Just wanted to state as forum admin I'm aware of the shooting of David Ortiz aka 'Big Papi', the retired Boston Red Sox player, in the Dominican Republic.
One of the alleged participants in the shooting of Ortiz, Luis Rivas-Clase is also wanted for attempted murder in Pennsylvania according to reports.
I will make a formal thread if information on his whereabouts is asked for here in the states, but this seems like a Dominican Republic manhunt at the moment.
All I can say is best wishes for a speedy recover for Big Papi. I grew up a Yankee fan rooting against him when he played, but I have tremendous amount of respect for him as a player and person.
And obviously, Ortiz's shooting culminates a lot of controversy over attacks, suspicious deaths sickness etc... in the D.R. the past few months, even in resorts and upscale resorts generally considered safe.
I think part of this is the media seeing one story and running with it to fit a narrative. That's not to say there can't be danger and perhaps the country's tourism industry needs to look into things and make improvements, but a lot of traveling to foreign countries is doing proper research and being aware of your surroundings.
Hopefully Ortiz recovers soon, and the good people of the D.R. in general get better press in the future.
