Admin Note #1: As of this edit (12/10/2017), Mark and Bryan are 25 years old if still alive.
Mark Degner and Bryan Hayes have been missing ever since they disappeared from their school in 2005. AMW aired this case on Mar 19, 2005.
12-year old Mark and 13-year old Bryan, both developmentally disabled students at a Jacksonville, Florida middle school, disappeared from the school on Feb 10, 2005. The two boys told friends that they planned on running away from the school and a woman said her nephew was also planning on running away with Mark and Bryan. Bryan had ran away for short periods of time in the past. After a few weeks had passed, authorities believed the two boys had possibly met with foul play due to the amount of time they were missing and due to their medical problems, both boys suffered from bipolar disorder and required daily medication and Bryan had a blue cast over his hand because of a broken thumb. The last publicly commented sighting of the two boys was in Holly Hill, Florida in April 2005 where they were sitting on the grass with bedrolls and fishing poles, and eating junk food, investigators were "very confident" that the sighting was accurate.
Thoughts? This April 2005 sighting is what makes this case very bizarre. I checked and it takes at least an hour and 21 minutes to get from Jacksonville to Holly Hill, Florida. How two preteen boys, that are both developmentally disabled and suffer from bipolar disorder, can turn up so far away and seem pretty okay doesn't make any sense. I did notice something interesting though. Bryan was originally from Port Orange, Florida which is approximately 10 minutes from Holly Hill. The only possibility that makes sense is that the two boys were getting help from a relative or friend of Bryan, but it doesn't explain what happened to them after April 2005.
