Vera had not been reported as missing. It was initially reported by authorities that Vera drowned in Ship Creek and had been found on a fishing ladder. The police have since changed her classification to homicide. Neighbors described Vera as a very agreeable person who liked to volunteer at the local soup kitchen. They reported Vera as being a "good swimmer" who was an unlikely candidate for drowning. She waitress-ed at Bean's Cafe at the time of her death.
