Fugitivehunter666 complained we have too many general crime topics/non-true crime show but still crime topics for the off-topic section and not enough non-crime discussion topics so I thought I'd help him out and post although a very general topic, still a standard thing to ask and ask what everybody's favorite movie or movies are. I generally only watch like comic book movies now so I'm not a movie buff to really comment, but all-time, I feel The Shawshank Redemption is still undefeated. There's another movie I feel is still great over time but the first rule is I'm not supposed to talk about it.

My first favorite movie that I just adored when I could start watching 'R' rated movies was the police horror/thriller "HOSTAGE" which starred Bruce Willis and Kevin Pollack as well as Ben Foster.

Once I get back to my laptop, I'll attempt to upload my list of favorite films to this post. UPDATE: I'm limited to 3 uploads per post. I'll have to start with the latest period in cinema, the Dystopian Era, which started in '000 and continues to the present. It's the only era I have a Top & Bottom 40 list for each year. In fact, John Walsh's annual Top 10 Fugitives tradition, which started in '000, is what inspired my annual Bottom 40 Films lists, which goes back to '000 and gets another list added the March after every newly ended year, after the award show circuit is over. Some backstory here. My father is a major cinema/movie viewer, and over the past several years, that has been transferred to me as well. I'm a customer service supervisor so after work, so the joy of seeing an excellent film in the evening is very important to me.
I want to see films that make me think, to appreciate the characterizations of actors and actresses who really enjoy what they do. This can be either in the classic era (Pre 1965), or in the current/contemporary era. However this means I want to see films with more depth then say the recent superhero films, whether it be an action, drama, war, etc. picture.
I'll list the films I have decided to give a 100% rating or a 10/10%. There's a lot of films that I would grade from 80-99% which I can also post if anyone is interested.
Rififi (1955): French heist/film noir from the Criterion Collection of global films. Directed by blacklisted director, Jules Dassin, this masterpiece is the most captivating film noir I have ever seen. Of special note is the jewelry store heist, filmed completely silent for around 30 minutes. Amazing acting all around, which makes me really want to see more of French 1950/1960s cinema.
12 Angry Men (1957): Masterpiece starring Henry Fonda, Lee J Cobb and 10 other actors portraying jurors where Fonda's character has to convince an element of reasonable doubt. No special effects, just raw talent of 12 characters from all walks of life. The fact that this was filmed mostly in one room just adds to how special this picture is. It's really good that a lot of young people get to see this in legal/law classes.
Aliens (1986): Second installment in the Aliens franchise, starring Sigourney Weaver. You don't need to see the other films (I didn't see any of the others) to understand and appreciate this. This is everything you could ask for and more out of a Sci-Fi/Action film, what you would expect from an intelligent and brutal race of aliens.
The Last Samurai (2003): What I consider to be the greatest contribution to cinema by Tom Cruise and Ken Watanabe. Cruise portrays a Civil War veteran who is sent over to Japan to train their army. He ends up captured by Japanese samurais and joins them in what I deem to be a redemption attempts for the Civil War atrocities. Some of the greatest and well put together battle scenes I've ever seen, and extensive character depth from all parties involved.
Ray (2004): Jamie Foxx stars as legendary musician Ray Charles in this biopic. Tragically, Ray died a few months before this film was released. This I feel captures the life, struggles and achievements of Ray that everyone will remember forever. I understand some liberties were taken from certain life events, but cinema does that all the time.
I'll just finish this post off by echoing the frustration that Saving Private Ryan lost the Best Picture award in the 1999 Academy Awards to Shakespeare in Love (I could go on and on about films).

Normally I don't like to double post, but this time it's because of the 3 attachments per post limit. Here's my Ancient Era collection.

And here's my Primeval Era collection. The time from the '890s to the '910s was the Primordial Era, but I don't have lists going back that far. The decade 192X up to about '927 is prototypical and subject to possible change down the line.
