First of all, I'm not trying to diss religion (I consider myself Jewish but non-practicing) but praying instead of taking action won't solve the problem. I've said it in the thread about gun violence and mass shootings in the U.S. Too many times people offer thoughts and prayers instead of asking our politicians to get off their butts and do something. There is nothing wrong with offering prayers to comfort victims, and I don't like when people mock thoughts and prayers, but there needs to he actions in addition to words.
The issue is not optimism and prayers not working, the issue is inaction of politicians from both parties when it comes to violence, immigration reform (providing a path to citizenship for law-abiding immigrants from other countries while not making ot so easy for the criminal ones to come back and forth), violence etc... And until congress can stop fighting with each other and try to do better we will see more preventable tragedies happen.
I consider myself a generally optimistic person but I do admit it has been trying at times.
