Authorities in Raleigh, North Carolina are trying to identify the killer of Jennifer Kathleen Nielsen. AMW aired this case three times shortly after it happened.

Jennifer who was eight-months pregnant along with her husband and two young sons had recently moved from Salt Lake City to North Carolina. She recently had started a job delivering newspapers in the early morning hours for USA Today. On Jun 14, 2007, she had stopped at a food mart when she was attacked and stabbed in the neck. A fellow newspaper carrier had found her car and called police, that's when authorities found the half-naked body of Jennifer in the back of the store. Both Jennifer and her unborn son had died.

Witnesses saw a man at the crime scene around the time Jennifer was murdered. At time of the crime, he was described as being approximately 17-20 years of age, 5'3, 120 lbs and with long shiny black hair in a ponytail. Authorities believe this man is Hispanic but with light skin. They want to find out who he is and question him regarding this case. Soon after the murder, a Spanish-speaking man called 911 dispatchers from a pay-phone and said he had information regarding the crime, however this person never called again.

Thoughts? This case is really horrible and it doesn't appear that many leads have come in during the past seven years. My biggest concern is that Jennifer's killer may have wanted to rape her as well, based on that she was half-naked. This is a very dangerous person and needs to be put behind bars.

It sounds like to me that Jennifer might have died in the process of fighting off an attacker who was attempting to abduct and/or rape her. It's a terrible situation whenever a woman is a sexual assault victim- as there are really only two options depending on the situation to stay alive- let the man rape her hoping he won't kill her (he'll let her go for being "cooperative" even though he had no right to violate her in the first place)- or not take any chances and fight back since the man may kill her anyway. Jennifer had an unborn baby to protect, so the latter may have been her only option- and sadly it still ended in tragedy.

Curious about that man on the pay phone. Unfortunately, it's not usually helpful since it's not the person's regular number. I've seen so many of these cases where the mysterious caller usually is the killer. But then again, the person may have used the cell phone since they wanted to remain anonymous.

Jenna Nielsen's murder was one of those cases where AMW concentrated on it a ton when it first happened, and then never again. As Derek said, AMW featured the case three times; twice in August and once in September. (One profile was an APB, one was a breaking news update and the third was a full profile). I think at one point USA Today even offered a reward in the case, but I don't know if it's still standing or not.

Of all the unsolved murders AMW has profiled over the years, I'm surprised this case hasn't gotten more publicity. There's a decent sketch in the case, and it seems like this shouldn't be that difficult to solve. I wish AMW had profiled this case in 2008, when everybody and their grandma was watching the show. Maybe that would have led to some progress on the case.
