Ortega escaped from the custody of the Massachusetts DOC in 1991. At the time of his escape, he was serving a 14-15 year state prison term for trafficking in cocaine. Ortega is described as a Hispanic male, 5 ft. 6 in. tall, 180 pounds, black hair and brown eyes. His date of birth is June 6, 1965. His last known address is in Lowell, Massachusetts but he is believed to be in Columbia.
