Thoughts? As of today, August 28, 2019, Ernesto Palacios still has a listed active warrant in the Florida Statewide Warrants Search. Thankfully they also added his photo which was preventing me before from posting this case when I was doing my last name searches. The Polk County Court Records also shows this case as in "open status". I will include both of those links below so we can keep track of this case. What surprises me is that this case is not included on the Florida Highway Patrol Most Wanted list, which is reserved for DUI Manslaughter and Vehicular Homicide cases. All that tells me is that Florida has so many of these cases that they can't include them all unfortunately. Also the one thing I couldn't tell from the Polk County court records is if Ernesto had pled guilty, been found guilty or was still awaiting a verdict when he fled. The reason I bring this up was that on November 22, 2002, there are docket entries for "no trial required" and "negotiated plea agreement". If someone could elaborate on this it would be appreciated. pas.fdle.state.fl.us/pas/restricted/PAS/person/WantedPersons.jsfpro.polkcountyclerk.net/PRO/PublicSearch/Details/7lznEv075QwXRRysYk4A6H2c2spFzIUMDDxvLOW27-27-61Q%3d

It also doesn't help that the only picture we have of him may have been taken when Villanueva-Palacios might've been in his teens.

He was to be sentenced when his lawyer asked the judge to wait until after the holidays "Christmas " so that he could spend it with his family. Judge agreed and he was never to be seen again.

Hi lyohe,
Thanks for joining the forum.
That is outrageous. I wish I could say I'm surprised, but we've unfortunately seen way too many cases like this, and unfortunately especially in Florida. It is still no excuse and absolutely mind-blowing stupidity to let him out before sentencing.
Do you know if anything is being done to locate Palacios? 912thamwuser is an excellent poster who usually makes solid insights, but I respectfully disagree with him and feel Ernesto looks older than his teens in that photo, however if anyone could put out an age-enhanced sketch of what he would look like today in his 50s I'm hoping it could help a little.

Hello Lyohe, I also wanted to thank you for joining the forum. Thank you as well for mentioning how Ernesto went on the run during his court proceedings. As Scumhunter said, it was absolutely ridiculous that the judge agreed with Ernesto's attorney. He's gotten away with killing Matthew and Heath for all these years and that's really unacceptable. Finally, I wanted to say that a relative of Matthew or Heath can submit the case to Project: Cold Case if they wish. They are a non-profit organization based out of Jacksonville, Florida that I support. I would recommend any relative of Matthew or Heath to read about the organization to see if they could get assistance from their services. - projectcoldcase.org/- www.facebook.com/Projectcoldcase

Thank you both so much. Matt was my fiance and my kids father. To this date I call the courthouse for any updates and as of now I really don't think that anything is being done on finding him. The pic posted was taken when he was arrested.

Just wanted to also state that, although I stress I can't promise anything, we're technically a fan page for In Pursuit that also covers other fugitive cases we find online, I do have a contact at In Pursuit and forwarded Matthew's case for consideration. Unfortunately they have to turn down hundreds of cases a week and when I've forwarded cold cases in the past they've told me they usually prefer more recent cases to profile (within the part ten or so years), but at least they'll see a request was made. They do enjoy cases where they get to call out idiot judges for what it's worth.
