Thoughts? As of this posting date (2/20/2020), McWright is still listed as not in custody/having a murder warrant in Harris County's online court records: www.hcdistrictclerk.com/edocs/public/CaseDetails.aspx?Get=7ZLsWlqMCNhwQsT/1YmPg0upe9d6MrppYaTHnJaPDBru5ZiVUQcheAB/t2CZoenKsrZoKVaXUcFHW8d0p0390BAVwK2pFP62gMxnzzAG2Q5npFdy0H5rA38XOovm0b7GAUg9hJpzM3ZUoxeksGnjopGK8rSzhhdEN02WM8MSw7MHtOygmAYQTQ==
Additional articles mention the victim was 36-year-old Gerald Nsash. This is also an outrageous case as this tragedy may have been completely preventable- McWright was already a parolee who was charged with two felonies just 10 days earlier but posted bond. According to the click2houston.com article, if the parole board had issued a warrant (I'm assuming for violating parole) while McWright was still arrested, he would have still been locked up. In fairness, the article also mentions the parole board defending themselves- that they investigate pre-revocation warrants and that by the time they were notified of McWright's arrest, he had already been released on bond.
My personal opinion is whether it's upgrading a computer system or changing the way business is done, there's got to be a better way. I'm not going to outright assign blame or say it's one agency or judge or person's specific fault (although anyone is more than welcome to share their opinions), but something went wrong somewhere when it shouldn't have. This apparently isn't even the first time Mcwright has been a fugitive as he was on the stophoustongangs website for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon at 22 years old: stophoustongangs.org/default.aspx?act=incidentmapgallerytop10detail.aspx&category=TaskForcePartner&IMID=1839&menugroup=Home
I hope for Gerald Nash's loved ones' sake, McWright is caught. But while justice will be comforting, it won't bring him back and it is very hard to accept when it could have been prevented.
