Law enforcement in Washington and California are looking for the killer or killers of Tammy Vincent. She ran away from home near Seattle but wounded up murdered in California in 1979 and left unidentified until 2007. AMW aired this case several times in the 2000s. Here's a rundown of the case from it's 2010 archive. " Teenage Runaway Descends Into Seattle's Seedy Underbelly
Sick and tired of living with her parents, 16-year-old Tammy Vincent ran away from home in Washington state in the fall of 1978. Sadly, the pretty teenager never returned but found work the following year at a Seattle dive called "Tease and Rip", a venue that was part peep show, part strip joint. In 1979, police raided the club where Tammy worked, and she was offered a deal to turn state's evidence against the club owners, who owned multiple sex industry properties. Police say some of these owners were members of an outlaw biker gang called the "Gypsy Jokers," as well as a shadowy figures only described as businessmen. Tammy was moved to a safe house in August of that year for her protection, but being a minor, she was transferred to a group home five hours outside of Seattle. She should have been safe there, but a lawyer working for the club owners tracked her down and convinced the group home to release Tammy to his care. Tragically, Tammy soon discovered that she was about to be handed over to the club owners that she was asked to testify against. A short time later, authorities were called to a Marin County, Calif. beach, Blackie's Pasture, in the ritzy town of Tiburon. There, they found a girl's body that had been stabbed 44 times with an ice pick; the attack was so vicious that the pick had broken off in the victim's body. Investigators surmised that the girl was still alive when she was doused with accelerant before being set on fire. Cops believed that the Jane Doe had been shot in the back of the head as she tried to crawl away. For almost 30 years, authorities would be stumped as to the identities of this teenage girl and the people responsible for her gruesome death. A Murder Mystery Begins To UnravelIn 2001, Marin County Sheriff's detective Steve Nash inherited the then-called, San Francisco Jane Doe case. Over the course of the next year, Detective Nash made inroads into identifying the teenage girl. He took a photo of half of the Jane Doe's face that was not burned and asked the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) to help create a fuller image of what the girl may have looked like. The photo was placed on NCMEC's website, but no one recognized her. Nash's next attempt was having the girl's body exhumed to collect a femur bone so that the California Department of Justice DNA crime lab can extract a sample. The lab was only able to recover 9 of the necessary 13 markers needed for a complete DNA profile. The next year, authorities working on the Green River Killer murder case begin a search on all missing females who disappeared during the Green River killing spree. The search takes them to Tammy Vincent's family who agreed to give detectives DNA samples The samples were then sent to Texas to be entered into the Combined DNA Indexing System (CODIS). CODIS allows DNA samples taken from families to be cross-referenced with DNA from unidentified human remains. Unfortunately, there are no matches, but that would all change years later when AMW got involved. In December of 2006, AMW began working with Detective Nash on his San Francisco Jane Doe case. While filming the story at the California Department of Justice's crime lab, AMW producer Margaret Parker, asked the question that would blow the case wide open. She asked the DOJ lab technicians if having evidence, including clothing and underwear, just filmed for the AMW segment would help to complete the DNA profile. They affirmed that it would and Det. Nash gathered the evidence but also remembered that included in the 1979 evidence list was a sexual assault kit. Inside the kit were swabs, nail clippings, and pubic hairs, a few of which had the follicles still intact. These hairs would complete the vital DNA. While there were no DNA matches in the Calif. DOJ database, there would be a hit in the CODIS system. The new DNA profile matched the DNA sample given by the Vincent family in 2003 who had a missing teenage girl named Tammy. Finally, Detective Nash had identified his Jane Doe. The Hunt For Tammy's KillersNow that Detective Nash had Tammy's identity, he could retrace her steps all those years ago. Currently, there's a case pending against her former employers, the club owners, but authorities are asking for the public's assistance in identifying Tammy's killers, particularly a shadowy figure known only as "The Man In The White Suit." Police say he's the one who purchased an ice pick, acetate, and black paint at a Woolworth's store on Market Street in San Francisco in the days just before Tammy's remains were found. Police believe "The Man In The White Suit" probably had at least two other men helping him to torture and kill Tammy in the days prior to her murder. Cops say that the men transported Tammy in a blue van, and they were likely armed with handguns. " Thoughts? I'm surprised this wasn't solved since her bosses relating to the case was on trial. To find her killers, they need to find those who took her and the bosses from this "Tease and Rip" know. web.archive.org/web/20100413034353/http://www.amw.com/fugitives/case.cfm?id=47984www.websleuths.com/forums/showthread.php?52303-CA-Tammy-Vincent-17-Tiburon-26-September-1979en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Tammy_Vincentwww.marinij.com/general-news/20070929/victim-in-1979-tiburon-murder-finally-identifiedwww.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/another-green-river-victim-is-identified/crimsonshadows.net/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=162:man-white-suit&catid=95:human-trafficking&Itemid=124csafd.proboards.com/post/62Admin Note #1: According to an old online article: The Marin County (Calif.) As a Chicagoan, this case hits home. I remember this case being talked about often in the early 2000s. But now it's in the memory hole. I don't remember or at least forgot the details discussed here like the Moroccan and the Gary, IN factor. The last time I remember this case, there was talk about finding their remains. Either they didn't or that they found someone else.

