I realize I'm showing my age here but growing up I was part of the generation where MTV still played music videos and I was a big fan of watching them. Unfortunately the channel for the most part is trash now but with all the morbid topics we usually talk about I figured I should once again post a lighter subject for off-topic and ask, for any of us that are old fogies like me that watched music videos or watches them on YouTube what their favorites were.
For me personally, my all-time favorite music video was Soundgarden's "Black Hole Sun" in the 1990s, great band great song and it was the perfect blend of humor and fun special effects.
Second is probably Jamiroquai's "Virtual Insanity", with special effects including a moving platform while theead singer danced (Jamiroquai was a band and not one guy as some people mistakenly think) that was ahead of its time. (Although it was ironic they used great special effects for a song that was railing against technology- but stil an amazing video)
Also to get it out of the way, his legacy and controversies aside, Michael Jackson's "Thriller" is generally considered the standard-bearer for music videos. (Between him and Bill Cosby, it feels like we can't watch anything from the 80s anymore) There was no denying his talent, but as far as the "other stuff" about him, I'd save it for another thread or post a new thread if you want to talk about that and just focus on discussing music videos for this thread.

I'm part of the younger generation in physical and psychiatric (not chronological) age, and unfortunately, by '006 or '008, the rise of online media crashed the market for music videos on TV, and MTV as a network got sold to the producers of My Super Sweet 16, whose silver lining was that it led to Episode #1011, Hell On Earth 2006. I could watch any music video I wanted, ads notwithstanding, but nothing's been drawing me to watch them spontaneously. And frankly, I don't know enough about the history of music videos to have a favorite.
