Cold Case Specialists Take On 1998 Murder
For more than a decade, the rape and murder of National Academy of Sciences intern Christine Mirzayan has baffled Washington, D.C., police. But now, detectives Tony Brigadini and Todd Williams, two of the investigators who solved the cold case murders of Congressional intern Chandra Levy and Government lawyer Joyce Chiang, are digging up new clues to identify Christine's killer.
The renewed search led inspectors to a remote area along the Potomac River, where cops say Christine was killed back in August 1998.
On Aug. 1, 1998, Christine attended a cookout with her fellow interns from the National Academy of Science. Christine wasn't feeling well and investigators say she walked home when her friends decided to hit the town.
Christine walked home alone. But according to witnesses, Christine wasn't at all alone. She was being stalked. Witnesses told authorities they saw a man skulking behind her in the dark.
Christine never made it home that night and her roommate filed a missing person report.
The next day, officers discovered Christine's naked corpse in a patch of woods near the Key Stone Memorial Bridge. Investigators claim she was raped and bludgeoned to death with a 70-pound boulder.
Witnesses provided police with a sketch, but the suspect has yet to be identified.
Cops: Killer Linked To 9 Other Rapes
Police have linked her attacker to nine other rapes in Metro D.C. area.
Police are now focusing on all the details they can muster up on this rapist turned murderer. Victims and witnesses say he is an extremely strong and athletic male capable of scaling buildings if necessary.
Police say, in most cases, he studies his victims, learns their names and their daily schedules. Police believe he even stalks prior to his assaults. As the years have passed since the first rape -- which occurred on May 6, 1991 -- his sexual assaults have become more and more violent in nature. Obviously, the most violent attack was the rape and murder of Christine.
Most recently, police linked her attack to a 1996 attack that took place in the Palisades neighborhood of Washington D.C. Police managed to generate a composite sketch after the attack.
Police are hoping people, or even survivors who have never come forward, will contact them with information that may lead to this monsters arrest.

Thoughts? First some interesting side notes. Tony Brigadini, a detective on this case, is a longtime friend of AMW, having solved the Sharon Moskowitz murder case. Also, he helped the solve the Joyce Chiang case as well. Joyce's brother Roger was AMW's Executive-in-Charge the last few years that the show was on Lifetime.
Despite a $25,000 reward from the FBI and an in-depth profile on AMW on Lifetime in 2012, this cold case remains unsolved.
The Potomac River Rapist is said to be a black man between 5'8-5-11 with a medium build. He would be in his late 40's or early 50's today. Police believe he lived in the area at the time of the attacks.
It does seem weird no known attacks have happened since 1998, since we all know these guys don't stop. Could this man have moved to a different neighborhood? Wound up in prison for another crime? Or even passed away? It's hard to say, but if he's still out there, there's a high likelihood there are even more victims we don't know about since before or after 1998 and he needs to be caught.