Karen Grajeda went out to play in front of her home at the Saguaro Crest complex in Tucson, Arizona on Thursday, January 11, 1996. At dinnertime, Karen was gone. The AMW web archive indicate that she might have been featured sometime in the late 1990s. From the Charley Project: Missing Since: January 11, 1996 from Tucson, Arizona Classification: Non-Family Abduction Date Of Birth: October 15, 1988 Age (at time of disappearance): 7 years old Height and Weight: 3'5, 50 pounds Distinguishing Characteristics: Hispanic (Mexican) female. Black hair, brown eyes. Karen's upper right front tooth is larger than her other teeth, and she was missing several baby teeth at the time of her 1996 disappearance. Her ears are pierced and she has a pea-sized mole behind one ear. She speaks both Spanish and English. Clothing/Jewelry Description: A faded purple or turquoise t-shirt with white lettering on the front, multicolored pastel floral-printed shorts, Guess? shoes, a gold chain with a pendant reading "Little Angel," a ring with a red stone and another ring engraved with the letter K. Karen was last seen playing outside of her family's residence at Saguaro Crest Apartments on in the 100 block of west Valencia Street in Tucson, Arizona on January 11, 1996. She was roller-skating with her younger sister and some friends that evening and was last seen when she returned to her apartment to drop off her skates before going outside again to play. Her mother reported Karen as missing when she called her daughter inside for dinner at approximately 6:30 p.m. that evening and noticed Karen had disappeared. Neither her sister nor any of their playmates had seen her vanish or heard a scream or a struggle. She has never been seen again. It is possible that Karen was abducted by an unidentified male seen in the area around the same time she disappeared. A sketch of the suspect is posted below this case summary. He is described as a Hispanic or Caucasian male who was approximately 30 to 46 years old in 1996. He has light brown hair and green or hazel eyes. He stood between approximately 5'6 and 5'8 tall and weighed about 170 pounds. The suspect may have a moustache. He is believed to have also been responsible for the abduction, rape and beating death of another child, Esther "Lizette" Galaz, who disappeared from her home in December 1994 and was found the next day in a drainage ditch near her home. Galaz's murder remains unsolved. Authorities stated the circumstances of her abduction and murder are very similar to Karen's disappearance: both girls are Hispanic, within a year of one another's age, and disappeared outside their Tucson apartment complexes during the evening hours. Another possible suspect in Karen's case is Rodolfo Sedeno Morales. Morales resided in Saguaro Crest Apartments in 1996 and is currently serving a prison term for the abductions of five girls from the Tucson area between 1993 and 1994. He has not been charged in connection with Karen's disappearance, however. Karen's case remains open and unsolved. Her family members were cleared of any suspicion in her disappearance shortly after the investigation began in 1996. Her father was in Mexico at the time of her disappearance; her mother is also a Mexican native. Karen enjoys playing Nintendo games, roller skating and riding her bicycle. She was a first-grade student Elvira Elementary School and was learning to read, write, and sing at the time of her January 1996 disappearance. She has never been located. Zachary Ramsay left his home in Great Falls, Montana, at 7:30 a.m on February 6, 1996 to walk the six blocks to his elementary school. But on this morning Zachary never made it to school. The AMW web archive indicate that he might have been featured sometime in the late 1990s. From the Charley Project: Missing Since: February 6, 1996 from Great Falls, Montana Classification: Endangered Missing Date Of Birth: December 18, 1985 Age (at time of disappearance): 10 years old Height and Weight: 4'0, 100 pounds Distinguishing Characteristics: Biracial (African-American/Caucasian) male. Brown hair, brown eyes. Zachary has scars between his eyebrows and on one of his arms. He had blotchy skin at the time of his 1996 disappearance. He has facial dimples. Zachary wears eyeglasses, but he was not carrying them at the time he disappeared. His nickname is Zach. Clothing/Jewelry Description: A blue denim jacket with green sleeves, a blue football jersey with his last name "Zachary" imprinted on the back in gold letters, stonewashed jeans