"Lewellan escaped from the Women"s Correctional Institution on February 26, 1977, in Columbia,SC. She has an extensive criminal background dating back to 1957. She has been arrested inFlorida, Georgia, Tennessee, Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. Her crimes include:Grand Larceny, Forgery, Altering Government Checks, and Kidnapping. She also escaped from theGeorgia Department of Corrections on March 5, 1975. In 1980, newspapers reported that there werenumerous sightings of Lewallen in McGuiresville, Arizona; Big Sandy, Wyoming, and Sprague,Washington."

Thoughts? As can be seen in the above link, Lewallen is still listed as an escapee on the South Carolina DOC website as of this posting date (7/10/2019). Also I realize if still alive she's an elderly woman. In no way excusing her past or condoning it, she's probably no longer a threat, however we don't always post cases here because something someone did is the worst or the worst, or they're a huge danger but sometimes we a post a case because they are interesting cases for discussion.
And I figure this case that surprisingly doesn't seem to be talked about much online, a female escapee and career criminal from 40 years ago, possibly someone assumes is some sweet grandma if still alive, would be an interesting case for discussion. (Once again, not condoning her crimes but I do find it a pretty unique fugitive case).
