In the end, I decided on James Ray Renton and Steven Ray Allen. Now I have to flip 2 coins, and take the best 2 out of 3 on each one. First, if Heads, Unterreiner, and if tails, Renton. Second, if heads, Noel. If tails, Allen. And the results are, TTT and HTH. That means Renton and Noel advance to the Finals!
James Ray Renton, #22, Spt 6, 1988 An Arkansas cop killer on the US Marshals' 15 Most Wanted list. He had escaped from several prisons starting in 1985. During a jailbreak in July 1988, he escaped a maximum security prison. He was busted in Austin, Texas, sleeping at night in a Salvation Army shelter barracks. He's now serving life without parole.
vs
James Edward Noel, #97, Fbr 26, 1990 After being charged with raping at least 5 women, he was paroled. In October 1989, he killed a woman in Los Angeles after failing in his attempts to rape her. The victim was an apartment manager whose co-manager eventually became the infamous Hollywood Madam. He was busted in California and is now serving life with no chance of parole. The eventual Hollywood Madam was later given an interview where she talked at length about her late friend.
Whoever wins this final match-up is our vote for Best of the 1st Century of Captures besides the obvious ones David James Roberts and John Emil List!
As for me, I pick James Edward Noel because he was a sexual deviant and his victim had a connection to the Hollywood Madam.

This one's a toughie; both are very violent fugitives and their captures were both celebrated (I think both were profiled on Final Justice; I know for sure Noel was).
By a hair, I'm going to vote for Noel. Renton's crime as a cop killer was despicable, but after that his only crimes were jailbreaks. Noel, on the other hand, was a serial sex offender whose crimes eventually led to murder. So Noel just barely gets my vote.

Besides the glaringly obvious David James Roberts and John Emil List, the next best capture of the 1st Century of Captures is James Edward Noel, the serial rapist whose sex crime wave escalated to the murder of the eventual Hollywood Madam's past apartment co-manager. Thanks for voting, everyone! The preliminary round of the 2nd Century contest is scheduled to begin this Friday, on July 25. I call that day "Christmas in July". Tune in Friday, then speak up or forever hold your peace!

Jesse Morrison and Michael Berry (#104-105) would be a good replacement for Marti Greer (#146) since their causality total was (one dead, one wounded), Morrison got death and their case was featured on the crimes of passion FOX two-hour special (I think).

I guess we can start then.
Kenneth Cole, #110, May 10, 1990 An ex-babysitter. In April 1989, he abducted a 5 year old girl he was obsessed with named Nicole Ravesi from Massachusetts. A campsite owner in Eastpoint, Florida recognized him and busted him. Ravesi was AMW Missing Recovery #1.
vs
Alan David Hurwitz, #192, Mrc 16, 1992 The Unknown Midwest Zombie Bandit. AMW's first Direct Capture of an Unknown fugitive was once a well-respected educator who fell into a cocaine habit, then robbed 18 banks in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio. In the winter of 1992, he was busted between Lansing and Detroit, Michigan. He's now serving 17 years for 4 more December 2008 bank robberies in Oregon and NorCal.
and
Scott Anthony Haneline, #109, May 10, 1990 A military deserter. In late May 1982, a woman hired him to kill her ex-husband, a soldier stationed in Fort Stewart, Georgia. He was busted in Monticello, Indiana, where he was recovering after he accidentally shot his hand.
vs
Jerry Donald Dowe, #115, Ags 7, 1990 In 1978, he blasted a Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer with a shotgun, but the Mountie survived. He went to prison, and fatally shanked a fellow inmate in 1983, then escaped in 1988. He was busted in Canada.
The first match-up was easy. Though Kenneth Cole didn't seem like a homicide risk from what I've heard about the case, it was nevertheless a monumental capture because of AMW's first missing child recovery. Hurwitz may have been AMW's first Unknown capture, but he doesn't seemed to have learned the error of his ways after those robberies in the autumn of '008.
The second match-up was a little harder. Haneline was a deserter wanted for murder for hire of another soldier, whereas Jerry Donald Dowe had a casualty toll of 1 dead, 1 wounded, but Dowe's mortal victim was a fellow inmate, so I feel less pity for that victim. Even though Dowe also wounded a Mountie, I'll vote for Scott Anthony Haneline.

The first match-up goes to Cole. It's a match-up of two historic firsts- AMW's first capture that also recovered a missing child along with AMW's first ever unknown capture. But to capture a missing child is the best of both worlds and protecting children is in my opinion the most important part of AMW, so I vote for Cole.
Second was harder. Thankfully the Mountie survived, otherwise I would vote for Dowe. Haneline's victim that died was a completely innocent citizen, so I vote for Haneline.