and black high-top sneakers. Zachary departed from the apartment he shared with his mother in the 400 block of north Fourth Street in Great Falls, Montana at approximately 7:30 a.m. on February 6, 1996. He was walking to Witter School at the time. Witnesses saw him walk down the alley near the 400 block of north Fifth Street shortly thereafter. He never arrived at school. Zachary ran away once, a month prior to his disappearance, but called his mother to come get him within an hour. He lived with is mother and two siblings at the time of his disappearance. A neighbor reported that Nathaniel Bar-Jonah was in the area of the alley around the same time Zachary was. A photo of Bar-Jonah is posted below this case summary. Another witness told authorities that he saw Zachary crossing north Sixth Street at approximately 7:45 a.m. The witness stated that Zachary appeared to be crying and was being followed by a man, who was apparently upset. Investigators believe that the man was Bar-Jonah and that he abducted Zachary by using a stun gun to subdue the child shortly thereafter. School officials contacted Zachary's mother when he failed to report for classes during the day. His mother filed a missing person's report later that afternoon. Zachary has never been heard from again. Bar-Jonah was charged with Zachary's abduction and murder in 2000. Authorities suspected Bar-Jonah, whose given name was David P. Brown, preyed on young children, mainly boys. Bar-Jonah also confessed to cannibalistic activities. He bragged that he "hunted" Zachary, among other grisly claims. He had a lengthy criminal record and served a prison sentence for the abduction and attempted murder of two Massachusetts boys in 1977. Authorities stated Zachary's body would not be recovered due to Bar-Jonah's suspected cannibalism. Prosecutors sought the death penalty for his alleged crimes. Bar-Jonah was convicted of two unrelated counts of child molestation in Montana in February 2002. He vowed to appeal the decisions and maintained his innocence in all charges against him. Bar-Jonah is also a possible suspect in the 1973 disappearance of Janice Pockett from Connecticut. Bar-Jonah was a teenager at the time Pockett disappeared, but apparently had a criminal background at an early age. He also resided near Janice's last known location at the time she disappeared. Authorities also investigated the possibility that Bar-Jonah was connected to the 1997 Wyoming disappearance of Amanda Gallion. Amanda is classified as a runaway, but her Social Security number has not been used since her disappearance. A handwritten list of names entitled "Lake Webster" was discovered in Bar-Jonah's possession in December 2001. Some reports state that Andrew Amato was among the children featured in the list, but this is inaccurate. Andrew disappeared from Webster, Massachusetts in 1978. He has not been tied with Bar-Jonah. DNA testing conducted in 2001 on a bone located in Bar-Jonah's Montana garage proved that it was not part of Zachary's, Janice's or Amanda's remains. Andrew's DNA was not compared to the bone. Bar-Jonah was not charged in connection with any of the other disappearances. He died of a blood clot in a Montana prison in April 2008, at age 51. All charges related to Zachary's case were dismissed against Bar-Jonah in October 2002 as the result of a lack of evidence. Zachary's mother stated that she believed her son was alive. She said that she viewed a videotape of her son frolicking in a playground in 2000. Authorities said that they verified the tape was filmed in Italy, where the child's father was stationed with the United States military at the time. His dental records and fingerprints did not match Zachary's. His mother insists that her psychic and others believe her son is alive and she hopes his case will be reopened by law enforcement. Investigators closed Zachary's file after allegedly connecting Bar-Jonah to his disappearance. In January 2011, over the the objections of his mother, Zachary's biological father had him declared legally dead. He can now collect on Zachary's $20,000 life insurance policy. Zachary likes drawing and painting. He is described as a reserved but friendly child. At the time of his disappearance, he was afraid of the dark. His case remains unsolved. Celina Mays disappeared from her home in Wilingboro, New Jersey on December 16, 1996. The AMW web archive indicate that she might have been featured sometime in the late 1990s. From the Charley Project: Missing Since: December 16, 1996 