From wlox.com:
COVINGTON COUNTY, Miss. (WDAM) - The search continues for three inmates who escaped from the Covington County Jail late Wednesday night.
Sheriff Darrell Perkins said 21-year-old Dillon Parr, 32-year-old Alexander Knight and 30-year-old Christopher Love escaped together through a skylight inside the jail around 10:45 p.m.
“There was a sheet they had tied together during the night and climbed up the skylight and opened it up and went out. They bent the bars at the top, and therefore, they escaped," Perkins said.
Perkins said a jailer noticed one of the inmates as they were running away, and deputies started searching for the trio immediately.
The sheriff said the inmates ditched their jail-issued outerwear and were only wearing white T-shirts and boxer shorts as they ran away from the jail.
“They had no shoes when they left the jail. They had flip flops, but they lost the flip flops. They pulled their pants off, their inmate issued pants, and their shirts. They dropped those,” Perkins said.
All three inmates were still at large as of 2:30 p.m. Thursday.
Perkins said deputies have been concentrating the search in areas around U.S. Highway 84, State Route 588 and State Route 590.
Parr, of Mt. Olive, is charged with manslaughter in the November 2018 shooting death of his neighbor, Christopher Hand.
Perkins said Knight, of Seminary, is facing one charge of commercial burglary.
Love, of Hattiesburg, was being held at the jail on a court order, Perkins said.
Perkins said the inmates are not considered to be armed and dangerous, but added people in the area should not give rides or open their homes to anyone they don’t know.
Covington County School District Superintendent Babette Duty said schools were placed on a soft lockdown earlier in the day at the advice of the sheriff’s office, but the lockdown has since been lifted.
If you spot the escapees or have any information on their whereabouts, you’re asked to call the Covington County Sheriff’s Office at 601-765-8281 or dial 911 immediately.
Perkins said the Covington County Jail is currently on lockdown and will likely stay that way through the weekend as staff make security improvements to the facility.