I'm voting for Cole and Haneline for the reasons above. However I acknowledge that Dowe's capture was cool since he was the first caught fugitive wanted out of Canada (where I live).

It's July 25. Merry Christmas in July! Here is the preliminary bracket for the 2nd century of Direct Captures. This is the race for Best Capture from #100 to #199 besides Vergilio Pablo Paz-Romero: Kenneth Cole (#110) Alan David Hurwitz (#192) Scott Anthony Haneline (#109) Jerry Donald Dowe (#115) Gerald Ray Reeves (#129) Billy Ray Riggs and Hilda Sims-Riggs (#186/#187) Kelvin L Bryant (#156) Stanley W Beatty (#184) Thomas Ludd Findley (#132) Roger Bobsie Hanson (#137) Jesse Morrison and Michael Berry (#104/#105) Darryl "Mutt" Smith (#157) Gregory Tarkenton (#169) William Cecil Brandon Jr (#199) Vincent A Giattino (#162) John Barrett Hawkins (#163) Segundo Balaguer "Cuco" Matias (#100) Jessie Lee Baker (#175) Henrietta Marie Ganote (#172) Neil Wilson Wilding (#198) Orlando Maisonet (#120) Milton Gabriel English (#183) Charles Anthony Hoffman (#121) Gary and Orlando Fernandez and Maria DeLoris Monserrate (#180/#181/#182) Gandhi Guzman (#106) Steven E King (#158) Wardell David Ford (#118) Robert Thomas Nauss (#123) John Alexander "Dean" Riccardi (#134) Joaquin Carlos Amelo-Brito (#189) Carl Anthony Terry (#161) Cesar Uriel Mazariego-Molina (#197) Anyone want to petition to replace one of these before I begin the next face-off? I highly suggested you replaced Jesse Morrison and Michael Berry, They were mentitoned in AMW'S Crimes of Passions Special in 2011, Why don't you replace them, put Marti Greer instead, She killed her Boy-friend in cold blooded and arrested and convicted of his murder, She escaped from prison along with Lisa Dawn Harris, They later Captures by AMW Viewers. and Why don't you Replaced John "Dean Riccardi instead, He already mentitoned many times on AMW'S through out the years, I suggested you put William Joseph Moore as his replacement, He was wanted for murder when he was hired to beat the man's ex-wife to death and staged his own death, But he later captured by AMW Viewers when AMW'S aired his case

You're too late, Windler! I gave the opportunity to petition for a replacement before the face-off began!
Anyways, Kenneth Cole and Scott Anthony Haneline shut out Alan David Hurwitz and Jerry Donald Dowe, and will face off in round 2.
Next match!
Gerald Ray Reeves, #129, Dcb 8, 1990 A delinquent juvenile. By age 16, he had a mile-long rap sheet, mostly for robbery and theft. At age 20, he escaped a youth reform camp. In April 1990, he robbed a sunglasses salesman in Hollywood, California, and stabbed him to death. Over the next 7 months, he stayed on the run by using bisexual charms to convince men and women to let him crash at their homes for a few days, and stole from them instead. He was busted in Reno, Nevada, taking a vacation at the Circus Circus Hotel and Casino. He sobbed in the courtroom in an attempt to buy sympathy as he was sentenced to life without parole.
vs
Billy Ray Riggs and Hilda Sims Riggs, #186/#187, Jnr 17, 1992 Billy, a car mechanic, collaborated with his wife in April 1990 to steal a car at whatever cost. They lured a young woman and took her out to dinner, kidnapped her, and shot her death on the Arizona Interstate highway in order to steal her Volkswagen. The body was found in a citrus grove. They were busted in Los Angeles, California before they had a chance to eat some Chinese takeout. The box of food was found on their table, still warm. Billy was condemned to death, and Hilda was sentenced to 1/4 century to life.
and
Kelvin L Bryant, #156, Jne 22, 1991 In February 1991, he and several men abducted and murdered a Miami assistant policeman's sister. Cops quickly rounded up all the other suspects, but Kelvin got away for 4 months, until AMW busted him in Florida. He's now serving life in prison.
vs
Stanley W Beatty, #184, Dcb 19, 1991 In July 1990, he shot into a crowd in Sacramento. A college football star was killed, 3 were wounded, and 200 were unharmed. He was also a person of interest in 1 other wounding. In Brooklyn, New York, he saw himself on America's Most Wanted, called a lawyer, and arranged a surrender in a church.
I might have to reserve voting on these until I see more convincing arguments.
