Authorities in Florida have new leads in the case of an unidentified woman who was murdered over 40 years ago. The case was aired on Unsolved Mysteries, however I'm pretty sure it didn't get an AMW profile.
On Feb 19, 1971, two teenagers who were hitchhiking along Interstate 75 found the body of a young woman who was tossed from the Lake Panasoffkee bridge. She had been strangled with a man's size 36 belt which was still around her throat and was believed to have been killed two to three weeks before she was found. She was described as being white and possibly mixed with native as well, and around 17-24 years old.
Ten years after she was found, the case was re-opened and a new investigation was launched. It was discovered that she had orthopedic surgery to her right ankle and had given birth to at least one child. Despite sketches, including age-regressed ones being sent around the United States, and the profile on Unsolved Mysteries in the early 90s, she still remained unidentified.
In 2012, investigators examined her isotopes and revealed some very important details about the woman's life. She had likely grown up in Europe and was most likely from Greece, probably the small town of Lavrion, which is south of Athens. They came to this conclusion because of lead found in the isotopes, and Lavrion is known for high levels of lead contamination due to mining operations in the region. It's believed she came to the United States, one to three months before she was murdered.

Thoughts? It's cool to see such new updates in one of these really old UM cases. The isotope analysis isn't perfect, but it's quite possible that it's accurate. Does that mean she was traveling with her killer in the United States, or did she become a runaway after coming to the US, which was an assumption by investigators. While her killer is most likely elderly or dead by now, it would still be important to at least identify Little Miss Panasoffkee, and close this case by naming her killer.
