Details of Disappearance
Baron was last seen in Old Forge, Pennsylvania at 10:00 p.m. on January 25, 2017. After leaving his pizza restaurant, Ghigiarelli's, he dropped off his son at his apartment in town. His son worked with him, and both daughters lived away from home.
Baron didn't return home that night, and his wife assumed he'd spent the night at the apartment above Ghigiarelli's. He often stayed there overnight so he could accept delivery of pizza dough, which arrived at 7:00 a.m. each day. He was supposed to pick up his son the next morning, but never arrived at his son's apartment, and didn't respond to calls and texts. When his son went to the restaurant, he found the pizza dough delivery sitting outside untouched, which is uncharacteristic of Baron's behavior.
Investigators later found evidence of a violent struggle inside the restaurant, including bloodstains, along with indications that someone had tried to clean up with household cleaners. Baron's car, which had bloodstains on the interior, turned up a few days later on Howard Street, less than a mile away. The blood was determined to be Baron's and the amount was said to be "significant"; a tooth in the restaurant's utility sink was also Baron's.
Although the restaurant was a cash business, his family doesn't think he could have been carrying more than a few hundred dollars on the night of his disappearance. His loved ones believe he was killed at Ghigiarelli's in a botched robbery and that several people were involved, but the police haven't named any suspects in his disappearance.
He's considered missing under suspicious circumstances and his case remains unsolved. Ghigiarelli's has never been reopened.