from Willingboro, New Jersey Classification: Endangered Missing Date Of Birth: May 28, 1984 Age (at time of disappearance): 12 years old Height and Weight: 5'0, 120 pounds Distinguishing Characteristics: Biracial (African-American/Caucasian) female. Black hair, brown eyes. Celina's eyebrows grow together. Some agencies state that she is Hispanic. Her hair was very long and wavy at the time of her disappearance. Some agencies spell Celina's middle name "Janet." Clothing/Jewelry Description: Possibly a long red coat. Medical Conditions: Celina was nine months pregnant at the time of her 1996 disappearance. Her baby was due around December 29 of that year. Celina was last seen at approximately 11:00 p.m. on December 15, 1996 when she went to bed at her aunt's residence on Crestview Drive in Willingboro, New Jersey. Her father, C.J. Mays, checked her room the following morning and discovered that Celina was missing and pillows had been placed under her blankets in her bed to give the appearance that she was sleeping. There was no sign of Celina, who left her prenatal vitamins, purse and other personal belongings behind. She has never been heard from again. Celina lived with her father, stepmother and several other relatives at the time of her 1996 disappearance. C.J. was employed as an accountant and bookkeeper for the Gospel Of Christ Ministries Inc., based in Mount Holly, New Jersey. His sister, Cerita Smith, was pastor of the church and the Mays family raised Celina as a member. Celina was home-schooled and grew up with strict religious beliefs from the organization. C.J. maintains that Celina did not leave her home because of problems with her religion. The Gospel Of Christ Ministries Inc. had numerous complaints from former members in the late 1990s who claimed that the church was utilizing brainwashing techniques on its congregation. It is not known if the allegations are connected to Celina's case, but Cerita has accused disgruntled ex-members of the church of hiding Celina. C.J. believes that his daughter planned her disappearance, mainly because he threatened to have paternity tests performed to learn the identity of her unborn child's father. Officials said that C.J. was uncooperative in his Celina's disappearance; they have lost touch with him in the years since Celina vanished. Another of Celina's relatives somewhat supports C.J.'s theory, telling the press that he believed she was murdered by the baby's father in order to prevent his identity from being revealed, or possibly she died as the result of an amateur abortion. The baby's father, if he is ever identified, could be charged with rape due to the Celina's age at the time she became pregnant. Authorities responded by announcing they have no information concerning Celina's child's father and statements made by others were purely speculation, although it has been rumored that one of Celina's cousins fathered her child. He was interviewed several times by authorities after she disappeared, but denied any knowledge of Celina's whereabouts. The individual has fathered seven children by four different women, and is now in his twenties and married to the mother of four of his children. Celina's aunt believes that the father of her baby was an individual she met while roller skating in Camden County, New Jersey. Celina's mother, Lynn Marie Vitale, died of a brain aneurysm in 1994, two years before Celina disappeared. Vitale and C.J. never married and allegedly had a tumultous relationship with some incidences of domestic violence. C.J. was a musician at the time he met Vitale, and admits that he had a drug and alcohol problem. Vitale had been an exotic dancer and was addicted to drugs, but overcome her addiction before her death and got a job as a school custodian in Palmyra, New Jersey. Several of Vitale's family members fought a bitter custody battle over Celina with C.J. after Vitale's death. She lived with some of Vitale's friends before moving with her father. Both sides have accused the other of hiding Celina. Several of Celina's maternal relatives believe foul play was involved in her case. No evidence has been produced to support any of the theories. Celina's obstetrician, whom she last saw two days before her disappearance, told officials that she never identified her baby's father. The obstetrician described Celina as an emotionally mature girl. She reportedly told her doctor that her boyfriend was 16 years old in 1996 and was not a member of her church. There have been numerous unconfirmed sightings