I think it's safe to say Season 1 of "The Hunt" with John Walsh has been a rousing success so far. Not only have the ratings been incredible for a cable news network on Sunday night (the debut episode set a record for ratings for a CNN original series!) but they caught their first guy just a week and a day after his airing. Not to mention, albeit indirect, their first ever case is now deceased as well. This likely means The Hunt has a very good if not almost certain chance of getting renewed for a second season on CNN.
Perhaps we're getting ahead of ourselves, but now that we see what The Hunt is about and it's style, we probably have a better grasp of the show now and know what cases we feel would be a good fit and which ones wouldn't be. The format as we all now know is a higher-production more expanded version of AMW-type of cases that is a tiny bit slowed down compared to its' predecessor and focuses on just 1-2 cases an episode. AMW on the other hand was a lower budget show that was more fast paced and showed more fugitives. Each have their own advantages and disadvantages, and this is not meant to discuss which show was/is better, just explaining the differences when people reading this think about the cases. Because in my opinion, some cases may be a good fit for AMW but not The Hunt and vice versa.
I also want to stress to any visitors reading this that this is an AMW/The Hunt fan site. We don't have influence on the cases actually decided, and this is just a discussion. With that being said, hopefully if any powers that be read this site they take our suggestions into account!
Anyway what cases do you guys feel would be good for The Hunt? Here's some of what I think:
(Edit: This was originally case suggestions for season 2 but we've now changed it to upcoming seasons).
AMW Fugitive cases:
Aside from the FBI and US Marshal's Most Wanted lists which almost certainly will get consideration for The Hunt. The following I think would be good for The Hunt's format:
Yaser Said- This is almost a shoo-in. John Walsh on the pre-debut Twitter chat stated to a poster who asked about Said that he hopes the Hunt is successful enough they renew the show for a second season so he can profile Said. With Bill Warner possibly tracking Said to NYC and a documentary in the works, this case can easily take up the entire hour and not just half-hour.
Update: Said eventually added to FBI top 10 list and aired on season 2.
Paul Jackson- The Hunt relies on others to tell the story while John Walsh provides commentary. (Once again, not a bad thing). As a result, victims willing to talk is a key for The Hunt. And Michelle Dietrich is outspoken and very brave when speaking about what she says Paul Jackson and his brother Vance did to her. I can easily see an expanded profile with her and other victims coming forward.
Update: Cased aired on season 2, and he was captured!
Greisy Valencia- Both the non-re-enactment and re-enactment versions on AMW were pretty good. They can now combine the two on The Hunt.
Spiro Germenis- American Greed: The Fugitives was able to sustain a half-hour on this case and this was before the tragic news that Richard Kohlmorgen passed away. So I feel The Hunt can easily do at least a half-hour on this heartless con artist along with the update, even though Germenis admittedly might be in Greece with extradition or any kind of justice seeming fleeting at the moment.
AMW Missing Cases:
Kyron Horman- A few updates such as Terri Horman trying to legally change her name have happened recently.
Unsolved AMW Cases:
Chesnee Quadruple Homicide- The Hunt has yet to do an unsolved case. With their expanded format, they will have at least a half-hour at their disposal to go more in-depth on this tragic case that needs to be solved yesterday.
Non-AMW cases:
Alexander Hill Jr.- I don't think I even need to explain this one.
Edit: Cased aired on season 2, was captured before airing
Matthew Dion- Obviously he has an interesting backstory and he is a suspect wanted for questioning for the murder of his own parents in New Hampshire. The only problem with The Hunt airing this case is with Genevieve and Scott Kelley they already did a New Hampshire case in season 1.
Edit: Cased was scheduled to be aired on season 2, but Dion was captured beforehand.
Eugene Palmer- I know The Hunt has covered a few "may be dead" cases already this season. But the mystery and backstory here can easily take up a half-hour and it's not everyday a 73-year old fugitive is charged with murder. It's an intriguing case that should capture viewer attention.
There's too many forum-exclusive cases of ours to count as I can make an argument for so many more,
Non-AMW missing:
Relisha Rudd- Her kidnapper Khalil Tatum is dead but she's nowhere to be found. While sadly I suspect the worst, this case needs to be in the national spotlight again just in case a miracle is in the works.
Non-AMW Unsolved:
Sun Family Killer- Obviously a Quadruple Homicide of a naturalized immigrant family should make headlines. There's so many scenarios to go through here and the Sun family needs justice.
That's just one but pretty much every other case in the forum Exclusive unsolved section in my opinion would make a good case for The Hunt. The only problem is because of The Hunt's format and unsolved cases being harder to solve, they may be more appropriate for Cold Justice. But every once in a blue moon I wouldn't mind a half-hour unsolved case if there's good evidence and/or clues.
Thoughts? Suggestions?
