avatars of the fugitives was also an excellent idea. I'm glad that this new technology can be put to good use. Only comment was that doing an image with weight loss in the case of Eugene Palmer wouldn't have been a bad idea. Also feel it's possible that Jennifer Settle may have dyed both her and McKenna's hair.
The reports about crimes caught on tape I felt were good as well since all of the cases were violent, including the dog kidnapping stories.
I still want results out of the show as far as a direct capture or a missing child recovery, but I have faith that will happen soon.
Finally Elizabeth Vargas and the rest of the team did an excellent job. Vargas's journalistic experience really paid off and she is very fit for this role. The mention of John Walsh and the piece of Glen Godwin's original airing from 1988 I felt was very significant to share.

My thoughts:
-Elizabeth Vargas is incredibly polished and a pro. I was NOT AT ALL criticizing their choice of her as a host, I knew she had the chops, my worry was about the viewers deciding to not tune in if the host was not at least someone that gave old AMW viewers some sense of comfort if it wasn't going to be Walsh himself, while Elizabeth is famous in a news sense but possibly new to AMW veterans. (Elizabeth Smart and Tom Morris would have had somewhat of a Walsh'esque sense of familiarity where they may have been less stubborn comments is all I meant). I still saw a lot of stubborn "no John Walsh I'm not watching" comments tonight, as toptenhunter said, you can still watch John on In Pursuit!
I think the show may have been live too since Vargas was reading tweets, so it's important to have an experienced host if you're going to be live.
I think for those worrying whether she cares about the cases or not like John Walsh obviously cared, the Jennifer Settle/McKenna Butcher semeed to have really affected her, and she seemed to be in tears interviewing McKenna's father in studio. I hope that helps somewhat to see that she does have feelings and emotions over these cases and isn't just a presenter.
She did a good job!
-The 3D technology is pretty cool even if I'm more of a "story" guy.
-The guy in the Eugene Palmer re-enactment looked exactly like Palmer, to the point I'm worried he might be AMW 2.0's "Sohpie David" LOL (for those new to AMW, the actress who played David did such a good job she kept getting arrested and had to have a letter explaining she was an actress on the show).
Also the re-enactments are somewhat similar to In Pursuit except obviously they have Fox's budget to be a little more theatrical. They don't speak, just like they don't speak on In Pursuit, but the scenes are a little more out in the open while In Pursuit (not a criticism) is a little more quick and sometimes silhouettes or not showing faces. There is no voice-over narration while In Pursuit has John or Callahan narrate, but people connected to the case commenting in between scenes instead.
-Pakman's going to hate me for this, but I understand they want to be interactive, but the tweets in between the segments was a little distracting. The reason I say pakman's going to hate me for this is they showed one of his tweets, so I can't complain too much (congrats to him!). (I swear that was one complaint before they showed Pakman's tweet lol). I don't think they should not show tweets, just like a little less focus on them since this is about victim's and the fugitives. We can do Q'A's on Twitter, not during the show.
-As toptenhunter said, they did a breaking news fugitive case (Phillip Michael Dent, wanted for a violent carjacking, who was actually on our forum already!) and a couple more video segments and a missing child segment so like AMW 1.0 they did do real-time updates.
Was it perfect? No, but it was a good start and thankfully, a lot of my fears have been alleviated (I'd still like the main segment cases to be a little more up-to-date but in retrospect starting off with an AMW cold case made some sense). Looking forward to next week!

Also amw has a tip hotline 1-833-3-AMW-TIPS (the last time I called 1800CrimeTV it turned into a phone sex line of all things, but the lady I talked to took my hot tip anyway (just kidding)). They also have a website of course at amwtips.com

Anyways I enjoyed the first episode I think it’ll be great but with time it’s going to change and improve, there’s still room for improvement.

I understand, I mean I would like a little less focus on tweets and gadgetry (even if the gadgetry was cool), and a little more focus on the victims. This is their first season (well 2.0's first season) so hopefully they can continue to work on it.

Haha, no, I don't hate you for this! I do see where it's distracting (I was kind of annoyed by it, even though my tweet was featured). Unfortunately I think that's the nature of network TV today. I wonder if the Walsh AMW had continued, if that's something they would have done too.
One more note: I'm glad Elizabeth has her own sign-off. "You CAN make a difference" is John's line, and I wonder if maybe that was something they agreed upon when he handed over the reigns.

I know Scumhunter brought up the Palmer segment and honestly guys, that actor that played Palmer looked exactly like him to a T, I mean I thought they had family home videos they were showing and it was Eugene Palmer himself for a sec.

One problem I had with the Godwin case: they had a great chance to unveil new age-enhanced photos which they didn’t do, and I didn’t feel like they gave adequate explanation as to his likely location (I’m thinking more along the lines of Central America - they really could have discussed good sightings in the case).
