I wasn't quite sure where to put this, but former Shelby County Medical Examiner OC Smith died this past July. Smith was at the center of one of the most bizarre crimes AMW ever profiled. In 2002, Smith was found wrapped in barbed wire with a bomb strapped to his chest. AMW aired the case once in an attempt to find who did it. In 2004, Smith was actually charged with faking the entire incident. His trial ended in a hung jury, and he was never re-tried.

I really don't know what to think about this case, but whatever happened, it's sad to see the news of Smith's passing.

Surprised I don't remember this case considering I watched AMW from 1996 up to final cancellation, but the Brian Wells saga probably clouded my memory since that similar event was obviously even more intense and memorable.
