COMANCHE COUNTY, Okla. —
A search is underway in the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge for a man linked to the death of a Norman child, officials said.
According to Norman police, officers responded at about 10:43 a.m. Wednesday to check on the welfare of a 2-year-old boy in the 700 block of Vicksburg Avenue. Officers arrived and found the boy not breathing inside a home. EMSSTAT responded and begin providing CPR. The child was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to police.
According to authorities, while the child was at the hospital, investigators discovered signs of possible child abuse and physical trauma.
The initial investigation led investigators to believe the child had been in the care of the mother’s live-in boyfriend, 38-year-old Christopher James Trent, at the time of the abuse. Trent was not at the home when officers arrived.
Investigators said they began working to locate Trent Wednesday afternoon. Overnight, investigators received an arrest warrant for Trent for a complaint of first-degree murder.
Trent’s vehicle was found in Medicine Park, Wednesday night. However, Trent remains outstanding, according to Norman police.
Norman police have requested the assistance of the Park Rangers, Oklahoma Highway Patrol, and the Sheriff’s Office to complete a search by ground and air for Trent in the area of the Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge. This search is ongoing.
Anyone with information regarding Trent's whereabouts or the investigation is asked to contact Norman Crime Stoppers at 405-366-STOP (7867).
According to the Comanche County Emergency Management officials, Trent is considered extremely dangerous. The sheriff's office is advising that residents near the refuge should use extreme caution when leaving their home and to report any suspicious activity to the Sheriff's Office or 911.
As of Thursday afternoon, Trent has not been found, according to the Comanche County Sheriff's Office. Entrances to the park will reopen Thursday night to vehicle traffic.
Authorities said they have suspended foot search for Thursday and will resume at 8 a.m. Friday. It's unclear if Trent is in the refuge or if he's been able to get out of the area.

Thoughts? We have our first breaking news case regarding an alleged crime committed in the new decade and unfortunately it is an extremely heartbreaking story, but also a concerning manhunt for local residents.
Trent was still at large at least as of January 2nd, 2020, but just so we have another way of tracking there is a "criminal miscellaneous filing" from January 2nd, 2020 in Oklahoma and Cleveland County's online court records against a Christopher Trent, which I feel has to be related to this overall case: www.oscn.net/dockets/GetCaseInformation.aspx?db=cleveland&number=MI-2020-6&cmid=2341495
