Garland County authorities are searching Saturday for a man who they say fatally shot a woman and injured a man and a 20-month-old Wednesday. Steven Swanigan, 30, is wanted on charges of capital murder and aggravated residential burglary in the shooting that left Mayela Mata dead, the Garland County sheriff's office Lt. James Martin said in a statement. Swanigan, described as 6 foot 2 and 180 pounds, was last seen about 5:45 a.m. Saturday morning at the Economy Inn at 820 E. Oak St. in Conway, from where he fled wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and blank pants, deputies said. The shooting happened about 5 p.m. Wednesday at an apartment complex at 200 Springwood Road outside Hot Springs. Mata, 26, and a man whose identity has not been released were taken to a Hot Springs hospital, where Mata died and the man was treated and released, Martin said. The toddler was airlifted to a Little Rock hospital in stable-but-critical condition, but an update on the child's condition wasn't given Saturday. The Garland County sheriff's office is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to Swanigan's arrest and conviction. Those with information on his whereabouts are urged to call 911 or the sheriff's office's anonymous tip line at (501) 622-3674. He is considered armed and dangerous and shouldn't be approached, deputies said. www.arkansasonline.com/news/2014/may/03/man-sought-shooting-2-adults-20-month-old/?f=crimewww.katv.com/story/25435089/police-still-searching-for-murder-suspect

It's tough to deal with all these tragic cases lately. However, it's important to make the public aware of them. A triple shooting has left a young woman dead and a toddler shot and justice needs to prevail for all the victims. Even Swanigan's mother who maintains her son's innocence is urging that he turns himself in. Hopefully he hears her plea.

This is another extremely tragic case. It's sad that if he is responsible, a rehabiliation attempt didn't work in the end, and his return to crime left three people shot, including a toddler, and the woman died.

I always stress I don't want to sound egotistical enough to compare this site to what AMW did, but through researching for the site, I feel like I now have at least an inkling of what staff had to go through in dealing with reporting on crime. It gets to be a bit much after a while. It isn't easy, and I understand John Walsh explaining AMW received so many tragic cases they had to turn down hundreds of them a week even more now.
