From The Daily Californian:
Thursday marked the nine-year anniversary of the unsolved murder of Adolfo Ignacio Celedón Bravo, which occurred the morning of Sept. 12, 2010, his 35th birthday.
Celedón, known to his friends and family as “Fito,” was murdered about 3:40 a.m. at the intersection of Adeline and Emerson Streets, according to a Nixle alert sent out Thursday. Celedón was a Chilean native who moved to Berkeley to be with his fiancée, then-UC Berkeley graduate student Amber Nelson, who was with him at the time of his murder.
Two male suspects allegedly confronted Celedón and Nelson near the Ashby BART station on the morning of Sept. 12, 2010 with the intent of robbing the couple on their way back from a party.
“Detectives remain hopeful that a member of the community will come forward with information,” the alert said. “Even the smallest detail could prove critical in solving this case.”
The current reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect or suspects in connection to Celedón’s murder is $50,000, according to the Nixle alert. In 2018, the reward was $15,000.
Berkeley Police Department spokesperson Officer Byron White said witnesses could be unwilling to come forward with information. He added that the increase in the reward was made in hopes that it could encourage witnesses with information to come forward.
White said the case still has no leads.
“In general, Homicide investigations can take a while to solve because witnesses may be reluctant to come forward,” White said in an email. “We … have increased the reward amount to $50k in the hope that it will encourage someone to come forward with information.”
