Derrick Lavasseur, a contestant on Big Brother who wound up winning, is a retired narcotics detective from Providence, RI. He featured this case on his podcast.
youtu.be/RwDhF4wmuO0?si=Ie-1P8eV_u37CuLTHis research was immaculate, and I suspect he did a microfiche search. Here is some information that was originally reported in Las Cruces, but may not have been reported nationally:
1) The gunmen entered the bowling alley just prior to 8:20 A.M. on February 10th, 1990;
2) The re-enactment on AMW is accurate in the sense that the killers first confronted the victims (Amy and Melissa) at the vending machines. Melissa treated the men as customers and asked if she could help them, and they then produced .22 pistols;
3) Ida Holguin was pistol-whipped several times in the head by the gunman who brought her to the office;
4) Two of the seven victims were not shot in the head. My best guess from reading numerous articles and watching the film A Nightmare in Las Cruces is that Steven Teran and Melissa Repass were the two victims who were not shot in the head;
5) Several witnesses saw a suspicious tan or green-colored van or utility vehicle being driven by two men around the time of the murders;
6) The shooters fled through the back door of the alley once they had shot all seven victims;
7) Numerous eyewitnesses came forward and said on the night of February 2nd, 1990, they saw two men in the alley who strongly resembled the composite sketches, and one of the men made a pass at Stephanie Senac;
8) Ron Senac was highly uncooperative as the investigation carried on (I want to stress, I am NOT indicating he had anything to do with this crime. I’m only stating what was said in the podcast), and police often had to track him down to meet with him;
9) Ron Senac was $1,500,000 in debt at the time of the murders, and he reopened the alley just days after the massacre;
10) Again, same disclaimer: R.J., Ron’s son and a bartender at the bowling alley was reportedly dependent on cocaine at the time of the massacre, and he was reportedly “blank-faced” during the interview. Some evidence reportedly surfaced indicating R.J. had made drug transactions at the bowling alley. R.J. has since passed away as the result of a drug overdose;
11) Numerous witnesses indicated they saw Ron Senac associating with very sketchy characters in the alley in the months leading up to the massacre;
12) The Killers were reportedly very nervous according to Ida Holguin. She said they missed several times before she was finally shot;
13) Although both gunmen spoke perfect English, they spoke Spanish between one another.
Lavasseur’s theory? Drug-related homicides not the result of any criminal activity by the victims. Lavasseur worked as a narcotics detective for years, and he said that Ida Holguin’s recollection that the shooters were going through cabinets looking for something was a dead-giveaway that they were expecting to find drugs at the alley and steal them.
This almost makes me wonder if someone working at the alley has ripped off drugs from someone else and the gunmen were tasked with getting it back.
