I'll throw a few more names out there just for discussion: Tamron Hall- Hosts a show on ID channel, has a heartbreaking backstory (her sister was murdered and I believe case was never solved). Matt Doran- The original host of the syndicated crime show "Crime Watch Daily" and hosted an Australian version of AMW. I thought he actually did a good job before he was fired after one season and replaced with Chris Hanson. I think they wanted a bigger name host, but then the show wound up getting canceled anyway. Ironically, I don't think Hanson himself is a viable candidate anymore because of a host of personal issues that made the news, if AMW was being revived in like 2015 or 2016 Hanson might have been the most likely replacement. Also, I know they technically don't have to, but considering how dedicated he was and how he would know best, I do hope they ask John Walsh as to who he would like to see take over. Of course he'll probably say Callahan but if there are any contractual issues since Callahan is on ID who else would JW recommend. I think he's earned the right to at least give his opinion.

Big Brainspark of A Host idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Since this year the crime thriller/drama show "Criminal Minds" is coming to an end how do we feel/think of one of the cast members becoming the new AMW host or hostess?
For example: How about Paget Brewster as the new host/hostess? It makes perfect sense cause in the seasons where she wasn't around she was (in the show) the new head chief of INTERPOL at their London field office (I mean hello!!!!! Interpol is teaming up with Fox for the NEW AMW revival).

I never watched the show but it's not a bad idea to put in the pool of candidates to include actors and actresses from scripted crime drama shows as I already suggested Pauley Perrette as she is already an AMW fan.
I kinda feel guilty considering how much we loved and still love JW that we've speculated so much already lol.
I just hope Fox doesn't make the mistake of going for a big name instead of who would be the best fit. They went against conventions when they chose John Walsh and it paid off. They don't need to purposely hire an unknown or someone else, if they think a big name is the best fit fine, but it's not always the way to do it.

Paget's charector on "Criminal Minds" is SSA Emily Prentiss. Plus I'll also throw in that of maybe Thomas Gibson to be the be host, he too is a "Criminal Minds" veteran, his role was the first SSA in charge Aaron 'Hotch' Hotchner.

Going to throw out a complete wild card, but I recently learned about Lydia Lerma, her son was molested by Andrew Vanderwaal (a fugitive on our site) in Fort Collins, Colorado. She tracked him down in Mexico on her own and later started a foundation called the "Lydia Lerma Foundation" for victims of sexual abuse. She has a fugitive files section on her site as well. Feel like she might fit into that John Walsh non-celebrity advocate category (I know we know him now, but Walsh was not a super famous celebrity in the 80s) and I feel she might be worth a look- a track record of both advocacy and tracking down fugitives. www.lydialerma.org/

We've discussed Fran Drescher with you before lol, but while many people don't know about her tragic backstory, unfortunately most know her as the lady with the screechy voice from a sitcom which is hard to take over. I'm not saying this to be rude but you're probably the only person who ever thinks of her for these shows lol. I'll throw a wild card out there speaking of female actresses though- Pauley Perrette from NCIS- she is a longtime superfan of AMW and has a crime show background even if not a technical victim's advocate. I just think it the idea of a sitcom actress like Fran Drescher doing a crime show is interesting as she usually doesn’t go with those kind of shows, but she did have something very traumatic happen to her. Basically that’s my reason why I always mention her lol. Pauley Perrette and/or Lydia Lerma would make a lot more sense to be honest. What about well known RETIRED police chiefs or FBI special agents across the country? One of them could be a decent candidate, in particular there’s the Top Ten List capture king, Scott Gariolla from the FBI Los Angeles, he would be perfect since it was mentioned in an article last year that he was about to retire, so maybe he has plenty of time on his hands for a show.

I know, but fair or not if there was a headline "Fran Drescher host of AMW" it would get a lot of WTF? reactions lol. Also, I should mention Pauley Perrette did introduce a segment on the one-off John Walsh Investigates special on Lifetime. To me, she came across as nervous, but she's a professional actress and it's understandable to be nervous your first time- I think eventually the jitters would go away.
But yeah when it comes to crime shows like AMW these are usually the categories of potential hosts:
-Actors/Actresses with no technical connection to crime but an authoritative presence/voice
-News media hosts/investigative journalist types (I guess former AMW correspondents like Tom Morris and Michelle Sigona cpuld fit into this category)
-Victims rights advocates
-Law enforcement figures
So based on that, Gariolla would fit the bill. AMW had considered a former Marine Corps general named P.X. Kelley in the 80s before getting JW to finally agree to host.

James Bruno would also be a good candidate, but a lot of his work lately hasn’t been about Bishop, the last time he made any post on Bishop is perhaps when he got removed, don’t get me wrong, I respect James Bruno’s work, but it’s like can you do an update on Bishop or what he even thinks of Bishop’s replacement, Eugene Palmer? Tom Manger, the now ex chief of police from Montgomery County, Maryland (2004-2019) would also be a great candidate, he made national news at times and seems to be very open minded like John Walsh.

In fairness to James Bruno (who is a member of our forum), it seems even the FBI has essentially given up on Brad Bishop.
There's also an open minded Sheriff in Harris County although I'm blanking on his name- I think he criticized the gun violence in our country that might make a good candidate

Sorry I just wanted to put that out there. Anyways I know who your referring to Scumhunter, I forgot his name too, but I was going to say a sheriff from Texas, but I didn’t know if it was Texas or Louisiana.

I doubt Arpaio would be chosen too controversial a figure

In other words, it would be an unpleasant surprise. Although I am aware that Fran Drescher was a rape victim in the '80s, I don't see her as AMW material. If there's any chance of her hosting/narrating a true crime show, maybe one day someone will develop a new true crime show that could be a better fit for her.
Regarding all the talk about an actor/actress as a hypothetical host for AMW, I don't think it would work. I learned from John Walsh's 1997 autobiography Tears of Rage that several actors were considered for the job before he was selected. Among them were: Brian Keith, Brian Dennehy, Theresa Saldana, and Ed Marinaro of Hill Street Blues fame. Of course, Robert Stack worked out well as the longtime host of Unsolved Mysteries, but the nature of that show was different from AMW. During its primetime years, production on UM stopped in the spring for summer hiatus, while AMW was basically in production 12 months a year. What it means is that the work schedule for AMW was generally more demanding than the work schedule for UM, so much so that if an actor/actress were to host AMW, he or she would have to either cut back on his or her acting career or quit acting altogether.
Therefore, it's a good bet that whoever becomes the new host of AMW will most likely not be an actor/actress.

That last bit is why I think AMW is more suitable for a retired police/sheriff.

Two more names I wanted to nominate (For the record I still want Cal or Elizabeth Smart but this is only if they're unavailable):
-Amanda Berry, already does missing segments for the local Fox Cleveland station. Like Elizabeth Smart, would be an example of never giving up hope that justice and/or resolution will one day come
-David Rose, host of Washington's Most Wanted. Already introduced cases for AMW and probably the most well known of the Fox affiliate local most wanted presenters.

Despite this news AMW is NOT on Fox's fall schedule which was just released. I don't know if the current pandemic forced them to scrap plans and/or if they weren't planning on doing the show until next year. This is disappointing news, although with In Pursuit and other shows like Live PD: Wanted it isn't as devastating a blow as in the past. I think AMW is like Unsolved Mysteries in that the show will always be perpetually on and off the air (and Unsolved Mysteries still isn't back yet either- despite supposedly coming on Netflix) even if it takes 20 years for the next version of it, but for now we unfortunately have to wait. www.google.com/amp/s/ew.com/tv/fox-2020-fall-schedule/%3famp=true
