The father of one of two missing children, whose mother was found fatally shot in Detroit earlier this week, has been taken into custody in Georgia, a person familiar with the investigation told the Free Press.
Wednesday night, while executing a second search warrant in as many days on the home Alicia Fox once shared with her family, authorities found a bullet lodged in a wall, which had been freshly patched and painted, the source said.
Authorities also determined that blood was spattered on the ceiling of an upstairs bedroom at the home on Ardmore, where Fox lived with her two children and Erin Justice, the father of her 8-month old.
Justice is being held in the Fulton County Jail in Georgia, according to jail records online.
The 5' 11," 230 pound man was booked Wednesday on a fugitive from justice charge, an inmate listing record says.
This comes a day after authorities said Justice was interviewed in Georgia. Detroit FBI spokesman David Porter said agents from the FBI Atlanta Field Office interviewed Justice, who “voluntarily consented to an interview,” but had not been arrested at that point.
Police continue to search for Fox’s missing children, 6-year-old Kaylah Hunter and 8-month-old Kristian Justice.
Detroit police plan to have an update on the case Thursday, but declined to provide additional details about their investigation Wednesday night. Detroit police spokesman Officer Adam Madera said any updates in the case would be provided during a briefing Thursday.
Fox, 27, was found wrapped in blankets underneath a door in an abandoned home in the 6800 block of Penrod on Monday. She had suffered multiple gunshot wounds, including two to her head, according to the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office.
On Wednesday, police scoured areas of Penrod and Ardmore.
A section of Ardmore was blocked off with yellow police tape. Investigators searched the backyard after finding loose dirt, but they came up empty this evening.
“We’re purely here for evidence and to try to be as thorough as possible,” said Detroit Police Capt. Eric Decker.
On Wednesday evening, authorities had said they planned to go back through the home to make sure they “haven’t missed anything,” Decker said.
He said officials are looking for “any evidence of a homicide.”
Wednesday, on Penrod, a FBI Evidence Response Team picked through the tall brush in the backyard of the Penrod home, where Fox’s decomposed body was found in the basement. Authorities searched behind multiple homes on the street, as well.Police also brought cadaver dogs to both scenes.
Fox’s family members found her body. Her uncle previously told the Free Press that the family had received an anonymous tip that Fox might have been in the area.
Gwendolyn Giles, who said she is Kaylah’s father’s cousin, was outside of the home on Penrod today.
She called Kaylah is a beautiful, sweet girl.
“It’s devastating,” Giles said of the child’s disappearance. “Heartbreaking.”
Her family is still “hoping for the best, but it’s not looking good,” she said.
Authorities are also looking for Fox’s burgundy Chevy Impala, which has a license plate of CCR 1286.
Christene Doughty, Fox’s sister, said she’s getting through with the support of her family.
“I just got to hope for the best and suspect the worst,” she said.