of Celina in the years since her disappearance. In the weeks immediately after her disappearance, she was supposedly seen in Lacey Township and Hopewell Township in New Jersey, but these have not been confirmed. A business owner in Midland, Texas reported that one of his employees matched her description in 2000. Authorities determined that the young woman was not Celina shortly afterwards. One of C.J.'s friends claimed to have seen her near Lions Mountain, New York later in 2000, but the incident was not confirmed. Investigators said that a woman who resembled Celina was captured on a security camera videotape near a Wawa store in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey in December 2002. That sighting is being reviewed. Celina has family members on her mother's side living in Michigan and Florida. Her mother left her a large life insurance policy, which she is now eligible to collect since she has turned eighteen. Investigators are calling Celina's case a missing persons case, not a homicide, and it remains unsolved. Thoughts? My top theory was that she was a runaway or someone within her family or this cult may have been involved. www.charleyproject.org/cases/m/mays_celina.htmldoenetwork.org/cases/1577dfnj.htmlwww.missingkids.com/poster/NCMC/827787articles.philly.com/1997-01-10/news/25561226_1_neighbors-shy-girl-motherarticles.philly.com/1997-01-08/news/25561459_1_relatives-pregnant-girl-fatherwww.trentonian.com/article/TT/20081205/NEWS/312059987news.google.com/newspapers?nid=894&dat=19971216&id=a8EKAAAAIBAJ&sjid=Gk4DAAAAIBAJ&pg=4915,2589668&hl=en www.websleuths.com/forums/showthread.php?51075-NJ-Celina-Janette-Mays-12-Willingboro-16-Dec-1996-9-mo-pregnantwww.missingin.org/reg3504/celina_janette_mays.htm Admin Note #1: According to missingkids.org, anyone having information should call 1-800-THE-LOST or the Willingboro Police Department (New Jersey) - Missing Persons UnitAdmin Note #2: As of September 14th, 2022, anyone with information on Celina's case can also call or tezt "In Pursuit" on the Investigation Discovery channel at 833-378-7783 and/or submit a tip at the show's website: www.InPursuitTips.com Admin Note #3: If you have any news-related updates on this case, please contact us here: amwfans.com/thread/1662/website-contact-form

According to Michaela's mother's website for her, the sketch of the abductor was done by a police officer's wife without any input from Michaela's friend and eyewitness. Although I don't rule out Loren Herzog, I'm a bit iffy about it.

I find it odd that she would just up and runaway and for what? I'm guessing that she got caught in the middle of the illegal activities in the border and got killed or something along the lines of such.

I'm also suspicious of Penny. If her involvement in drugs are true and the neighbor is correct, Penny may have sold Anthonette for drugs. It's like that it never happened, I just looked at an unsolved case AMW profiled in the late 1990s where a mother sold her daughter for drugs.

This is a very fascinating case. Though I have to agree that due to the incompetence of law enforcement and Noreen's dillusions and conspiracy theories growing because of that, proper investigation is difficult. I've heard a lot of stories surrounding this case. Along with the high profile sex slave factor, Some claim Johnny's father to have kidnapped/killed him to save his marriage with Noreen (which obviously eventually didn't work).
The only way I can believe a pedophile ring (or crime period) in suburban America is that Iowa and Nebraska are smack dab in middle America. Despite the possibility of standing out, Nonurban areas means low population/population density and wide space/isolation which means few witnesses and easier to do the crime and hide it. Plus this is before crime investigation was really modernizing so whoever took Johnny may have had the benefit of unsuspecting law enforcement. One thing to note is that Paul Bonacci claimed to assist Johnny's abduction in 1989. While Noreen believed him, Johnny's father was more skeptical. Paul Bonacci also claimed that Johnny along with other boys had been marked with a "Rocking X".
Some go so far as to claim Johny is alive as infamous columnist Jeff Gannon. As to Paul Bonacci's claims, I think he's lying to gain some fame. I also think the conspiracy theories involving Nebraska are partly the doing of John DeCamp, a fundamentalist and fundamentalists at times dabble in conspiracy theories. Regardless, this is one tough cookie of a case to solve.
